I have said it before, and I will say it again. I am not here to help Poe out. I am not here to be Poe's PR person. I joined the Angry Psychos in order to get and spread information, share rare and live recordings, and to chit-chat with people with whom I share a common interest. If I introduce someone to Poe's music, I am doing it as a favor to them, not to Poe. If I call a radio station to request Poe, it is because I would like to hear Poe on the radio, not because I am trying to move her up on any chart. I have been supportive of the efforts of my fellow APs in this area, and I will continue to be. If that is what they want to do, that is fine (and charming--let's hear it for Sandra, everyone). Especially lately, when the possibility of a tour has rested in the amount of sales Haunted generates. But I hate this assumption, that "we're here to help Poe out." Maybe I am the only AP who feels this way, but Poe makes her music for herself, and I listen to it for myself, and we don't owe each other anything. Exactly Andrew. So some teenyboppers "discover" Poe. Oh gawd. What are we allowing here? Music appreciation? A broadening of awareness? Exposure to differing music, and therefore circles of influence, cultures, priorities even perhaps? A maturing of the exact "children" that "mature" music fans keep claiming they wish would just "grow up already"? DA HORRAH! I thought the APs joined together to work as a unit to help support and promote and forward Poe. Or is this just any other fan club or mutual appreciation society? Here's CafePress's page describing the law concerning using Poe's likeness: http://www.cafepress.com/cp/home/help/parodylaw.jsp Simply put, here's the basic idea on how to avoid legal problems: 1) Don't use somebody else's photo. 2) If you took it, and/or you have permission from the photographer and the person who you took a picture of (GET POE'S PERMISSION), then you're good to go. 3) If you must use a picture you can't get permission for, then you have to incorporate it into a larger work of art (ie, a collage or whatnot). The point being that you're not plagurizing somebody else's work - you're creating new art. (but this option is risky.) Regarding black T-shirts: Black shirts have to be printed with a silk-screen transfer method using paints instead of dye or ink (like you can on a white shirt). As long as the image contrasts sharply from the black background and there isn't too much fine-edge detail (thin lines against the black shirt), it should come out fine. If it's cool with the logo's designer, and you're willing to front the cash for the printing setup, I don't see why AP's can't go out and get T-shirts made on their own. You'll need a much higher detail master of that image or it will come out jagged on the T-shirts (YUCK). First things first: look up T-shirt printing houses in your locality and get their requirements and costs for setup and per shirt. Some houses will take any kind of image, some require a particular format (Adobe Illustrator for example) and some houses require that you give them color separations (Red Yellow Blue Black/White images). My recommendation would be to gather a group of AP's who want a particular T, and then do a single run and ship the other shirts off to those that wanted them. Please recoup only your costs, and any floating cash should be split with the designer. I mean, AP's shouldn't be feeding off of each other. BTW- i did get confirmation that Q101 WKQX in Chicago IS playing Hey Pretty, i was very happy, its a big station (ever heard of mancow?) but i don't really care for most of the music on it anymore, but it was the first time i ever heard Poe so its all good. and in addition to 101.9 playing it. so i'm one happy chicagoland camper. :) have a great day everyone...its nice out here!!! :) -shari ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 16:56:31 EDT From: LadyMsThang@aol.com Subject: Re: they'd be cows today just like they think jennifer lopez is "full"...it's just a big ass people. though i applaud her ability and confidence to stand out and not give a damn what they think of her thighs and bootay...i mean, damn i'm proud of my huge hips and boobs! go hourglass figures...WOOO...(i really hate cheerleaders, i'm sorry for that outburst) ok i'm stepping off my soap-box...for now. marianne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 18:27:01 EDT From: BluesyBear@aol.com Subject: Re: they'd be cows today YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 19:23:39 EDT From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: just a little beauty rant In a message dated 4/7/2001 12:04:02 PM Eastern Daylight Time, LivTheMdns@aol.com writes: > Yes, Marilyn was a size 12 but > > that was by their standards back then.
