However, they all share a common function, mail FILTERING. You will have to look around your controls a little, and perhaps read some instructions. I use "Outlook Express" I find my mail filter settings under "Tools" Next select "Message Rules" which offers "Mail" "News" "Blocksenders" Jumping to "Blocksenders" is a good solution for individuals, but you should explore the possibilities under "Mail" I get so much Spam, that I set a flitter that only allows mail with a TO:me@whatever.com Address to reach my inbox. If it is not one the names that I have authorized for incoming mail, or rather if it does not contain in the TO: line one of my names, it goes to a separate folder that I made called A1 so that rule would read something similar to if the TO: line does NOT contain the names angry-psychos@smoe.org sp00k@poe.org etc.. send it to the A1 Folder. You may desire a more extreme approach. If you are familiar with the"HAHAHA" virus that keeps coming around, MANY of us are. Having grown tired of getting after my ISP for not filtering this KNOWN buggie, I set my mail filter to DELETE any mail with a subject line of "HAHAHA" at the ISP's mail server. If you get an attachment, it CANNOT hurt you, unless you open it. Even if you know the person that sent the attachment, you DON'T know if they have been hit with any of the many variations of the "Melissa" virus that takes control of their address book sending buggies automatically to family and friends. When I get an attachment, I save it by right clicking with my mouse, brining up a menu with the "save as" box. I save it to a folder called "Scan" then I go to http://www.antivirus.com and get a free virus scan using "Housecall" as a regular visitor, it is fast for me, and I only have it check the folder with the file in it. It will take a few minutes for first time users. When mail is forwarded, most mail programs give the user options there also. MANY people have mail settings that take mail that is "forwarded" and send it as an attachment. If you have people that are sending you text "forwards" and they arrive as attachments, explain to them, as I did to my aunt, we live in the paranoid zone, if you are going to forward that cookie recipe, change your settings to include the text of your forwards in your mail and not as a separate attachment. These little adjustments will make getting 40 AP mails in your next download, a more pleasant experience. sp00k etc ... #### ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 13:20:15 -0500 From: "devilbird" Subject: RE: USS Cole and Kid Rock If Kid Rock disgusts you, that's your opinion. Like I said, he's not my favorite artist, but I certainly don't have a problem with the Navy allowing his song to be played in defiance of the terrorists who attacked them. That they allowed it no doubt made many people angry, yes, and perhaps that's not what they want to be remembered for. But in the end, all it was was a "fuck you, we're still proud to be American" to the terrorists. Whether the killers heard it or not, the sailors on board the ship did. And after what they'd been through, as far as I'm concerned they could play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" if that's what they wanted. In my original post I said that now when I hear "American Badass" I think of the sailors of the USS Cole. Maybe to some of you that's degrading to them. But like most US civilians, I rarely have cause to think of those serving in the military at all. I live in safe, boring Indiana, miles away from any bases or other bastions of the armed forces. But now if I happen to come across this song, it makes me stop and remember those who have served and those who have died. And for that, despite the circumstances, I am a bit grateful. We take too much for granted here. devilbird ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 14:51:01 EDT From: KoriG@aol.com Subject: Re: Re:USS Cole and Kid Rock In a message dated 4/2/01 10:14:36 AM, mbarnett@loyno.edu writes: >I don't really think you can make the claim that Kid Rock is the most >intelligent man in that industry. I'll be attending the Kansas City show on the 20th for those that care. I'm betting that number is relatively small. I must agree that I find Kid Rock's music to be FAR out of my realm of enjoyment, but I honestly see no problem with them playing him during the re-launch of the USS Cole. It's their decision and I'm sure there was a lot of debate about it, so we can raise our eyebrows quizically if we want, but in the end, it's over with and saying they should have done something different now is not going to change it. It seems a bit silly to argue about the notion. Now, on to the meat of the email. I'm doing a joint research project on Tori Amos and Poe (topic: Females with impacting roles on the music industry) and was wondering if someone knew where I could get my hands on a physical copy of some of the poe music videos. Any time a compassion for the suffering is articulated in day to day terms, is not a waste. Your sentiments are shared by others, who might not have put it so eloquently. The fact is, that the personna Kid Rock portrays yields him the positive and negative responses--not much middle ground; but remember-- he laughs all the way to the bank on it. Way too many people take this man too seriously, and I agree-- they definitely miss the joke and worse, they miss the fact that he is actually very down to earth underneath. I know because I went to look up the lyrics to Hey Pretty for someone and I know I was on the site. I just checked, in fact a few seconds ago to see if it was still there, you're right, it's down again. It's changed though. At one point it had a message at the top. That's so sad, it was a great sad but i guess there's nothing I can do besides saying "Don't go Dean!" I've never been to any of the poe chats so I don't know if this is in my jurisdiction (mainly because I'm an AP too), but does this have something to do with the controversy between AP's and the power struggle?? Does it have to do with that one message that had somewhat of a nice stay on this mailing list about an apology and that they would be leaving?? If it's none of my business I won't say anymore, but it just saddens me that this is falling apart, that we're letting the Angry part in us overcome our senses. I guess it's true, can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being, whatever normal is. If the site is going down because of work problems and dedication that's understandable, especially for just one person. if Dean read this list he should know that he doens't have to feel obligated to update or nurse every little hungry AP with news and updates. Any Tori fans on this list might know of The Dent ( http://thedent.com ) which is operated by one person and he does a great job. In fact polishchick.com and thedent, in my opinion, are great sites and at the top of my list of daily checkups because they are so well-organized and have great dedication. I'm rambling. I'll stop now. My two cents even though it looks like $30. >on 4/2/01 3:19 PM, RICHARD I MIDGETTE at NachtRaven@prodigy.net wrote: > Pls check again. As for the asshole thing, maybe it's just that I don't know the real him, but I do know the side of him that he presents to the public, and maybe asshole is too strong a word. From what I know of him, he's a chauvinist who shows no respect for women, but then again, I don't know him personally or anything. Maybe it was wrong of me to pass judgment, but I'm just going on what I percieve as his personality, and i don't like it. I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I do find the whole "cat ears" thing to be a little on the edge (women are sex kittens!! oh no!!!) but a couple years back I wore cat ears for headbands, so... who am I to talk? Anyhow, off the subject. But keep in mind that the "pussycats" did have to learn to play their instruments before signing on to the movie (they went to band camp for a month and litteraly played 'till their hands bled.) so they are not clueless on the instruments. I have seen the previews and they pull off the instruments pretty well considering. But I am in total agreement of the Mandy More thing. - - Amber ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V6 #121 ***********************************
