NPR I have always been considered a "bull in a china closet". I have never "known my place." If I see something that needs to be done I blindly go in and DO it! Maybe it is 26 years as a firefighter/paramedic that I sometimes just REACT and TRY to do good. I have ZERO experience in the entertainment industry but I have an education and experience in marketing. I saw things that I could do that I felt would be helpful and promote communication among all of us. I was frustrated with the lack of Poe news so I made industry contacts and started reporting it, I am nothing special, any ONE of you could have done the same thing, but since I didn't see anyone else doing it I charged right in! I tried not to make it appear that I was anything special but I managed to piss off several people who have worked very hard for a long time. At first I blamed THEM!! But tonight when I found out that I have pissed off two of the people I care about the MOST and that even THEY thought I was doing this for some purpose OTHER then supporting Poe it made me think!!! In reality it knocked me on my ass!!! I know of NO way to prove that this is NOT about me then to withdraw from EVERYTHING I was doing. I am still an Angry Psycho and proud of it!!! But I am humbled and I was NOT trying to come off the way I guess I have! To the two I offended tonight you KNOW that I care for you both!! Poe NEEDS you two. There are some amazing talents you both have. To the one who said you cannot work for or with me I am so sorry, I really wish I had seen that coming so I could have made amends sooner. I would have sent this to you privately, but you know why I could not. I will be watching with great interest with the rest of you as Poe begins the tour and kicks off the video. These will be the best years in our ladies life and I just wanted to be a part of it like we ALL do! For a while I think it best that I back off and listen instead of flapping my big mouth. Again to the ones I KNOW that I have offended and to those I offended without even KNOWING about it I am sorry. I will be quiet now. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 12:18:59 -0000 From: "monkeygrrl66 _" Subject: Re: NPR Björk >---Speaking of Bjvrk(hey it worked!), I just saw >"Dancer in the Dark" was that not the best film?! if anyone hasn't seen this, hurry and go rent it now! it'll probably be one of those movies that you either absolutely love or think it's the worst thing ever put on screen. bjvrk's facial expressions, hand gestures, and obviously her acting was amazing. the final scene is quite possibly the most violent scene i've ever viewed - there is no guns, blood, or the like, but it was just very disturbing (i won't ruin it if you decide to see it). monkeygrrl _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 09:16:24 -0500 From: Erik Schalburg Subject: RE: virus warning from Ajax Talos! Hey all... Long time Poe fan, but I'm new to the list...I *finally* recently got the new cd...wow, I can't tell you how excited I was when I found out that another Poe cd was finally out!!! I love it, of course. It's great to hear that spine-tingling voice again... And I was even more excited when I heard "Hey Pretty" on the radio before I got a chance to buy the cd...it's getting pretty decent airplay on WHFS 99.1 in Baltimore. (I'm from the VA/MD/DC area). I didn't know it was Poe when the song came on...but of course knew it was Poe as soon as it got into it, if you know what I mean. :-) Literally sent chills right up the back of my neck the first time I heard her sing that chorus... ;-) ANYWAY...like I said, I just signed up on this list & am trying to wade thru all the emails I'm getting now, so I'll try to cram my responses all into one email... :-) << 1. Who are you? - -Mel- 2. Where you're from? Northern Virginia...but I spend lots of time in DC & the Baltimore/Anapolis region. 3. How old you are? 25 4. Where you first heard Poe? Wow...I forget...when did Angry Johnny hit the radio?? I got into Poe *right* when that came out...was that when I was still in college? lol...I think so. :-) 5. What other musicians do you listen to? Too many to list... ;-) I'll get to some "recommendations" in a bit... ;-) 6. Any other interesting information you wish to share? Hmmm. Sure, but this email is already getting too long...lol... How about my job. I'm a riding instructor/therapeutic riding instructor (I teach to people with disabilities.) I also do promotions for several bands. Okay!!! Now to respond to the music recommendations thread... ;-) Wow, I've got a ton to contribute as well. But I'll keep it to my top 3 favorites for now. - -Dovetail Joint. www.dovetailjoint.com GREAT band. - -LAUGHING COLORS. www.laughingcolors.com PHENOMENAL band...one of the BEST lives shows I've ever seen, and also one of the best guitarists I have ever seen. They've got it all...each member is hugely talented...the lyrics are intelligent, the music rocks, the live show is amazing...I just can't say enough good things about this band. :-) Some good songs to check out-Wrinkle, Samhouse, Big One Small One, and War on Drugs. (the last one is HILARIOUS!!!) LC plays all the time in the MD/VA region...as well as shows at least once a month in DE & Philly...they play the Grape St. Pub in Manayunk, outside of Philly, next friday. - -No Soap Radio. www.nosoapradio.net Fantastic up & coming band from NJ, another great live band with a fantastic sound. They're playing in NYC on saturday, and have a few other NJ shows lined up in the next couple months. If anyone checks out those bands, definitely let them know mel sent ya, if you go to the site or a show... ;-) And definitely let me know what you think if you get a chance to check them out. LC plays 2-3 times a week & I'm at a lot of their shows, so if anyone ever goes to one (in Philly, or MD/DC/VA), let me know & I'd love to say hi & meet some other Poe fans!!! :-) Okay. NPR Dan, I just wanted to say that I hope you continue to be the best AP you can possibly be... I don't know who you upset or how, but you were just doing what the rest of us haven't, and that's trying to pull the Angry Psychos together. The Angry Psychos as a whole have always been a dysfunctional family. As I've explained in prior messages to you personally, ever since I became a member in late 1996, there have been power struggles and arguments within the ranks. There are people who DO, and there are people that complain because others DO. There are people that do an excellent job at what they do, and there are people like me who try our best but just don't have the talent to make things go the best possible way. To the rest of the Angry Psychos, (This particular portion of this post was written a sort time ago, but I feel it needs to be addressed with all of you and no longer the few it was addressed to to begin with.) In 1997, I was a Poe fan... A small group of incredibly cool people took me on a voyage that I will never forget. My first AP trip with the fine folks from the Greater Buffalo area literally changed my life. I finally felt family in my life.... then things started to fall apart. The Vegas psychos were "better" than the Richmond/DC psychos, the APs who had met were "better" than the ones who had joined through our recruiting efforts, the longer you were on the list, the more elite you were.... It was all a crock of shit. At the time of the Rochester show, I was still the happy go lucky ej@poe.org. A lot changed after that. One night after I totally went off in the chatroom, I became eXej, the cruel and sometimes incredibly blunt individual trying to subtlely bring the angry psychos around to the fact that they were starting to make asses out of themselves. For a period of time after that, I still felt the APs at least had a designated figurehead in Jarrod Kniff, but Jarrod sat back and let everything happen around him. What I want to know is, why does a group of fans, a group of people I once considered my family, need to have a figurehead at all? Yes, I admit at times I've wanted to do things and have some credit given to me for it. I even had plans to wrest the reins of Angry-Psychos dot com at one point to improve it... and I had plenty of info to update it with, but then I went to Westlake and saw more powertrips taking place in person, and decided... none of them gave a shit about the Angry Psychos.... Instead of APs it was ME ME ME.... I WANNA, MINE.... When Poe has to take almost half an hour to publically respond to Angry Psycho mudslinging when it's supposed to be a party, that really upsets me. It's not anything new, but I miss what the Angry Psychos used to be. I'm sending this email to you select few, because I know you all care about both Poe and her fans... and not taking credit for her music, her presence, her state of mind, or her being.... I swear sooner or later one of the psychos is going to take credit for the whole second album... I'm just waiting for the post.... Anyway, I'm definitely open to any ideas you folks have as far as getting the family back together... we may have always been dysfunctional, but now it's outright brutal, and I don't feel I want to be a part of a group that just bickers constantly. Dan, I sincerely hope that you and those you have upset can work out your differences and I also hope that one day the Angry Psychos can be the prominent FANS that we once were... If you've ever heard Natalie Imbruglia's Torn, that was an Ednaswap song before she took it and molested it. : ( Also, if you're into harder girl music, I'll post sound clips of my band, the Glitter Junkies on our website and send the link on over to you all : ) - - Amber ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 22:57:04 EST From: JustSpiffy@aol.com Subject: Ednaswap Oh hell yes! I heard of Ednaswap after torn came out (th natalie version) and I liked the lyrics but thought it was too poppy. I found a vinyl copy of the Ednaswap album and decided to check them out, hoping that their torn would be a little more, emotional. God taht song makes me cry. I love Ednaswap now :-) Aoibhinn ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 23:09:33 EST From: BUDave18@aol.com Subject: Re: Josie, Jill Sobule, and MD Local Music In a message dated 3/31/01 11:53:00 AM, Tarotfeather@aol.com writes: << Has anyone here ever heard of Ednaswap? Go figure. But then I did hear there's a shortage of recruits lately, in just about all the military branches, so maybe they're just trying a new hook. Along similar lines, I thought this was interesting. When the USS Cole was shipping out of the harbor after it was somewhat stabilized following the bombing attack, the commanding officer ordered a medley of patriotic tunes to be played as the crew stood at attention. They began with the Star Spangled Banner and followed it with "American Badass" by Kid Rock. The commanding officer had a fit, but his second allowed the song to play on. Now...personally I'm not keen on Kid Rock or that song, but I have to say, every time I hear it, I think of the USS Cole and the sailors who died. Funny how things like that happen. devilbird ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 23:55:49 -0600 From: "Dawn~Zigana~" Subject: NPR Re: Godsmack!!! hey now devilbird... watch what you say about some artists out there... you never know when you are gonna run into a friend of theirs... or email one of em I should say... ;) ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V6 #116 ***********************************
