I have to say that from the names you guys put that I recognized, it sounds like you all have very good taste in music... I also want to say that if you're looking for some rare music, that's kind of pleasing yet fun (and this band that I'm talking about is not that well known, and I'm not really sure how you might categorize them) Hater is a good listen... it features Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron (former members of Soundgarden) and it also has the brother of Andrew Wood (late lead singer of Mother Love Bone)... aside from who the band members are, they really rock... Also, if you're from the Bakersfield, CA area (or maybe even Seattle) you might've heard of a band called Vendetta Red (not popular around here, but I have one of their demos that they gave me at a concert about 2 years ago when they played with a band called Only You and another band of my friend's called Linus...) Their not bad... \ There's a whole bunch more, but you guys would all be 90 before I finished listing them... and check out Supersuckers, too... well, that's about it... \ *zoe* ===== If you knew now what you'll know in 20 years, then there's no point to life. Plus there's a lot of Happy Hardcore kind of stuff that I like but I don't know the names of most of the artists... (it's hard to get a happy hardcore show going up here in Seattle... everyone wants to listen to the more mellow stuff like trance or jungle, and sometimes they'll mix it up with a little drum n bass or house... happy hardcore is VERY rare up here...) Oh and if you want to hear some good DJs, the ones I've heard and liked are DJ Keoki (he's one of the more popular, some of you may have heard of him), DJ Panda, and a few others that aren't that big around here or anywhere else... if you'd like to know more about them, then feel free to contact me... \ Enjoy your music experiences! *zoe* ===== If you knew now what you'll know in 20 years, then there's no point to life. Then buy the Numb cd (which is an import definitely worth the price), if only for "Tribute to Monk & Canatella" (which is on the regular Sour Times single as is "Numbed in Moscow" but not on Glory Times). "Tribute..." is an 11-minute jazz freefall/remix of Numb, cool as hell. About Lamb: New album coming out later this year as announced on their official website, cottonwool.com. Just received a tape of 4 videos of theirs: B Line, God Bless, Cottonwool and *Gasp* GORECKI! Cool beans, ya. Lou has done a few non-Lamb tracks, one with A Guy Called Gerald called "Humanity" which isn't all that great in relation to her Lamb work. However, the one she did with Pale 3 (a collab. of I forget who, all of whom worked together to score a German film by Tom Tywker called in English "The Princess and the Warrior" (he of Run Lola Run fame)) called "Escape" with some parenthetical subtitle that escapes me for the nonce. It's my favorite non-Lamb track that she's done. Also, try to find a Lamb non-album track called "Ha ha ha". "You've heard of Daft Punk. Well, this is daft jazz," she says in way of introduction, and she's not wrong! Massive Attack are busy working on their new album too, and Liz Fraser the Immaculate has already put down some vocals for 3-4 tracks. Definitely check her out, both in and out of the Cocteau Twins. She's on Craig Armstrong's (who was the orchestral arranger on MA's 2nd album) The Space Between Us on the gorgeous ballad, "This Love", which I like to think of as a warmup to her work on "Teardrop." She also appears on the Future Sound of London's Paths 1-7: Lifeforms EP (Not to be confused with the double album Lifeforms), which is ambient dance with airy pulsating dance rhythms with chopped up weirded out Liz-sounds floating in the aether. More Liz on This Mortal Coil's first album, It'll End in Tears. Two shorties-but-beauties. She's supposed to have a solo album coming out, but was dissatisfied with the creative direction and stopped work thusfar. Tricky: the more albums he makes, the less you have of his muse/collaborator, Martina. Stick with Maxinquaye. Someone mentioned Andrea Parker: she actually has two albums, one a DJ mix set called DJ Kicks (which is actually a whole series put out by the label Stud!o K7), and her Kiss My Arp album, on which she sings on about 4 tracks (5 if you count the ADORABLE "Sneeze"). She's playing Coachella this year, which is (along with Plaid (but they're a different kettle of fish)) making it hard for me to not want to go. Sorry if I didn't answer your e-mail personally, but I had a lot to go through! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2001 11:26:04 EST From: Kluless615@aol.com Subject: Josie, Jill Sobule, and MD Local Music >Now, call me a dork (hell, call me a dork all you want - I am a dork), but I >am actually digging the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack. >Lol! Hey, it is chick music! Even if Josie isn't a real band ; ) Actually, I don't know about the soundtrack, but in the movie, the voice of Josie singing is actually that of Kay Hanley, former singer of Letters to Cleo (who, by the way kick ass!) Also, on the subject of chick music, and especially lesbian-ish music, suprisingly, I don't think I've seen anyone mention Jill Sobule yet. I could have missed it, but the self-titled album with "Supermodel" and of course "I Kissed a Girl" is actually quite good, in my humble opinion. Alright, back to work, ~Shannon~ P.S.- Glad to see the local music mentions (Mary Prankster) even though she isn't on our label anymore. Ah well, shameless plug time, check out Fowl Records @ www.fowl.com for some more awesome local bands in the MD/DC/VA area. Mary used to be on Fowl, but the only bands we have with female singers right now are Rebel Amish Radio and Great Mutant Skywheel. Both of them have a male and female singer. Some of the others are good even without chicks. Laughing Colors is fucking awesome. Check 'em out if you've got some spare time... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2001 10:29:02 -0600 From: "Michael" Subject: NPR - SERVER Hey, for those of you who got disconnected from my server last night, the cable company abruptly shut down our hub last night for upgrades. OVER 200 bands that have chats on Dalnet are listed, and you may join in with a click. If your OTHER favorite bands are NOT listed, you might consider becoming the founder of a chat for your OTHER favorite bands. If you want something added to this list, please let me know. I am almost certain that the AP's continue to be on the cutting edge as one of the first to employ this IRC URL scheme. sp00k etc ... And I like Shivaree too (esp. "I Don't Care"). I'd also recommend the Avengers, Emily Remler, & Beth Orton. I recently checked out some Sneaker Pimps songs on Napster. It hadn't occurred to me that they might have had OTHER songs besides "6 Underground". The ones I heard I would probably buy if I happened upon the album. Try "Low Place Like Home".
