Ugh, this is ridiculous. Come on, I was picked for most of my school life. In middle school, I had pretty much no friends. So yeah, it sucked, but come on, things get better as people mature and you move on. I grew up and they grew up, and that was the end of that. My life right now is going great, I have lots of great friends, and I didn't get that way by shooting all the people who used to make fun of me. How is this all of a sudden a remedy? I don't get it. I wish there was something that could be done to stop this outbreak of ridiculous behavior all of a sudden. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2001 22:54:45 -0800 From: "Lee Wang 444" Subject: NPR: Jesus in Hell Christ went down to Hell -- to do what? The kids have seen how much attention they could get for shooting up their school and they go for it. And as much as none of them want to admit it, the parents are usually somewhat at fault. It's not the music, it's not the movies, it's not TV. It might be partly the news media's fault, it has to be some of the parent's fault. I don't want to blame the schools because even when I was in school, the jocks never got into trouble for picking on (that's the nice way to say it) their "lower" classmates, the teachers just didn't seem to care. And one last thing, I still don't understand how school uniforms would help anything, I mean your still going to have that one kid, or group of kids, that is going to be picked on, and your still going to have that one kid that decides to shoot up his school, the only problem he's going to have then is how to pick out his targets in the sea of uniforms. I think that's enough for now. - ---Jobe Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! There were labels but it was easy to break thru them if you wanted. When there are less people there can usually be less friction. I hate to make this into a political discussion, but... easily accessible and powerful GUNS happened to a good old fight after school. My life in middle school was pure hell (it didn't help that I was clinically depressed and undiagnosed...) and many a time I felt like killing myself or others... If I had had to choose, though, I probably would've killed myself before I'd hurt the others, no matter how much they hurt me... But I know for sure that someone would've died if I'd had access to a gun. So I'm grateful I didn't. "Guns don't kill people. They just make it a lot easier." > What ever > happened to a good old fight after school huh? I come from a family with a history of mental illness, and my sister was diagnosed bi-polar at age 16. Age 16? of course she's depressed and moody! she's 16! But before she was in tharapy even ONE MONTH, they had her popping pills left and right. I always thought the prudent thing would be to see if they could work things out themselves. Now, of course, she's a wreck if she doesn't take her medication (she's almost 22 now) sorry for the rant... I hope that girl's alright :-) Aoibhinn ~*~ERIN~*~ "Line me up in single file, with all your grievances..." If the news didn't glorify (and yes, I think that's the best word for it) Columbine so much, this wouldn't be such a big deal and I'm willing to bet that at least 3/4 of the school shootings that have taken place in the past two years wouldn't have taken place at all. Personally, my school has had 5 bomb threats in the past month and a half, and I strongly believe that there were so many repeats because they all saw how much attention was paid to the irst on. Cops and K-9 units were brought in and there was quite a bit of talk about closing school, so everyone thought that it was a good way to get out of class. It's precisely this reason that so many shootings take place. Screw the music, screw the movies, screw the clothes...that has nothing to do with it. If you're being picked on, don't scare the crap out of everyone else, get some help. Just thought I'd share. Lily P.S. I know personally uniforms don't help because the people are the same people they were without the uniforms, just without different clothing and a little poorer. It also creates the feeling that the freedom of expression is gone and could actually be a little more detrimental than helpful. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2001 22:44:52 -0500 From: "Cygnus" Subject: Rate The Music Has anyone visited http://www.RateTheMusic.com ?
