It was ALL of our hopes that AOL and DalNet could play nice. In both my nwinfo.net account and my AOL account little of the volume of spam I recieve is from AOL, most is from hotmail, yahoo, and off shore ISPs. I notice that THEY were not banned. This morning I was asked by Fishkin if the AOL ban was lifted. It was not felt that Poe would have to reconfigure her Internet setup to placate a service that would ban her from using a chat named in her name! I had to tell him that it was NOT lifted yet. And NOW we find out it was lifted YESTERDAY!!!! I sure wish you could have let us know then! I will try VERY hard to contact Poe tomarrow, I will also call Paul and Jeff tomarrow and see if they can contact her. If we can she will be there. She does follow the list, so hopefully she will know that DalNet will graciously allow Poe into her own chat room. OBVIOUSLY, once AGAIN, you have not read what Dal Net was complaing about, Nope just come in here shooting off your mouth some more... IT is NOT about E Mail SPAM it is about people coming into #poe and the other 49,999 channels to ADVERTISE PORN and then leave. Most of these " Drive bys" were committed by AOL userers, THIEFS most likely, not legitimate USERS. NOBODY wants people flooding the chat channel with ADVERTISING, Do you MIND? DALnet, on the other hand, welcomes them so long as the spammers can be kept in check. For the most part DALnet is the most open IRC network out there that actual still maintains some degree of control over spammers and other crap. ultimately it's chat, not e-mail, as sp00k originally said. i'm sure a bit down in my e-mail sp00k will be replying to this himself, but I wanted to clear it up again just to make sure it's crystal. > Stop taking this personal!!! It is NOT about YOU! Stop flaming me. I no > longer CARE about your opinions, though you are welcome to them! > > I am finished with discussing ANYTHING with you that is not directly Poe > related. PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE!!!! ultimately what it comes down to is both sides in this little whatever have been taking it too personally. and I'm only clarifying this again because I do not like seeing DALnet attacked or IRC viewed as a dinosaur (many other "modern" chat sites are based on IRC servers ultimately, they've just idiot-proofed the client side). I don't own stock in them (nobody does, and they'd loose money anyway, it's a free service put together by volunteers) but I've used them for quite some time because they are better than most of the alternatives in the straight IRC arena, and I don't like advertisements or restrictions so I dislike the chats on the portal sites. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 12:06:11 EST From: BluesyBear@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: nelly furtado no offense but I think the "song" I'm like a bird is great...but her voice really gets on my last nerve. We can bring these ideas to Atlantic and see if they are really going to listen to us. If not, well, we keep on as we have been, no problem ;) So now how do we get there...first we need some viable, original ideas. We already know that Poe will meet with us when possible, so let's try to get other stuff going. She did say she would do another offline Q&A with us like she did in the past. That answering message she has on p-o-e.com is good (unfortunately there's never been a new message after Christmas.) AP pie fights instead of flame wars. Stuff like that. So Dean has graciously set up a suggestion box. apsuggest@polishchick.com You can start mailing it now with ideas. Make them creative, just don't spam it. After the weekend some ideas will hopefully be thrown at Atlantic, and then we can have a better idea of what they are open to. If you want to contribue anonymously, I belive Dean's going to post a followup with a URL where you can just submit ideas without an e-mail address. Naturally, since this is for us, this shouldn't be posted on p-o-e.com..etc...it won't be a news item on polishchick.com either. However, this isn't a box for this mailing list. The people involved in this have no control over what goes on the list, so posting suggestions for moderating it or whatever will not help. Now I *know* you guys have great ideas for interacting with Poe...let's hear 'em ::) - --Michele Open for trades! http://trade.shelle.org/ Got promos, bootlegs, or MP3s of your favorite artist?
