OK, for those of you who have had problems connecting to chat, I have scoured the net and found a F R E E BBS that should be of interest to all AP's ... one of the first things I was greeted with was the system "Graffiti Wall" and look what was on it " 3yo yo yo its p0e2000 baby ...heeh hey everybody..have fun im mud.. gimiie a a " If you enter chat through this BBS, that is the address Dal Net will use to identify you, so it won't matter if you are on AOL or not. You may enter this site two ways, via the web, and via the "telent" protocal. If you enter via the web you will need Java, if you have a recent netscape or msie you are fine. Go to http://www.realmofmirage.com/ at the top of the menu you will see "new user sign up" Don't lie on this one, it could hurt you later http://shadow.cyberwar.com/signup/supform/ after you submit your signup form, I want you to go the the "Expert Version" http://www.realmofmirage.com/telnet.htm and hit the silver button that says "Activate Expert Mode" it will launch a Java "telnet" client that will let you log on to the BBS, with your newly created account. for those of you familiar with the "telnet" protocal or without Java, you can do the same thing by just clicking here telnet://bbs.cyberwar.com " Find OnLine Gaming, Internet, and Chat at Mirage " It will work better with Net Term http://starbase.neosoft.com/~zkrr01/html/downloads.html The chat from the web page menu does NOT connect to IRC you MUST either telnet, or use the Java telnet , to connect to the BBS to get to IRC. This is a very BUSY BBS that is FREE, I feel lucky to have found this GEM!!! After you have sucessfuly established an account, and are logged onto the BBS, select option letter " I " as in " Internet " and that will give you the internet menu. Next selcet the letter " I " again, for "Internet Relay Chat" You will have to edit the default values by changing the server they use to "irc.dal.net" port 7000 , and your personal info, after your values are correct, hit the connect option. I have had mixed results getting connect, but it DOES work. Once connected to irc.dal.net just type /join #poe Keep in mind your Nick Name MUST be unique as people own individual names on Dal Net so be CREATIVE if you run into a Nick Name conflict after you log on type /nick AnewAPname2000 (for example) I have explained the situation with Dal Net / AOL with the BBS Sysop, and am waiting to hear a reply on the status of his/her IRC server capabilities.... My adivce is to establish an account, once you have done that, and had a look around and tried things out, get back to me if you have questions. The windows version of telnet, of course, sux, so this is my favorite for some time, there are others that are better, but this is user friendly and industry respected Net Term http://starbase.neosoft.com/~zkrr01/html/downloads.html For some of you this may all be new and confusing, but for those not familiar with the world of BBS's you are about to enter a very entertaining world. Then use that for the dial-up connection and go to the chat using only your browser. If you want, once you have the ISP installed, you can set up a secondary AOL dial-up location (from the sign-on screen) with "connect using an ISP/LAN connection" instead of AOL dial-up numbers. This will allow you to connect using the ISP and then log on to AOL. You can get into the chat from AOL this way since it will show the ISP instead of AOL. If you try this and like it (in spite of the damned ad banner that goes with a free ISP) then you can go to keyword "billing" in your AOL and change your account to BYOA (Bring Your Own Access). This gives you unlimited AOL access for $9.95 a month. Remember this if/when you get DSL or Cable and want to keep your AOL account too...also great when you go off to school and get on a nice, speedy university LAN. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 16:26:36 -0600 From: "Stephen LeFain" Subject: Houston, we have rotation... I did not know there were a dozen solutions that did not call for any of the 6 million AOL users to use DalNet without getting a new ISP or having to be a Net guru! Could you please post a couple of them to the list? Several could use them! The only ones I have seen have called for the AOL users to get another service provider. I agree with you that AOL sucks!!! There is no need to belabor that point. We ALL know THAT!!! But for MANY various reasons there are MILLIONS that choose to use the service. I simply did not want to see them locked out of #Poe chat on poe.org!!! Now that you can post the work around we can use them!! Thank you. PLEASE notice that I said I was going to ask YOU if YOU had any ideas on what could be done!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 22:13:49 EST From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: Video converting software In a message dated 3/8/2001 9:42:23 PM Eastern Standard Time, stephen@xiveren.com writes: > Windows Media Encoder: > > Get it at www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia. I have been told by someone I respect a LOT that my response to you came off as harsh. I assure you that I do not mean it to. I am genuinely concerned that as many Poe fans, current and future APs get to participate in #poe chat. I have strong allegiance to that chat and simply am trying to find a work around. I have been around the Internet for a long time, but as I have said before I have never cared for IRC so I don't know it well. You say there are workarounds without having to change providers, you DO know IRC, I really meant it when I asked if you could post some suggestions for folks that are on AOL and for whatever reason want to stay there without adding multiple ISPs. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 21:30:37 -0600 From: "phoenyx" Subject: Re: Video converting software Windows Movie Maker is a component to Windows ME (Millenium Edition) designed for basic digital video editing. Allowing you to create cuts, subtitles, etc. The Windows Media Encoder is for encoding (from a live feed or a tape via a video-in) and format conversion of both video and audio. The Encoder is part of Movie Maker but available on it's own as well. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; ; Sent: Thursday, March 08, 2001 9:13 PM Subject: Re: Video converting software > > In a message dated 3/8/2001 9:42:23 PM Eastern Standard Time, > stephen@xiveren.com writes: > > > > Windows Media Encoder: > > > > Get it at www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia. To be honest, I cannot put into words how STUNNED I am that AOL acts the way it does, I don't say that to bash AOL, I say it because I am a customer of Time Warner, and because I have held an AOL account for testing purposes, compared to my former independent ISP http://frontiernet.net a Globex communicatins company or some such crap, Time Warner has been like 10 helpers to 1 for whatever I need, it is instant. I have been hopeful that this problem between AOL and Dal Net will clear quickly, and still think it will be. I posted info earliler today on how to join a Free BBS that will allow AOL users to join chat without revealing the fact that AOL is there ISP. See my post on the "ROCKING BBS" It is not as complicated as it looks in print. I always advise people to take some chances and PUSH the damn buttons, what are you going to hurt? The BBS I posted about earlier would be a good place to visit for ANY AP, I do know that Zamponohead is an AOL user and he was in chat just a bit earlier using the BBS. Im going to get a cold soda see you all in chat in a few. That's what I always use when my isp goes down, and it's not banned from dalnet. Just a thought. I sent an e-mail to one of St. Louis' most POE-friendly radio stations... asking them if they could and would be playing "Hey Pretty"... We have another victory to add to our list... Here is the positive response from the station 93.3 (KNSX - St. Louis): - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gee Tony, Are you on Poe's payrole? You should be! I do believe I will put the song in this week. It is getting a "pretty" good buzz going nationally. Thanks for being such a passionate listener. RC@93.3 - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This station has always done an awesome job supporting POE. A few months back, they played "Walk the Walk" all the time. And, a couple of years ago, they even played POE's song "Today", from the "Great Expectations" soundtrack. So, yeah, I have a good feeling they will give "Hey Pretty" the airplay justice that it deserves. ************************************************************ Now, there is one other station in St. Louis that could use some encouragement from the Angry-Psychos. The station is 105.7 - The Point (KPNT). I have only heard them play "Hey Pretty" once. At their website, they don't have an area for specific song requests. Their site says to e-mail a request to whatever DJ is on-the-air at that time. I guess the best bet would be for everyone to just pick a DJ, where the page says "Point Contact Listing", and then work the PsYcHo magic... Here is the direct link: http://www.kpnt.com/contents.infocenter.contacts.htm E-mail me with any questions... aNgrY-pSycHos rule! - -Tony Cusumano ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V6 #90 **********************************
