I, though a newbie, have loved her music since I first heard Angry Johnny and Trigger Happy Jack on KROQ. I joined the list to be part of the AP community, not the Terrified Virgins or Haunted Meringues. Though i understand that one group will not be "better" than the other, I still feel that it would be a little alienating. Maybe I'm being too sensitive. I want to be part of this community, not a minorty within it. I understand the feelings of "We've been here for Poe since the beginning." Once again, maybe I am being too sensitive. I don't know much about Poe. I know that I like her music a lot (love that song Control), and I also know that she's balls hot. I mean really hot. As the list's resident expert on downtempo music, mght I then suggest Archive's "Londinium" which although available only as an import is almost worth it and has the sultry incredibly sultry female lead and I would say Mono done right: that is, glossier production than Portishead. That is if you haven't already. Also very relaxing is Alpha's "ComeFromHeaven," which has a mix of sexay female vox and really soulful male vox. Andrea Parker's "Kiss my Arp" is very dark, mixes some skittering, fractured beats with really deep bass and electro. If you like Massive Attack's "Protection" and "Mezzanine", you'll like Craig Armstrong's "The Space Between Us"; he is/was MA's string composer, and the immaculate Liz Fraser stars on an utterly beautiful track. Dubstar is great ear candy, though only the song "Stars" is triphopish; it's mostly dancepop, but some of the most luscious music that I've ever heard. Of course Lamb, which people call "Portishead meets drumandbass". No way I can describe it; if you don't have it already, get both albums! Boards of Canada are exceptional, and everyone on this list should get "Music has the right to children". More fractured beats, but it's almost like ambient hip hop, hip hop beats supporting a wispy synthladen atmosphere, with slight a slighltly cheeky '70s era aesthetic, an aesthetic which reminds me of Air, but these guys are tons better. 'hello' and 'the haunted' are two totally different feelings, moods.... this would also just let us know where different people stand on poe. maybe they really like the haunting voices, the between track stuff on 'the haunted' and that's all they've heard of hers. then they get 'hello' and just get songs. i dunno, maybe i'm being stupid, but i think it's just something for fun and you're taking it a little too far. this isn't like social classification or anything. we're not splitting people into upper and lower class..... it's just for fun.... - --- Dan98908@aol.com wrote: > Do we need a special name for new APs?? It's not really a big deal either way, but the only ones that really make a difference are the regional groups, because when Poe finally goes on tour, it will be up to us to unite at the shows and show everyone why the APs are the best fans an artist could want. Just remember that Poe needs us TOGETHER as a group to help her, she doesn't need us split amongst ourselves over stupid shit. - ---Jobe Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Napster is an incredible way to discover bands that have otherwise been overlooked. Indie labels are beginning to thrive and I think their support throughout all this Napster shut down crap could really boost the impression of file sharing sites. We are finding the radio obsolete. The internet generation has begun to weed out mind numbing music. We are sharing with each other bands that have started changing the way we look at music. We are finding bands on our own instead of buying whatever album Rolling Stone tells us to buy. We are evolving, becoming die hard fans of music that enriches our lives. We are biting the hand that has fed us rotten meat over and over again, freeing ourselves to grow, and live without their narrowed vision. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what I think scares them most of all. A little angry, Rick ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V6 #66 **********************************
