Been in the Thurs AP chat twice & ad-hoc once. I enjoy it but . . . 3) I'm seriously time challenged. I'm a wannabe "support her success and do whatever they can to further her" - excuses a mile long like 3 kids under 7, sole income for feeding, clothing etc. The last concert I was at was Sting opened by Vinx long ago - I don't get out much. Now, I live in the backwoods of Central VA, so my choices to push POE on the radio are limited. I feel like I'm at best a side-lines player for this type. I have e-mailed my local radio, not seen a response yet. My 4-year old (Lauren) usually asks me to turn Haunted off 'cause she thinks it sounds scary - usually a different track works. AND each time we get to it, she asks me what a virgin is. My 6 year-old son always asks 'who said that?' to the spoken bits & the 2 year old is never in my car 'cause I hate moving the damn car seat so I always take the wife's car when taking her & leave Haunted in mine. BTW - I buddy list in all the AP AOL'ers that I see, including you. I'm svisokay & always welcome an IM & when I'm at my desk I at lease respond with an 'I'm in the middle of . . . ' or better, so please feel free to add me as an AP Buddy & pop a hello. As a habit I don't initate IM's unless the other side has invited or IM'ed my way at least once. SteVe p.s. I'm also a time-challenged viv-head. p.p.s I've booked marked the VH1 thing and will do that before bed tonite. I'm going to be as rabid, at least during crunch time, as a guy with a puking 2 year old can be. p.p.p.s. Used to take my trash to the dump each week 'till 'bout 6 months ago & that seemed to always be a date for Lauren & I ans our theme album for the dump run was Garbage V2. p.p.p.s. Why do I support Poe? 1. Poe supports local charity http://www.laff.org ("Rise N Shine") 2. When "Park Police" tell everybody to go home @ 9PM because the park is closed during the meet and greet after her show, Poe invites the MOB of waiting AP's to come back to the hotel with her. 3. "Hello" has been called by some "The Internet Anthem" . As a boy I dreamed of a machine that would give answers to all the questions that already have them, as a teen with the military, I got a hint that the dream would come true, as an adult, Poe captured my attention as she belted out the truth while others still called the internet a fad. 4. If you don't know already, I have come to the conclusion that the entire world is psycho, those to be feared most claim to be normal. 5. "Hello and "Haunted" have the rare quality of being CD's I can put in the player, and listen to from start to finish, as if to change CD's half way through would be a sin. Another that comes to mind is Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream" 6. The net has brought us all together, we are to Poe what the Dead Heads were to the Greatful Dead. Promoting Poe increases our numbers, and IF there is a tour you will find it is much more fun going to a show with a group of 40 than it is a group of 4.... 7. As a novice computer user, I learn by doing. Supporting Poe offers me opportunities to expand my knowledge of how to use the internet as a promotional tool, how to build web pages, etc... these skills are transferable to other interests that I have. 8. Lets see its been about 4 years for Poe without cash flow from music I would guess, I can't imagine she can do this stuff for free, I would certainly be in favor of her having a LONG stay in music, I'm guessing she is going to want to make some money at this... 9. Poe has her foot in the water all over the media market, i.e. the video game, modeling, and who knows what, I hardly get the impressoin she wants to be a musical wallflower, I hope she can score wherever she tries, gains millions of fans and a dollar for each one... 10. People support all kinds of things such as sports, television shows, public figures, political parties, nations... I support Poe. 11. Mark takes 10 years to crank out a book, Poe takes 5 ? to make a CD, the two works are great alone, but appreciated more as one, has anybody else EVER done that for your head? 12. I could go on with this list, but as you might see, it is a two way street, a selfish thing, if I want to assure a future supply of Poe, I need to get more people hooked... the more people I work on getting hooked, the more I learn about computing... 13. Lets NOT pick on the teeney boppers, who wasn't one? Who doesn't recall the embarassing transiton from the bubble gum to the "cool station" hey wait a minute, lots of people of all ages listen to that stuff, and dancing is very popular... maybe not with me, just cuz I dont like liver, I wont spoil it for those that do. 14. I write to any station that any AP posts about, why not? Maybe it won't get Poe played on that station, but it stirs up thoughts, and becomes the topic of conversations @ cocktail parties... 15. Poe says "It's all about the net" I say name dropping is the currencey of the online fan, I have altered my stratagey somewhat, yes spary paint the name Http://PolishChick.Com wherever you can, but realisticly I also leave behind Http://Poe.Navelsex.Com and Http://Poe.Org , they all scream out "CLICK ME CLICK ME!!!" as well as adding the www Poe org name on mp3's the live stuff by Poe is VERY popular. The intangible results may in part be measured as the AP ranks grow. I know for sure two new AP's will be joining from napster contact.... the other result may simply be having the right person at the right time cross the path left by an AP 16. No matter what, no matter how many people join the AP's, when you go to a show, IF there is a tour, the AP's will be a minority of the crowd, and you will be glad to be part of that minority. 17. Thanks to Sarae for pointing out that a free Unix shell may be had @ http://www.takiweb.com/index3.html for those of you who have ISP's with IRC issues, or who can never have enough access. Tessa ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Feb 2001 15:29:55 -0800 From: "MELISSA STEWARD" Subject: Re: NPR: question for anyone that cares Tessa In high school boys are generally afraid of EVERY girl, regardless of what you look like. I think it's because we overpower them with our maturity (oh geez, hope I didn't just start another heated discussion on men vs. women). I think you have nothing to lose and should go for it. Here's a couple scenarios: He says No - So!!!! You go anyway and have a blast with your friends without having to worry about making your date happy or making sure he is having a good time. Sometimes you have more fun if you go by yourself, unless you have a serious boyfriend and the two of you both enjoy dancing (I love to dance and my husband won't move a muscle! Needless to say I have many "girls night out"s). He says Yes - Yippee! You get to take this guy, who you are interested in but know nothing about (that's intriguing in itself (wink, wink)), show him off to all your friends and possibly find the beginning of something wonderful . Both scenarios sound rather painless to me. As far as the part about you not thinking you are pretty...I went through high school thinking I was an ugly duckling. And I'm not bragging here, but I am not that bad looking...now, I guess. But back then wherever I went with my friends, the guys always asked THEM to dance, or came up and started a conversation with THEM. I used to get so frustrated because I didn't think I was ugly, I'll admit I had no fashion sense when it came to hairstyles --- clothes were a different story, I was actually the first person to wear the latest trends at my school. That's besides the point, what I'm trying to say is that you are never half as bad as you think you are. You need to build some self-esteem and confidence and realize that you are an awesome person and one rejection isn't the end of the world. I am still with my high school sweetheart (since age 14, we are now 23) and not a day goes by without him telling me I'm beautiful. After hearing that for awhile, you really start to believe it :-) Good luck with what you decide to do, just remember that the whole point of high school is to have the most fun you can possibly have. Don't worry about other people and their opinions. I did and it kept me from really taking advantage of all the exciting things that were happening. You are an Angry Pschyo for gosh sakes! That alone makes you the most beautiful person on this planet! Melissa p.s. The receptive female role is all part of the package I suppose...get banged into oblivious orgasm and just enjoy yourself and shut the f**k up while you're at it. The weasels who market and promote this crap definitely do NOT want any well sublimated woman "thinker" interfering with their product, so the less exposure that kind of grrrl gets, the better...even moreso someone like Ani DiFranco, who has the nerve to do all the production and marketing and such herself... those pigs don't even get a piece of her pie. So, individualism is out...especially if you are female...and all the guys have to be herded into that mindset too. Thank God for the internet...though the weasel industry is working overtime to get a lock on that too...many new bands are going for the self production via the internet route; and many of them are becoming fairly successful at it too. In this regard, a girl/woman like Poe, who produces her own material and has definite "ideas" about what should go into it and also has massive internet expertise, becomes a big threat to the power brokers...but, too bad for them...she's not a virgin anymore:-) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Feb 2001 20:53:17 -0500 From: "ABIGAIL DRAKE" Subject: Re: A QuEsTiOn... any particular reason you decided to ask? my answer: of course, what's not to be accepted? >From: SpArKi00@aol.com >To: angry-psychos@smoe.org >Subject: A QuEsTiOn... >Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 19:06:43 EST > > >my comment for the day: >or rather, question. do you except gay people??? >-sunny _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Feb 2001 21:05:59 EST From: Evo1777@aol.com Subject: Re: Sheet Music ive got "spanish doll" figured out, as well "as if you were here." i just need to get them on a computer. thanks for everyones patience. i will get them up as soon as possible. i just got a program that allows me to write tablature as well as standard notation and lyrics. later. mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2001 18:09:48 -0800 (PST) From: Edie Sedgewick Subject: maybe this has already been covered The next single, I am told, is to be Wild. Now, Wild as it stands is 9 minutes long or something. Currently, I think, not even Britney Spears (or whoever is at the top-of-the-charts) could get such a long song on the radio. I assume there will be a "radio edit". So here's the question I have. What sort of edit is being done? Do we know? Are they just chopping off the "techno" (LOL) ending or are they attempting to preserve the weird disjointed two-pronged attack that is Wild, albeit in savagely shortened form? The reason I ask is that, while I am not of the opinion that I should spend my time phoning in requests (I won't go into it), it is fun and unexpected to hear something I like on non-oldies radio, and the character of the edit would radically alter the song's placement on the radio-format spectrum. If they're cutting off the ending, then, I think, whoever said that Wild is a "dance song" was wrong, as the beginning is sort of "soft-rock", not to say "adult contemporary". If the second tack is taken, it will be a hard sell indeed but might end up on the sort of station that starts to play interesting music after 1 AM. So that's my question. Probably we don't know yet. Do we? Twalen Fleety MonkeyMan __________________________________________________ Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Will and Grace, that's me and my best friend... of course he's more like Jack, but that's not the point. He's one of the best people I know (along with the funniest and best dancer). Everyone thinks we're going out/getting married (i mean hello, I'm in high school) but we just play it off cuz its pretty funny acting all "lovey dovey" in front of people. We have so much in common, (and totally different taste in guys) and we always have an awesome time.
