But the Plasmatics were a punk/show band produced by a porno king with bucks to blow. They destroyed Cadillacs and other examples of materialistic, consumerist society as part of their show...the Strats were fair game. In a completely different vein, Jimi Hendrix would go through a Strat in about 3 or 4 months (though he did burn that one at Monterrey)...he was just that hard on his instruments. But by the time he started getting famous he was being supplied by the factory with instruments since it was great publicity. His equipment people didn't even bother refretting his axes cause they could just get new ones gratis...lucky for collectors, this resulted in dozens of bona-fide Jimi Hendrix Stratocasters that had been cleaned up and brought into pristine condition and were barely "used" in the traditional sense. One of Hendrix greatest fans, Stevie Ray Vaughan, was just as hard on instruments...but he was like you; he loved certain ones...so his equipment guys were forever refretting and renutting and repairing them. I laugh when I see closeups of his Strat...it looks like the result of one of Wendy O's chainsaw forays:-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Jan 2001 14:05:05 EST From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: Tourmate. On a few of these fansites, people had posted music files from her concerts. I was unable to get them at the time (I didn't have a computer), but I have been looking forever for a song that I have only heard Poe do in concert. I believe it's called "How Long" or something along those lines (if you've heard it, you know what I'm talking about). It was the only song she played at her concerts that I didn't recognize. If anyone knows where I can score a copy of this song, published recording or not, please let me know. NPR Answers: Seems that a couple people have been talking about Lucious Jackson lately. I would suggest that you skip the rest of this if you aren't interested. I'm no expert, but here's a little info for the curious: Originally a 2 member group, they were discovered by the Beastie Boys for their unique sound and signed to the Grand Royal label. They released their first EP in 1992, the rather interesting "In Search of Manny". Their next album featured 2 new members, and a full complement of songs. "Natural Ingredients", released in 1994 teems with man-hating sentiment, but it's some damn catchy music. The same members released "Fever In, Fever Out" in 1996, which spawned a couple of singles (Naked Eye was one of them, and is the video you have been describing on the list, with the members roaming around an airport). This album showed considerably more maturity than the previous album, as well as an all-around more mellow vibe. Their fourth and final release, "Electric Honey" came out in 1999, and was sans a member. It didn't seem to harm their sound tho... in fact this album is widely accepted as their best. The music seems to have matured to a really exceptional level. A must purchase. Shortly after recording their last single for the "Titan AE" soundtrack, the remaining 3 members of the group broke up to pursue solo projects. One thing to note: Vocalist/bassist/guitarist Jill Cuniff and vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Gabrielle Glaser, the 2 original members of the band, continued to do most of the songwriting througout the group's career, so their sound never really changed, just refined. If you don't like one of their albums, chances are you won't like the rest either. You can check out samples on Amazon. Interested in Japanese Music?
