Haynal" Subject: intro Hello everyone! What follows is my attempt at an intro...enjoy! (1) Who you are?, I am Craig, aka netgod on IRC. (2) Where you're from?, I currently live and work in State College, PA: home of the Penn State Nittany Lions! Though I'm originally from Johnstown, PA: the home of big floods. (3) How old you are?, I am 23 years old and getting older each and every day :( (4) Where you first heard Poe?, Back in the fall of 1996 or so while wandering about the PSU campus I happened upon the tail end of a live performance of Poe and was enthralled! I obtained a copy of Hello and was forever a Poe devotee! (5) What other musicians do you listen to? and Many, music is good. My all-time favorites are Depeche Mode, Dead Can Dance, They Might Be Giants, Hooverphonic, Moby, Delerium, and Portishead. Though Bald Rapunzel, Hover, Antarctica, Holy Mary Mother of Bert, Modest Mouse, The Mercury Program, and Switchblade Symphony are all worth mentioning as well. I could probably list off dozens more, but I don't want to spam you all with my eclectic musical tastes! (6) Any other interesting information you wish to share. I spend far too much time playing TFC & HL, just in case you've been privileged enough to have been wiped up by Tripwire (another favorite alias). I administer networks and write software for fun, er, for a living. And that's about all I care to share, for now. Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits (Various Artists) -- Modern artists redo the theme songs to Saturday morning cartoons. Frente, Liz Phair, Sublime, The Murmurs, Matthew Sweet, and a bunch of other groovy groovy artists do their thing on here. You Can't Stop The Bum Rush (Len) -- How can you not smile when you hear "Steal My Sunshine" As a personal bonus to moi the video was filmed in my favourite arcade in Daytona Beach. *grins* The Reality Bites Original Motion Picture Soundtrack -- I don't know why but I just love this movie and it's music. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts' Club Band (The Beatles) -- The Beatles. *sigh* What can I say? They make me happy. And although I think rather bitterly of my ex most of the songs on here remind me of happy memories. Anthologies 2 and 3 are actually pretty good, too. Tidal (Fiona Apple) and When the Pawn... (Fiona Apple) -- They just make me happy to be bitchy and bitter and female. Odd sounding I guess but they really lift my mood no matter how I feel. And of course POE! <3 - --Tracey. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Jan 2001 18:56:39 -0800 From: "Tim Dube" Subject: Re: mary prankster and poe if you are talking about the 9:30 club in Washington DC then myself and a whole ton of other psychos saw what was imo the best POE show ever. :) - -shout out to all the psychos from the Richmond Gathering- dubious - ----Original Message Follows---- From: Mancilia@aol.com To: angry-psychos@smoe.org Subject: Re: mary prankster and poe Date: Thu, 4 Jan 2001 21:18:39 EST Yeah, i did actually see them at this place called the 9:30 club with tsar and sr-71... they were great. (Not at that time, of course.... He was renting there several years later. Every time I would go there I would run in and go to the bedroom that Janeane Garafalo's character inhabited and refuse to come out for at least 15 minutes. I thought it gave me some goddess power or something. Incidentally, this friend that I mention is the same guy who I stated was my musical idol in a message earlier today. Great. Cheers Steve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 00:23:07 -0500 From: "Stephen van Vuuren" Subject: RE: RequestFest List - Haunted not a major radio hit nothing wrong with not being popular. I've been a huge Kate Bush fan for over a decade and actually only heard her on the radio once when I lived in LA. I'm not saying don't request like crazy, but don't see it as "bad" if Haunted is not a huge hit. I just hope it's successful enough for a tour, a continued record contract and rewarding enough for Poe and others who worked so hard making it happen that they will keep making music. I think Poe's lack of radio "success" this time is simply due to the fact it's a major step forward for her artistically. I love Hello (I actually wore out my first CD). But it's a catchier, hookier type album that American radio prefers. Also, radio wants Angry Johnny 2. Artists that take chances with their second album after first initial success always run into trouble getting airplay. Haunted is really a masterwork - I think it's a good sign that it's not a huge radio hit. Plus, if the rest of America is similar to central NC, radio is less friendly to artists like Poe. In 1995, we had two "alternative" stations. Now, we have a hard rock (Creed, Metallica & Zeppelin), pop (Britney & Boy band of the month), half a dozen country stations, a couple of soft rock, a new 80's station (which I'm embarrassed to admit I love having graduated in 1984 from high school, but it's musical ear candy), and a rap station. Our college stations might play here, and in bigger markets (e.g. Charlotte), they still have "alternative" stations. So, Poe would get played here unless either the hard rock or pop station thought she was so huge they had to play her. Even "Hello" had a short radio life here...only our alternative rock station (now just a hard rock station) would play it sparingly. stephen www.xiveren.com "The eighth rule of Fight Club is: If this is your first night at Fight Club, you HAVE to fight " ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 00:42:55 EST From: PorinthiaStar@aol.com Subject: Re: Who Am I THAT'S JUST BAD! ....I SEE YOU'RE STILL RECOVERING FROM NEW YEAR'S!! :) In a message dated Tue, 2 Jan 2001 5:59:55 PM Eastern Standard Time, Thinggeee@aol.com writes: << In a message dated 1/2/01 5:38:53 PM EST, Krod Knid writes: << << alright, alright,. another Florida AP >> The FAPs??:-) >> The FLAP's ... our official food is flapjacks!!!
