(that's quite a rant, eh KrodKnid?) Yea - the old jocks literally trashed the place on the air - THAT was actually great - they were 'permitted' to stay on 'till the change over but they ragged on the 'Go Oldies' decision on air soooo much that they were pulled early and for about ?? 2 weeks the station played a loop 'we're under construction'. Then the oldies started. And never stopped. I had moved to VA from the NY metro area, so I left DRE/LIR/DRE/The Island and TheBUZZ kept me sane for a while, till the Oldies. Now I listen to WNRN 91.9 FM in Charlottesville VA which is on the net at http://wnrn.cstone.net/ carrying a live feed. POE's on it a bit. I've only heard 'Walk the Walk' so far - even pre-album release. Central VA is another seemingly conservative 'hot-bed' so the 'marketing decision' probably did add up especially since (last I looked) the Oldies station is a smaller airstaff footprint. p.s. I notice a lotta AOL accounts here - I'm in as svisokay & don't mind an occasional 'Hello' also my rarely used ICQ is 52873794. Thanks for all the welcomes! Name's Bill, usually go by "Hemp" (derivative of my last name), though in the more, um, grandiose moods of myself and others, "The Hemperor" has been used... (2) Where you're from? Lots of places - Born in Germany, as a child lived with my parents (heard it was just the thing to do) as they moved around to California, Greece, Washington DC and then settled in a little place called South Bend (extra points if you can figure that one out). Went to college in New Jersey, lived briefly (not briefly enough for my cold-weather-loving self) in Georgia, moved to Korea for about a year and a half (again, I feel this was too long), and now I'm back in the land of my birth, Germany. So I guess the short answer was, "I'm from Germany"...though it gives quite a different impression... (3) How old you are? creeping right up on that quarter-century mark. (4) Where you first heard Poe? "Junkie" on some unidentified radio station in NYC on a weekend getaway from college. Bought the disc the next day and it stayed in my CD changer nearly the entirety of the rest of my college career. (5) What other musicians do you listen to? Gads, there's a doozy. Well, let's just hit the highlights: K's Choice, Belly, Izzy Stradlin, Sarah McLachlan, Metallica, Cure, Guns N' Roses, Everclear, Clannad, White Zombie, Nine Inch Nails, Dido, Nina Gordon (both before and after Veruca Salt), and others...keep in mind this only reflects those who have multiple albums in my collection, and it's far from comprehensive. (6) Any other interesting information you wish to share. Nah, I usually just answer direct questions (assuming I don't need to figure out a clever way to avoid them). Just want to remind everybody not to be jealous, the voices might speak to you someday too. Sen. Frank Murkowski had a column in last Sunday's Outlook Section of The Washington Post, calling for opening up this glorious area (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) to oil exploration. Bush says this is going to be one of his priorities. Even though Clinton is president for only a few more weeks, he can still designate the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to be a National Monument which would forever protect that pristine wilderness from oil drilling and other commercial development. Bush has already stated that he will turn the Refuge over to big oil. Clinton is on his way out and is sympathetic to this cause and has already protected more wildlands since Teddy Roosevelt was president. All he needs is a push from the public. Please call the White House hotline at 202-456-1111 (press "0" when prompted) from 8:30-5:00 EST and tell the comments-line operator that you want President Clinton to declare the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to be a National Monument as the last great environmental act of his presidency. This one action may result in the protection of more animals than almost anything else you can do. You may also send the president an email at: president@whitehouse.gov; or fax: 202-456-2461. Your message or phone call can simply say: Mr. President, As the last environmental act of your presidency, I am asking you to designate the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to be a National Monument. Please culminate your presidency with this great environmental legacy. Thank you. Please send this to everyone that you know. - ------- End of forwarded message ------- ________________________________________________________________________ - --> get your free, private gURLmail account at http://www.gURLmail.com!! It's nice to be able to yell at that one-who-done-you-wrong, ("Hey Jealousy"), and still be able to spin around the room in a whimsy while doing so. (I can't BELIEVE the stuff I admit to you people.) The problem with all these albums though, in the end, is they do bring me back down at least somewhat, because all these bands are gone now and I will never have a chance to hear more from these bands or get to hear these songs live. Now that nobody is using it I find myself missing more of the important stuff while trying to filter out all of the babble. (not that it's ALL babble!) Just my two cents floating to the top again...
