Well that depends on type of person you are and what will light that fire inside... If you want some aggressive music that has self esteem boosting lyrics. I highly suggest Pantera's Vulgar display of power. Then there is the introspective Rollins Band a.k.a. Henry Rollins.. End of Silence has to be one album that all the lyrics make you take a hard look at yourself and realize the negative cycle we sometimes put ourselves through or negative relationships... Pantera is not for the weakhearted. It may be hard to get past the guitar wails and crunching, but Rollins should be a little easier to get down. If you focus and listen to the lyrics you'll find the music only enhances the lyrics even more. Soon you'll be on the emotional cleansing roller coaster ride that by the end of the album you'll feel like you have just been through a major workout in the gym...Anyways thats my opinion..Think I'll go back to lurking again..Be well as Henry would say..Be strong, Get stronger The Blue Bastard ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Jan 2001 11:56:21 -0000 From: "monkeygrrl66 _" Subject: Re: depressed albums the album that my sister & i tend to put in the player when we are all bummed out is chris isaak's 'forever blue.' it's depressing as hell, and i'm not sure if it helps or worsens the situation... > > > while this funeral talk is mighty interesting, i > > really do believe, i have > > another idea for a category: Album Most Able to Help > > You Withdrawl from > > Suicidal Tendencies (aka Makes You Want to Live) -- > > dont know if thats a > > decent category, but its a worthwhile question. > >---The Downward Spiral does it for me everytime, in >fact any NIN album will make me start to feel better. >Just when I think I've hit bottom, I listen to them >and realize, "Damn, my life doesn't suck that bad!" > >---Jobe >Yahoo! True that some of their songs are depressing, but their songs are so easy to relate to and they touch that area where when you think someone else can't feel what you feel, or when you're overcome with emotion and cannot speak because of it, U2's songs hit those emotions and just make them easier to come out. Also I would have to say Beck's "Midnite Vultures" because the songs on there are so crazy that they have to make you laugh or dance or something that'll get your mind off of what you're depressed or worrying about. ~*~ Fade, made the fade, passion's overrated anyway~ Massive Attack ~*~ Grow up and be a man, drop dead right where I stand~ Hole ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 09:44:04 -0500 From: "Stephen N. Funeral Songs... 1) "God Called in Sick Today", by AFI...AFI is the best band ever. Every song strikes a cord in me somewhere...God Called in Sick Today is the best song I've heard in a long time, it's a masterpiece. 2) "Morning Star", by AFI...Just as wonderful as God Called in Sick...very moody...... 3) "Pity the Dead", by Bad Religion...Death is JUST another word for freedom...."Why do we pity the dead?"...maybe I can create a special mix that also incorporates the song, "A Walk"...those that are into BR know what I'm talking about...and if you don't check out the lyrics...these songs are on "The Gray Race" album... 4) "Tonight and the Rest of my Life", by Nina Gordon...I think of death as just another step in growing up...this song is soo uplifting... 5) "Fly Away", by Poe...Of course I havta have Poe in here, but ever since I heard that song I knew I wanted it played at my funeral. Depressed Albums... 1) "In Flight", by Linda Perry...Wonderfully moody album, must listen to it in headphones to get the full effect... 2) Anything by AFI...the energy and the emotion put into the music can lift me out of anything for the moment I'm listening to them...Specially the later stuff...it's much darker...pure brillance... 3) Either, "No Need To Argue", or "Everybody Else is..." by the Cranberries...IMO, they were a much better band when they were all depressed. 4) Duncan Shiek's Self-titled...I find myself listening to this album alot when I'm not feeling all too well in the psychi... 5) I can't really think of another one, but when I just need a motivation pick-up I listen to the Run Lola Run Soundtrack... OK, everyone take care... Yahoo! Oh well, the station started SUCKING and started > to > play all of these bland bands that sound the same. ************************************ I am convinced that ultra rich, ultra conservative types with heavy "old school" connections in the music industry (people like Disney, Gene Autry and Bob Hope et al, in collusion with lamer cohorts of the Pat Boone/Frankie Avalon school and self proclaimed "founding fathers of rock" guys like Wolfman Jack and Dick Clark and Don Kirchner and musicians who were also-rans from the Chuck Berry/Little Richard/Elvis/ Jerry Lee Lewis era) often do this sort of thing to f**k with their liberal counterparts. It also has something to do with an ongoing "culture war" and is very much tied to politics in the "overground" community. They know there is no way in hell this stuff in going to outsell current rock artists, but it is in the nature the tax-write-off commercially. When the "Mighty Met", KMET, one of the hardest rocking classic rock/metal stations in Los Angeles was turned into "The Wave" (new age ointment station) it was the result of a corporate decision by new owners, but when Pirate Radio100.3, one of the best punk/alternative/hard core metal stations I have ever listened to, was turned into an "easy hits" soft rock monstrosity it stank of conservative power player meddling. The exact same thing happened to a Dayton station shortly after I moved to Ohio...I didn't even get to listen to it long enough to remember the call letters, but it was a great station. It is much easier to understand this sort of thing in southwest Ohio, since there is a lot of ultra conservative "old money" around here as well as the sort of music industry connections (to Nashville as well) that go with it. Anywhoo...those people suck!! They can take their friggin' Christmas Extravaganza "starring" the local "pops" orchestra with special guests from the golden era of rock and smooth hitz and sequin-suited country crap and stuff it down the throats of their born-again pablum eaters all they want, they still won't amount to anything but styrofoam in diapers...or depends. While I find the chosen artist's on-record pain to SOUND wrenching and horrid, I still know in all assuredness, "SURE Trent/Lanye/Mr. Mathers/whomever-you-choose-to-listen-to...... I can top THAT." But somehow, instead of making me want to jump in the car and drive 6 hours to New Orleans to slap some sense into Our Boy of Perpetual Pissed Off, instead I just exclaim, in exasperation, "Well, this isn't gonna work.... I think (& hope) that they make the new record their considering. But yeah, Kelly's done with the whole project. I think she's still with the Kelley Deal 6000 though. If you go to noaloha.com you'll also see that she's a devout knitter. They sell her handmade bags for $40 *choke* a piece.
