Massive Attack: 'Teardrop' Autechre: 'vletrmx21' Autechre: '444' Sarah McLachlan: 'Elsewhere'/'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' 'The Best Is Yet to Come' - end titles to Metal Gear: Solid Portishead: 'Western Eyes' 'Teardrop' because one of the things it addresses is existence beyond what we call "reality." Then cos it's a funeral it'd refer to the afterlife, and it's just plain beautiful. The Sarah songs, in addition to being my two favorites from "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy," are both uplifting triumphal songs in a subdued way. Two of them cos I can't really decide between. 'The Best is Yet to Come' is a very beautiful Celt-folk song, with a soaring vocal reminiscent of Liz Fraser's later work. Given its title, that death is not really an end, and its beauty. I picked the Portishead cos it's one of the more conventional |P| songs in their corpus yet is starkly beautiful. One of its lyrics include, "I feel so cold / on hookers and gin / this mess we're in" which come to think of it isn't that reassuring but in any case would be a nice jolt of irony. The two Autechre songs just cos they're beautiful. rambling always Lee "I see that boy dyin and I dont feel nuthin." >---One question: If you could have any five songs >played at your funeral, what would they be? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 15:53:57 -0800 From: "Mike Brame" Subject: Re: Poe is NOT touring with Everlast I actually am an Everlast fan. (Though I'm pretty sure my "loved ones" will be offended or at least a good bit irred by most of my selections. Does it have to be sad? Hell no, and don't make me list the reasons why. Death is, often, just as natural as birth, so celebrate both, as they are both necessary parts of life. Normally, I'm down for Alice In Chains at ANY given event -- b-day party, wedding, divorce settlement cocktail -- as for a funeral, "Man In The Box" may be a tad harsh for those elder loved ones who basically only leave the house for such events.
