I adore Masamune Shirow's art style, so I was disappointed that GitS wasn't drawn the same way (as opposed to, say, Appleseed or Black Magic M-66). But it really was a decent movie, especially compared to most of the crap-anime that gets translated. On the other hand, there's Akira, which was based only PART of the manga series. That's why it's so confusing. Most Western viewers have never even seen the manga in print, much less read it, and without it the movie makes little or no sense. elsetime, nem0 (wishes she could draw like Shirow... ;_;) - --- "I'm not a wallflower. Amazon.com and Animenation.com sell some. Try getting titles by Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaa), Kenichi Sonada (Gunsmith Cats), Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell), CLAMP (Rayearth, X/1999), or Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura). Also, check your local book store. I know Barnes & Noble and Hastings carry some titles, and most comic book stores have a decent anime/manga section. Also, check out the Online Comic Artist Directory (http://ocad.syste.ms/) for good online comics and manga. ^_^ elsetime, nem0 - --- "I'm not a wallflower. Despite the decsivingly feminine sound of my name, I am actually a male of the species homo-sapiens-sapiens, or at least a roughly compatible facsimilie thereof. I live in Tulsa, OK... which is a very, very scary place. I recently graduated from the University of Tulsa and am about to turn 23. I am originally from a small hamlet in East Texas, known to some as Nacogdoches, but mostly referred to as "a wretched hive of scum and villainy" by its residents. I first heard Poe on the radio back in 96 I think, with Angry Johnny. I thought it wasa delightfully mean- spirited song, and filed her name away in the back of my mind of people to look out for. Then a few months later I heard Trigger Happy Jack, and being the Star Wars fanatic that I am, fell in love with her when she used the term "Jedi Mind Trick" in a mainstream pop song. I had about given up on Poe ever releasing another album when an English major friend of mine referred me to Mark's noveland told me about the upcoming album and its connection to the book. Of course, i immediately picked up the book, read it, and anxiously awaited the release of Haunted. When I had digested the book and listened to the new album, I found myself wrapped up in the world of the Danielewskis, and not a day goes by that i don't think about them and their lives and works. I have never had the pleasure of seeing her perform live in concert, though I did trek to Dallas last month to see her sing and talk at the Borders tour. Wow, that's about all I can say. Awesome experience. I also got to interview both Poe and Mark recently for a website that unfortunately went out of business while I was in the midst of writing the story... so if any of you guys have any suggestions as to who might publish such a work, I am all ears. Ok, so I think i answered all the requisite questions ... probably a bit more verbosely than anyone would care for... anyway, glad to be here, rock on.
