Hey, I want to get the new KBCO CD. Seeing as I don't live anywhere near
Denver, I need a kind psycho to give up their Saturday and camp out and get
one. ;) I would be happy to pay for it, postage, and throw in a little Poe
extra too.
I also wanted to thank all the psychos who have been helping me out with
stuff. I've been stunned at the generosity. It does help to know that there
are still many nice people here, even when we flame each other to a crisp ;)

To whom it does concern,
Pirating software isn't very nice. Don't you have any respect for the law?
Come now, you know better than this. I know your mother. She's a nice lady.
She wouldn't want you engaging in this sort of activity. And then bragging
about it publicly? That's simply outrageous!
Oh, this "Debian Linux" character is simply angry that he/she has never been
offered any money to 'sell out'. We covet what we see every day, no? Yes
Debian, you want the suits to show up and offer you a nice big check. You're
jealous of Poe's ability to completely alter her musical stylings in
accordance with upstairs AND get paid for it. You could alter your
"music/art/writing" to be more like "Destiny's Child/Jerry Bruckheimer/John
Grisham" but no one would pay you for it. (Oh christ how I hate John
Grisham's "writing".)
In other Xeno-related news, I'll be needing a place to crash at some point
during Poe's tour. I plan on making a few shows and would therefore
appreciate if everyone could contact me privately if you can put me up.

Actually, Ten Things I Hate About You was quite stereotypical and not
different from many other *teen flicks*. Despite the fact that sexy Heath
Ledger was in the movie, it didn't stop it from being like all of the others.
The most popular girl in school is the object of the new boy's affection and
is considered a geek by the popular boy who just HAPPENS to drive a porche
which is wrecked by the most popular girl's sister who happens to be very
unpopular and drives a vintage car whose best friend is a Shakespeare freak
and loves drama (I'm DEFINITLY not saying that this is bad but since society
thinks that ALL people who try to be unpopular tend to love acting and
Shakespeare this is typical). It wasn't a bad movie, but nothing set it apart
from the others. The only movies about teenagers (I HATE that word) that I
find commendable are John Hughes movies (16 Candles, The Breakfast Club,
Pretty in Pink, etc).

since someone else has shared their idea for a vid...
here's mine...if anyone cares
its kinda simple...but stuff could get added in...
Poe driving a small convertible or something...at night...along the cliffs of
Malibu ...or something like that...
ya know those twisty windy roads along the edge of a cliff, with the ocean at
the bottom...whatever
anyway, she's driving like well...crazy...close ups on her singing...long
shots of the car weaving around the turns
"there's a siren on my tail..." cop car following her, with lights going...
she speeds up, grinning wickedly thru the rear-view mirror
close ups on cop...all confused, but still chasing after her
usual cop chase cliche stuff...
then right before the song slows down...she goes off the road into a small
ditch...
shot of the cop walking toward the car...
shot of poe sitting with the driver side door open, legs hanging out...
o0o0o0o she's wearing a faux fur and (we assume) nothing else...
she taunts the cop "hey now...can't u feel me longing..."
groping his tush and whatnot..., "can't u feel...me" (swift move of poe's
grabbing his handcuffs and pulling him over her into the car and handcuffing
him to the passenger side door...
music speeds up...she duct tapes his mouth...oh there is no door lock thing
on his side...he's trapped...
she climbs back in the car, and drives off with the cop all tied up and
freaking out....hehehe
(I'm sure a psychoanalyst would have a field day determining this fucked up
fantasy...but hey...its what i imagine when i close my eyes and listen to the

Ain't that the truth. Well, before you (...not you in particular... I mean,
before you meaning anyone out there, in general...) complains about an artist
being too difficult about their contracts, or charging too much for tickets
to their shows, or their t-shirts or what not costing too much, remember
things like this. Just like with actors, artists tend to make one of the
lesser percentages of anyone involved in the sale or distribution of their
music. This is why the Screen Actors Guild just went thru a strike to keep
commercial producers from taking even more away from the paychecks of
commercial actors. And even multi-million dollar earning film actors pitched
in to help them, because when one sect of their brotherhood loses footing,
they all do. OK, it probably did seem revolting to TV fans when the cast of
"Friends" fought to secure contracts guarenteeing each of them almost a mil
per episode, but if you knew how much the execs and the network make off them
each week, what the actors are asking for is chump change. Yes, they still
make a revoltingly high salary, and would I be happy with one-20th of that
for doing the same amount of work? I'd probably be damn euphoric about it,
for a while. Until I realized that I was footing the so-called "career" of
some blowhard that does lunch all day and can write off his drinking problem
on his expense account. I'd really grow to resent that, and I'd think I
would have every right to.
Why all this babbling about what actors go thru? Well, musicians don't
really have it any better. Yes, a lot of this has been said before, but some
of it does deem reiterating. Many artists go thru years of struggling,
starving, suffering and, if lucky, being others' workhorses to achieve just
some semblance of success. There's no job security, no quality medical and
dental plan, and massive debts are incured in the effort to build such
careers. A 20-year struggle can include only a handful of years of true
success, from which a life of struggling must then be paid for, and then a
remaining life must be invested and saved and portioned out for. (Think of it
in terms of a pro football player stretching a 10-year max career's earnings
throughout an entire life.)
OK, I am babbling here. But I do have a point. Be careful before judging a
person, no matter their station in life, because we all have very different
situations but the same problems and issues that must be dealt with. Would
you call a lawyer a "sell-out"? Many of them spend years working towards
being the most in-demand, best-paid professionals they can be. "Oh, but
lawyers help people." Sure they do... everyone from the innocent to the
guilty as sin. It's still "out for self."
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. But let's be
honest... We all may as well be living in fishbowls.

I am quite aware that 10 Things came from Taming of the Shrew and considering
that other teenybopper flicks were supposedly based on classics and novels
only makes it more stereotypical. These movies bastardize these works of art
and turn them into stale, totally predictable movies. I wouldn't say that 10
Things and Clueless were *based* on Taming of the Shrew and Emma but were
inspired by these stories which is STILL overrating the movie.

And, God help me, I saw both of them several times in the theater, and
purchased copies as soon as I could. I'm a bit of a sucker for such movies,
for some reason. (Even the Claire and Leo version of "Romeo + Juliet", even
though both of them irk me to death. The cast as a whole was still rather
solid, and it was a visually stunning piece. And, well, when Paul Rudd or
John Leguizamo is involved, I am like SO there.)

Actually, I just recently started getting into the book myself, and I know
there are a lot of other people new to the book. I've been thinking of
trying to get together a discussion group for it. Of course, "ole experts" on
the book would be completely welcome. But I was thinking of discussions
mostly along the lines of stuff that the old fans would find beaten-to-death
issues by this point.

maybe spooky and i are just totally twisted, but somewhere a long the line
we both feel a ballgag needs to come into play, and maybe a tazer.
