Well, not to defend the stripping tangent, as I feel as bored by it as most. However, is it not possible that one can make an artistic statement through nudity? I mean, music, inherently, is something sensual and, especially in the case of works of artists like Poe, certainly has an erotic feel to it. In that sense, the concept of someone stripping to her works is not truly out of bounds. The intention of some of her songs, at least as I've been lead to believe, is to show a sensuality while creating a mood of casual carelessness, as though graphic sex were commonplace. That is certainly an artistic statement which could also be made through stripping. Now, certainly, this isn't always the case, and I don't mean to imply that every stripper is an artist dying to get out. I'm simply saying that, in a way, it could simply be an extension of the music itself, rather than a crude form of degeneration. Personally, I've not heard music more appropriate to make love to than many of Poe's songs. While this is certainly not the cleanest of statements, and I don't claim it to be, I also would hope that she would take such a statement as a compliment. There's an inherent erotic vibe to a lot of it, which could certainly be part of what attracts people to her music in the first place. - -- Brian Kallenbach E-mail: sasori@home.com [O] darkarchon@azraelproductions.com Undernet: Sasori [O] Chatnet: Angelfire AIM: Kindralas [O] ICQ: 21103806 http://members.home.net/sasori/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 00:31:51 PST From: "Red Halcyon" Subject: Re: Spanish Doll Video you know your idea is kind of similar to mine by the way the whole snow globe deal reminds me of the "Mr Plow" episode of 'The Simpsons' specifically the fancy commercial Homer has done in response to Barney the Plow King I actually sent in my idea for the Poe survey thing that the Street Team thingy sent me it went kind of like this the setting is a deserted house bordering on claustrophobia maybe even the Navidson's house from _House of Leaves_ and Poe is hearing the voice of the Spanish Doll which actually does "sing" in the song itself and so she's looking by the way this is where our ideas intersect great minds think alike no for this voice and finally at the end of the song video she finds the Spanish Doll which is being held by none other than her father Rambling always. Of course it can be an artistic statement. I'm just simply stating that "I" want Poes original artistic statement and my perception of her music without a third parties input. I don't mean to sound like I'm belittling anyone's attempt to take something and make it their own. More power to them however they wish to do it. I'm just simply stating my view on the topic, and I thought others might feel the same. I'm only saying my approach to Poe is right for me, and me only. I don't wish to speak for anyone but myself. Just sharing my thoughts on the matter. - -- - --BabyDoll Smith =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Check out the website at : www.babydolljohnson.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 04:27:25 EST From: Kyron2046@aol.com Subject: An Interesting thing... Hey people, Just a little message to keep my active in the group. Haunted has not left my cd player since I've gotten it. I'd have to say that right now my favorite song on the album is Control, but I have to say that Dear Johnny absolutely delights me! I am oblivious as to what has been going on here lately, with work, writing a research paper, and going to lots of little local concerts, I've been out of the loop. Poe is an extreme inspiration to me, and my poetry (no plagarism involved, ok :) ) If anyone is interested in reading my poetry, I'd be willing to share or trade..I've had two published in anthologies, and I hope to get published on my own, and paid too (yeah money would be nice, then I could fly out to the next Poe show and have a good old time) There are so many little things I want to give Poe, including some of my hand-written poetry/prose and some little bracelets and stuff I know she would enjoy, If I mail them somewhere, will she personally get them? Any advice? From what everyone who's met her says, she is very personal with all her fans, and since I missed the borders show here (*big sigh*) I want to get that chance too......
