Actually, not to be lazy, I am not going to make this too long and detailed. (Seeing as this is one of the later shows on the tour, and even though Mark and Poe do give their all in each show, the M.O. for all the shows is relatively the same., so you've heard a lot of the same stories before. I'll try to point out some details I don't recall hearing about so far as well as unique little tidbits. Pardon the randomness of the details. My memory is about as linear as the text in "HOL". - --Did you know that Austin is the first city that ever played Poe's music on the radio? GOD I love that city. - --Mark does this impression of Christopher Walken that will bring you to your knees. (Take that as you will. : ) - -I'm not sure exactly how long everything lasted, but I got there at about 3:15. (It was supposed to start at 3:00, but I'm late for EVERYTHING, and I knew it wouldn't start on time anyways. I was right. It probably started about 3:45. I stayed thru the whole thing, and sat by Poe for the autograph signing session. (It was her way of making up for no AP party. Besides, it was cold and pouring outside. I sure as hell didn't feel like getting back out in that anytime soon.) It was a long, tiring process, but interesting to watch. All kinda of people there. There was a really cool group of girls (I'd say they were in the early 20 range) and their boyfriends who were as comfortable with Poe and she is with all her fans, (which oddly enough we didn't see a lot of that day.) They talked about how they were heading to a jazz club after they left the store, and we wanted to get up and go with them! - - Only two other APs were there, (that we know of, that is,) Brett and Brandon (on his Texas pilgrimage.) We have GOT to improve those numbers somehow, because I just cannot afford to move to Austin yet. (Though if desire equaled funds, I would have been living there by the time I was 16.) - - OK. Not to abuse the beauty and value of a song, but after seeing that many people approach Poe about how "If You Were Here" has been so helpful in getting them thru the loss of a loved one, it is clear to see that this CD would be a perfect gift for someone trying to get thru such a matter, and the number of such people out there are too numerous. I have a friend who lost her grandmother years ago but is still trying to deal with the loss of "one of the best friends" she's ever had. I haven't thought of anyone to get the CD for for the holidays, nor what to get for this particular friend, but in that day I found a solution to two matters. - - I'd like to thank Cody for restoring my faith in true hip hop and keepin' it real. At a time when true rap an hip hopping and the ART of sampling are nearly impossible to find, his work on the wheels just warmed my heart. (OK, Poe. You are to thank for this too of course, but hey, I got a thang for DJs. = ) - - I'm not sure how the Borders staffs have been at the other locations, but the staff at the Houston Westheimer location bent over backwards for Mark and Poe. (I truly thought the manager was going to offer them massages while they signed autographs or something.) They signed and talked until every last person had been met. (You should see how loopy Poe gets when she gets tired. It's a hoot.) When it got down to about 15 people left, she yelled to everyone, jokingly, "That's it. Sorry. We're done!" You'd think she had just requested a Backstreet Boys song as an Eminem concert. The people were NOT amused. So, I threw my body on the table in from of her and Mark to protect them from the angry natives. (OK, I lied about that last part. Just trying to keep this interesting.) Oh, back to my point... BE GOOD TO YOUR PARTICIPATING BORDERS! The mangers and staffs of these stores turned things upside down to accomodate these events, some more than others. (But don't blame all those that were difficult. If the store is supposed to be locked up and closed at 9, and you still have 50 people waiting for signatures and refusing to give up at 8:45, if you have been on your feet all day and have a long drive home, the concept of people wanting "just some silly autographs" is the last priority on your mind, understandably.) When you shop at these stores, point out to them how much you appreciated the shows. Ask them (the store) if they ever plan to do anything like this with other artists. - -- Sorry I have no pictures from this event. As usual, I forgot my camera. (Kinda on purpose. I hate having my picture taken, and I knew I'd get a ton of "Now let me get one of you and Mark and Poe!") When she comes here on tour, I will take three cameras with me, all different formats, and try to cover the whole damn thing. OK, my mind is going a bit blank, and I've babbled enough. So if anything else comes to me, I will add it later.
