I realize some of you are new to IRC, and some of you are new to the AP list, and combinations thereof. If you are new to IRC, you should be aware that as a channel Operator, persons visiting the channel will turn to you with questions about Poe etc... and you may be called upon to help with IRC commands. Should a visitor to the chat be acting in a manner that you feel is inappropriate, you have the power to kick or ban that person from #poe. You are security, the bouncers if need be. What does a "Secure Chat" mean? Six days and twenty hours a week, not much, not at this time, and maybe never. However, at this time, it does mean that during the SCHEDULED Poe Chat, if there is such a thing as a "Secure Chat" that will be the time for having one. Traditionally Poe Chat AKA the PsYcHo WaRd has been a no holds barred type of atmosphere, I see no indication that it will be any different in the future. However, during a SCHEDULED Poe Chat, things may be a little more formal, for example Poe may wish to engage in an exchange of questions and answers with individual AP's, Channel Operators would ensure this format is followed, or more specifically they would deal with those who might choose to interrupt the scheduled format. The stated purpose of having Operators on #poe is to ensure that any person who is a member of the AP mailing list, has the opportunity to say a little louder "I'm an AP and I LOVE POE" , as an "Operator" I'm willing to hang out in HER chat and help spread the g00d word about HER. Unfortunately that will not always be the case. As can be seen by some of the posts on the list, some are here just to be angry-psychos, without the love of POE, I understand that, no problem :-> PAY CLOSE ATTENTION THIS IS THE FINE PRINT I promised Jarrod a secure chat, to that end, all persons sporting the @symbol next to their Nick Name should use the Nick Name they registered with. For security purposes, if you are in #poe as an Operator, ESPECIALLY during a SCHEDULED CHAT and I do not see your Nick Name on the Autoop / Protect list, I will ask you to change your Nick Name to the one that you registered with and identify for it, if you fail to do so, you will be considered an imposter and will be kicked from the chat until you do so. If you want to come into the chat ANONYMOUSLY you are certainly welcome to do so, but NOT as a channel operator. Having a channel full of power enabled AnOnYmOuS-PsYcHoS Is NOT in the cards. One of the issues with the previous poe.org chat was the forging of Nick Names followed by the forged Nick Name creating personal havoc in the lives of innocent individuals... there are always ways to abuse a good thing, and individuals who will try to do so, we all must keep an eye towards the future when the chat may be a little more crowded than it is now, and hopefully it will be a place where visitors find familiar names all the time. I repeat NO Anonymous channel Operators will be allowed on #poe.
