After putting our minds into a solidly "enhanced" state, I put my Atlantic promo copy (purchased from eBay) into his Playstation, we fired up MTV Music Generator for some freaky visuals, and cranked his big surround sound stereo. All I can say is WOW! We picked out a multitude of different influences – Led Zeppelin guitar riffs in "Terrible Thought", Radiohead style melodies in 5 ½ Minute Hallway, touches of Cheryl Crow and Portishead, not to mention big helpings of Pink Floyd and Underworld all over the place. Haunted is definitely a landmark piece of music, and not just to us Psychos. Rob wasn't much of Poe fan, but he is now. One of his specific comments was "I don't think I have heard a vocalist grow that much between two albums." His prediction is that Madonna's next album is going to sound just like this. Every single song is solid, which is quite an accomplishment these days. Anyway, I just wanted to pass this little episode on for everyone. Sorry for the spoilers for those of you who are holding out, but I wanted to share my thoughts a little bit and see what some of the rest of you have to say. Well, first off, perhaps the most interesting thing, especially for me, cause I been there for the pleasure of this, is that AP's are checking poe.org for info and finding by surprise that the chat is open, next thing you know a familiar name flashes on the screen, "Braids" was the latest. DarkAether has also returned, Moonchild, Cathy_S, MicheleVR5, ED and a few others are often about. While it had been rumored that irc.dal.net #poe would be the home of poe.org chat, I did not know this for a fact until a bit over a few weeks ago maybe. Now that it has become a reality, I have been reviewing the ( http://www.dal.net/index.php3 ) Dal Net website. Please take a good look around it, it won't take long and I'm certain you will find info of value without being overwhelmed, but of importance at the moment is an option I noted available at the Dal Net website, you can vote for your favorite Dal Net chat # . There are at times 20,000 channels available on Dal Net on a typical day, 130 votes have secured first place for #downhomecountry_mp3's Get Registered For Chat http://poe.org/chat.html and then go VOTE http://users.dal.net/cgi-bin/channels.cgi Channel voting status # Channel Votes 1 #downhomecountry_mp3's 130 2 #c++ 116 3 #tanhai 105 4 #pg 90 5 #oped 75 6 #mbr 69 7 #finalfantasy 57 8 #crypt 42 9 #eblana 33 10 #crush 25 eYe h0pe eYe d0n't have ta say 2 mUch on the VOTE, this is the ONE that counts!!!! :> just keep an eYe out for pickup trucks.... We now have enough registered AP's to crack the top 10 so make sure you vote, and let them know that #poe will be untouchable shortly. http://users.dal.net/cgi-bin/channels.cgi that is for people who have registered their nicknames It is shaping up into a very interesting environment I am currently holding the POE nickname, thanks to the efforts of "poetess" a nice girl from a downstate NY school who knows I have a thing for POE, so when the name became available she let me know the same day figuring I might want it!!! if you see "poetess" on irc.dal.net you are in very g00d company. I am holding the nickname MZD thanks to the forward thinking of "Darkcloakpoe" who has been suffering from a disconnected modem, and best wishes for his speedy return. I doubt ANY IRC chat, of this size, and I would rate Dal Net #2 only to irc.us.Undernet.org and that is only in terms of numbers of users and channels, (Dal Net @ 55,000 users in 20,000 channels at this writing ) in terms of QUALITY Dal Net cannot be beat, but as I was saying, I doubt any chat that is this public, could boast that the person behind the name is the actual owner. Well hopefully that is how it will all turn out There are AP's who are registered ops from the past who have not showed up yet, (or in more than a bit :> ) please do so and VOTE, Aaron, AT, Becky, D-max, Platratt, Anfrey, Calliope, Sinatra, Gideon, PradaBoy, Jazz, K15, Rhondeau, Beachrat, Nexgen, and Coldnuke are a few I can decipher from the old names on the aop list. If you are them, or know them, drop by and vote . Ya know, there have been times when people have joked/mocked the cyber relationship that is the POE thing, some to the point of denial, but the fact remains, the title cut "Hello" from the "first" CD is much the foundation of all of this, IMHO (lol) while not every b0dies fav, it is mine, talk about a calling card... It seems RIGHT that POE chat IS available on an IRC network, give it a little time, the chat will prob not reach its max peak of activity until a tour starts, but a few weeks after the new CD is out, I think many people will know that #poe is out there :> and no, the chat cannot be overrun, it can be set for invite only, registered ops only, etc ... Now don't be shy, get registered http://poe.org/chat.html and VOTE for #poe 2day :> http://users.dal.net/cgi-bin/channels.cgi see you for the unofficial POE chat Thursday night 10 PM East unless someone starts objecting . sp00k etc ... - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ----------------------------------------- Hear What I Hear ? http://wber.monroe.edu/live.ram 80K Feed ? http://wber.monroe.edu/live2.ram See What I See ? http://Go.To/Fairport Chat About POE ? http://poe.org/chat.html Visit My "POE" Place http://sp00k.da.ru ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 20:43:39 -0700 (PDT) From: Dustin Shelby Subject: House of Leaves Disection Hey..
