As end users, people tend to think that what they see is what everybode else sees when they visit a web site, or have some sort of technical problem. I wrote erin suggesting she maximize her screen in IE 5 to see the submit box and button, as this is what I had to do in order to see them, what I didn't mention, is that when I checked with Netscape 4.51 POE.org worked fine WITH Netscape without having to make any adjustments to the window size. I have a 15" monitor set at 1024 X 768 I run a couple of webcams, the page also includes a couple of slideshows of other local live cams, for some reason IE 5 will not handle the "Refresh" the page needs to exhibit the new image, without modifying the settings, while Netscape has no problem knowing that it needs to go to the web server to get a new image, and not the cache version on your hard drive, yet it also knows, that when you visit a place like Yahoo.com that it does NOT need to download every image file. In conclusion, the experience you are having on YOUR computer, while similar to everybody elses, will be slightly different than your neighbors, in this case the differences in our Hardware and individual system settings is the biggest reason. So next time you are talking to support people, keep in mind, aside from the fact that they are going to treat you like the only thing you know how to do is pop in an AOL disk, their computing experience may be exactly the opposite of yours. sp00k etc ... Actually, I've partied with quite a few bands. And I've never screwed a roadie. :-) Most bands, unless they're on some kind of ego trip like to hang out with people who enjoy their music. As long as you treat them like normal people who happen to be talented in music, and not as some gods above everyone else, you can party with them just like you party with your "normal" friends. Again I say "most" because of course there are those *rock stars* who are way too good to hang with the likes of us "normal" folks. After Warped Tour in DC last year, almost all of the bands hung around after the show and had a cookout in the tour bus lot and any fans who happened to be around could just eat hot dogs and talk to the guys in the bands. Most punk bands are quite sociable and down-to-earth. The one notable person on the bill not present at the cookout was Eminem, suprise, suprise. Damn egos.... From Ember Swift web page http://www.emberswift.com/band.shtml I quote "Lyndell has been playing bass/keyboard/violin/guitar (with bows) singing her heart out, touring, recording and loving every aspect of this self-created lifestyle." Yup something new to me, this lady held a guitar on her foot like a bass cello, and took a bow to it, then a bit later she busted out with what appeared to be a black 2 X 4 but in reality it was a "violin" and to see this lady with her head covered by a mowhawk of red dreads, stomping around the stage doing things to that violin that stirred echoes of Jimi Hendrix in my mind, if you ever get a chance check out these hard hitting ladies, they were the only band that had the entire audience up and dancing the entire set. They tout themselves as a NON MTV band, celebrating being an indie band, so don't wait to hear them if you like this style of music, you are going to have to hunt these ladies down. The main and final act, Grim Skunk http://www.grimskunk.com/home.html had to be moved to the club due to rain, and while they did have the packed club absolutely rocking with a "mosh pit" (in a 30 x 30 room?) the small club atmosphere just can't match what this band could have done outdoors on the bigger stage, but definitely well worth listening to, especially as they are also out of Canada, so chances are it should be NEW music for most of us, Grim Skunk has been called the #1 alternative band out of Quebec. I spoke with members of both bands, and there seems to be good chemistry in both camps. If you have an ear for what are now obscure bands that should enjoy some longevity on the music scene, these two are probably good bets. Once again the BJ Fest was vastly under attended, tho I will give the gray skies and occassional showers some credit for that, I did note many regulars were missing this year, but I still remain surprised that people don't come out in droves for what has been one of the best days of music year after year. sp00k etc ...
