NYC would be good (i'll be back there in early October with the Jennifer Nettles Band) but, it may be too far for some... me.. it's the same distance as vegas. but... i guess we can worry about all that after we figure everything else out. so.. if anyone can answer my questions above.. please do. i think i'll just start freash for regional sign ups for the southeast. 5 years is a while... and most of what i have is probably out of date. - -rusty rusty@poe.org ************************* Imogen Heap: http://www.imogenheap.cjb.net Jennifer Nettles Band: http://www.jennifernettlesband.com Poe: http://www.poe.org (new site coming soon... album 9/19/00) http://images.atlantic-records.com/images/Poe/haunted/poe_mini.jpg coming soon: http://www.stas.net/rusty Vanessa Paradis in "Girl On The Bridge" http://www.girlonthebridge.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 Aug 2000 10:08:34 -0400 From: Robby Black Subject: REGIONAL INFO - Official Hello Psychos...long time no talk. In truth, the cd goes one generation further in the Danielewski family tree, by thematically bonding itself to House of Leaves, the debut novel by Poe's brother, Mark Z. Danielewski. The cd opens with Poe unsuccessfully trying to reach her mother via telephone in "Exploration B", a short intro into the album's title track. "Haunted" makes reference to "November in this house of leaves" and ends with a small bit of "conversation" with Tad Z. Danielewski, Poe and Mark's deceased father. The conversation launches listeners into "Control" a track which was debuted during Poe's lengthy tour in support of her debut album, Hello. The "Control" heard on Haunted is a much more mature and elaborate track than the original, adding layers and even an extra verse to the track, which was originally recorded and planned to be released on a soundtrack to the video game, Apocalypse, in which Poe plays The Plague. Two more excerpts from a "conversation" with her father lead into "Terrible Thought", a track in which Poe describes a thought as "an unwanted room-mate drunk on wine", a "poisonous vine" and "a giant rat that's nibbling on my pride." Again, the track seques with a short conversation with her deceased father. "Walk the Walk" the first single from the album, alludes to Poe's emancipation as a teenager, and ends with another House of Leaves related seque. The seque leads into "Terrified Heart," Poe's second unsuccessful attempt to reach her mother via telephone, which immediately leads into "Wild" a lengthy track about a rocky romance that briefly samples from an earlier Poe release. "5 and 1/2 Minute Hallway" is a tying bind to House of Leaves. The track itself is made reference to in Chapter 21 of the novel, and is based on an excerpt of the book that Poe read while Mark was in the midst of a decade of writing and rewriting. Again, ending with a short conversational seque with her father, Poe reveals to him and the world that she is "Not a Virgin" anymore. "Hey Pretty" tells the story of an open invitation to "take a ride with me through my world," and continues making references to House of Leaves. Parts of the track, as well as parts of many others on the cd were used on a promotional cd for the novel, titled "Exploration #4," which was privately distributed by Mark and Poe, with cooperation from Pantheon Books and Atlantic Records. "Dear Johnny" reassures either Johnny Truant or Angry Johnny that his "secret is safe", before launching into the Angry Psycho friendly "Could've Gone Mad," which debuted as several lines spoken to her fans during Poe's tour in support of Hello, "you cause in me an impossible craving that cannot be denied if I decided to make you my religion I think God would be kind," and matured into a beautiful track, which interconnects Hello, House of Leaves, the Angry Psychos, Poe's rabid fans, and the thematic conversation she is having with her father, but also stands out as a catchy tune that one could find themselves singing along to. "Lemon Meringue" again subtlely connects to House of Leaves, and tells the tale of making a bitter romance a little sweeter. At the end of the track, Tad announces that they are in Madrid, Spain and his daughter is about to sing a song. Poe's "Spanish Doll" mixes Spanish spoken by a childhood toy with a flamenco beat and melody. "House of Leaves" serves as a novel connected seque into Poe finally successfully reaching her mother via telephone. "Amazed" is the "Amazing Journey" or awakening track from the cd, serves as a fitting climax to the cd, which concludes with "If You Were Here," a final goodbye to Poe's father. It isn't often that one finds a cd with a theme so strongly apparent throughout. It is very unique to be able to listen to the cd as a companion, or read the novel as a companion to the cd. Both stories stand out on their own, but accompany the other very well. It will be interesting to see how the songs sound played live, and if Haunted will become a cult hit, or a multiplatinum success for Poe.
