You see, she did not quantify the statement by saying that it was her personal favorite. She simply said that it is the best movie of all time. Therefore one must assume that this child actually believes that, in the entire history of film, Dazed and Confused is the greatest piece ever produced. This is a laughable suggestion. Now, either she actually believes this daft statement or she simply cannot express her thoughts. -Xeno http://travel.to/xeno/ ------------------------------ Date: 19 Apr 2000 10:55:15 -0600 From: "PadmaT" Subject: Poetry anyone? Dear friends from Fulton Street and the Psychos, If you live in the Denver area and aren't doing anything this Saturday, I'm hosting "Mad Blood XV", which should be an extraordinary poetry reading, featuring New York poet, John Kain (author of "Cheater's Paradise: River and Spark"), South Dakota poet James Taylor III (author of "Fresh Leather: The Buffalo Poems"), and Lafayette, CO poet Mike Adams (author of "Broken Hand"). If you're interested, please e-mail me today (Wednesday) or tomorrow (Thursday) before 5:30 for details...I won't be near my computer after tomorrow until Monday. See you there? Padma ------------------------------ Date: 19 Apr 2000 10:51:47 -0600 From: "PadmaT" Subject: The Greatest Movie of All Time? Geez, sorry I've been so long remiss in my postings. All this talk about Poe's next CD is starting to excite me, though, so here I am again.... Padma P.S. Below are my own picks for the greatest films ever made: 1. Zhang Yimou's "Raise the Red Lantern", starring Gong Li. Trust me on this one! Also in my top ten: 2. "Jean de Florette" (starring Gerard Depardieu) and "Manon of the Springs" (starring Emmanuelle Beart) 3. "La Belle Noiseuse" (with Emmanuelle Beart, nude!--but it's very slow-paced, about an artist and his model, so if you need action, skip this one; if you want something very thoughtful that's psychodrama at its most subtle, though, you'll love it!) 4. "City of Lost Children" (the Psychos would LOVE this one!) 5. "Prospero's Books" (but you'd better see Shakespeare's "The Tempest" on stage, first...this is a Peter Greenaway film!) 6. "The Horse's Mouth", a classic from the 50s about a brilliant artist and his inability to respect his patrons. 7. "Dead Man", the western, starring Johnny Depp. Easily the finest western ever made. 8. "American Buffalo" starring Dennis Franz and Dustin Hoffman. This one will stick to your ribs, which is almost too bad because it's so damn disturbing. 9. "Camille Claudel" starring Isabel Adjani, about the French sculptress who studied under Rodin and became his lover, then descended into insanity when he finally rejected her. 10. Tie: "Ju Dou" and "Red Sorghum" by director Zhang Yimou, both starring the world's GREATEST living actress, Gong Li. Many of these are foreign language films (Chinese and French), but hey, you can read, right? Ain't no such thing as a stupid Psycho! _______________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2000 11:17:37 PDT From: "Red Halcyon+On+On" Subject: Re: The Greatest Movie of All Time? >Geez, sorry I've been so long remiss in my postings. All this talk about >Poe's >next CD is starting to excite me, though, so here I am again.... When there's a list, I'm there... Good job Padma, you've got me going... ;) Though I doubt I can name as many as 10. 1. Trois Couleurs: Rouge (Three Colors: Red) - Simply the most beautiful, magnificent, mesmerizing, spell-binding and life-changing film I've ever seen. 2. Thin Red Line - IMHO way better than its cousin Spielberg movie. Such a subtle and gentle war film. And here it becomes an unsorted list: Oscar and Lucinda - My two favorite actors: Ralph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett, who is the greatest actress today, and this her best film. Dark City - Some of you may detest this movie for odd reasons ;), but it is a thoroughly compelling film. If you even remotely liked it, I suggest getting the DVD just for Roger Ebert's amazing commentary track. Cube - Engrossing and scary, if you can look past some weak acting. Ronin - My favorite action flick, mature and dignified. Insider - Who would have thought a movie about a cigarette whistle-blower could be so beautiful? 2001 - Of the two Kubrick I've seen (don't shoot me), an intense ride. Chinatown - A totally self-sustained film that is its own fatal and futile world. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - Don't laugh, this animated film was great cinema. One of the best American animated action films, it beats many of the live-action Batman movies, mostly because Batman was never cooler than in MotP. Mark Hamill as Joker did an amazing job. Ghost in the Shell - I don't watch many anime, but GitS is awesome. So many layers, so little time alotted to me. Strange Days - Another Ralph Fiennes film, a guilty pleasure more or less. An engrossing story, however. Pulp Fiction - Wit times a million. Elizabeth - Cate's biggest performance, though I find the movie itself a bit of a drag. Lee "Do your dreams come true?" "I haven't had a nice dream for years." ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2000 11:36:16 PDT From: "Jason Helton" Subject: Re: The Greatest Movie of All Time?
