Hello U PsYcHoS I was listening to my Fav radio station http://wber.moroe.edu and they have a Friday morning format that many of you might be familiar with where the station manager and a bunch of the DJ's play songs and take calls from the listeners on air with questions, comments, etc... The topic at the moment was about perhaps doing a fund raiser so they could up the wattage of the station and someone suggested releasing a CD of acoustic performances by artists who had visited the studio. The 5th artist mentioned by station manager Joey G. almost knocked me out of my chair, POE. I only say that because he rides her for lack of new work and an affiliation with the local commercial alternative/rock station. However almost immediately one of the other DJ's chimed in that he would leave her off, so I picked up the phone and called them. We had a nice conversation about the future of the station, then I moved on to POE at which point Joey G. revealed that he knew I was sp00k@poe.org I acknowledged that he was right and then went on to say that if WBER were to release an acoustic CD I would hope that it would include POE. He came back with something along the lines of "hey she better be careful or she will get in trouble with WNVE...(the commercial station) Well it just so happens that two weekends ago he was interviewing a band "Guster" on the air, and they made him a member of the band for the day, and he told them "hey be careful or you will get less spins up the dial" I reminded him of that statement and told him I didn't think POE was under any different types of pressure. I also pointed out to him that if POE was a sell out she could have cranked out piece after piece of junk. I told him that POE WILL BE BACK and when she does it will be like the first CD from the first cut to the last, each one a gem. I think it was at that point that Joey announced that I would be happy to know that POE made the TOP 90 Of All Time CD's!!!! SO on Sunday January 2nd starting at 12 noon East Joey Guisto and Frizbee will countdown the top 90 alternative albums of all time as voted by the listeners. So those of you with RealAudio be sure to give a listen, be prepared for like a 12 hour show :> Also I am not certain at this point what type of comments to expect negative/positive when POE is announced, I imagine some of both, including perhaps a stab at the AP's/Me for stuffing the ballot box. Anticipating that comment I informed Joey, while still on the air and via e-mail that while I had encouraged AP's to vote for POE, I have also encouraged the list to vote the last two years when there was no POE to vote for, and that I regularly encourage the list members listen to the station. Well it must have been a fairly honest vote, or I think he probably would have burned me on air... OK so a great way to finish 1999 on the AP List, it's POE related, it's good news, we can look forward to POE's music perhaps being intorduced to new listeners world wide, and it's nice to know that in 5 years when some 15 year old kid is wandering around the WBER web site and they take a minute to see who were the top acts ever, POE will be in that list. Thanks to all of who participated in the vote and a nod to WBER because even with the strained relations, I seriously doubt there is a more "POE-centric" radio station in the world. Have a SAFE New Years Eve whatever you do... I will be in downtown Rochester NY for the explosions err.... I mean fireworks........ sp00k@poe.org irc.us.dal.net #poe #angry-psychos ICQ9934870 . ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 15:18:04 -0500 From: "sp00k@poe.org" Subject: NPR: Y2K Bug If you would like to view the results of a Y2K glitch visit www.philstar.com one of my favorite newspapers from the Philippines where the date and time is listed as Sat Jan 1 19100 Updated 0:15:3 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 22:16:03 -0800 From: "Chopsley: Rabid Bikini Model" Subject: happy fucking new years it's now 10:15 here in cali on the last day on the 1900s. from what i can tell by the other cities that have gone off, Y2K was just something made up by the media. i hate america. and so, canned food sales plummet......... max ============================== "Salvation is always a last minute thing." -- Lydia Lunch ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V4 #332 ***********************************
