It infuritates me. ****************************************** HAUNTED HOUSE SHUT BRIEFLY By the Associated Press (as printed in the Denver Post) SANTA FE, N.M.- A haunted house featuring a re-enactment of the Columbine school shootings was briefly shut down after sheriff's deputies confiscated two guns organizers had used as props. A judge on Thursday allowed The Potter's House Christian Center to re-open its haunted house as long as it agreed to remove the real guns and post extra security. Pastor Henry Houghton stressed that the guns had been used as props and that they were loaded with blanks. Houghton said that the church is using the Columbine skit, complete with earsplitting gunshots, to scare teens and others into accepting Jesus. ****************************************** The gun thing doesn't bother me, it's the last sentance that really set me off. First of all, I don't have to go to a haunted house to get a close up of the shootings. I got to sit at home, crying with my stepsister on April 20th, watching people I knew come running out of the school with friends. Watching it live, as it happened. Watching people my age, who live less than ten miles away from me go into shock, and hug each other, and cry. I watched as water from the sprinkler system, dyed red with blood, ran out the doors. I feel infuriated to think that someone would want to get even closer than that for a cheap thrill. Secondly, and most importantly, Jesus should not be scared into one's life. My own religious beliefs have wavered a lot over the last year. Right now, all I'm sure of is that there is a God, Christ walked the earth 2000 years ago, and if you're a good person who lives his life well, good things will find their way to you. The angry God of the old testament, the one that you should fear, was depicted in such a way because it was an appropriate way to communicate the necessities of a "holy" lifestyle to the people of the time in which it was written. Take for instance the Romans during the pre-christ era. They wandered around, drinking heavily, having orgies, and watching others die for their own enjoyment in arenas. I think that the proposition of following a kind deity who looked down on these things would not have appealed to them. However, the threat of their own lives and after lives would have gotten more attention. God should not be feared. Cassie Bernall went to my church youth group. I rarely attended the group, and have not gone for at least 10 months now, because I do not agree with their views on homosexuality. When I did go, I didn't know Cassie. I knew her by name, and could recognize her face, and probably played kickball with her a couple of times. I don't remember. But what I do know of Cassie is this: Cassie used to be a pagan witch. She was involved in Wicca and magick and witchcraft (none of which I believe to be evil, but that's beside the point). Then, Cassie started attending church. Cassie fell in love with God and with Jesus, not because she feared what her lifestyle would bring her in the afterlife, but because the Christian way felt good to her. Cassie felt a warmth with God in her life that she had never felt before. That's what God and Jesus should do. They should allow people to see the world in a different way. To appreciate all that has been given to them, and to live their life better every day because of their faith. I feel like a hypocrite writing this, but I thought it should be known. Please pass this on to anyone you think might like to ponder over it. - -Shawn Laura Bross Sr. @ Chatfield Sr. High, Littleton, CO ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Oct 1999 23:16:26 -0400 From: "Kelly Lesperance" Subject: NPR: Download Korn Single And Help Combat Child Abuse I found this over at the Korn website, everyone should check it out.. you get a free Mp3, and you can help some poor little kids out.. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey Fukkers!
