I know we have dabbled with this topic before, SPAM that is, I chose this time to say some words on SPAM because of a nice e-mail I received a bit ago. For those of you who are still not certain what SPAM is, a few words from Websters "unsolicited usually commercial E-mail sent to a large number of addresses" I get SPAM, and one of the reasons why is the fact that I have my full e-mail address on view sp00k@poe.org instead of just sp00k and it gets picked up while I use my web browser I'm willing to live with that in return for the kewl address, to an extent. Another potential source as was pointed out to me by one of the ISP's I complained to is that the mailing list has probobly been spamed due to the fact that all of the addresses are available via the web at http://www.smoe.org/lists so you see this is POE related. Now dont go bailing off of your mailing lists because there are plenty of other ways to make yourself a victim of spammers, such as owning a web page, which most if not all of us do. The reason I get into all of this SPAM talk is that I quite often hunt down the service provider of the person that spammed me, most of the time you get an automated response, often you get told that an account was shut down, but every now and then there is a little justice. Somebody was not only Spamming, but also Scamming me when they made an appeal for help for the "kids of East Timor" I contacted the Spammers ISP here is the response: > Let's go! > Official name: dialin152.edm.oa.net > > Addresses: 207.153.26.154 Account has been pulled, the user has been fined $500, and they got chewed out be several staff members. Turns out it was a "shared" connection for a small office lan. The owner of the workstation in question is probably looking for another job right now.
