Some other suggestions: Lisa Loeb VS Mazzy Star Suzanne Vega VS Ani Difranco Shirley Manson VS Gwen Stefani Tori Amos VS "Old School" Courtney Love You can break it down tournament style and have the champion face Poe for the title of MISTRESS OF GROOVE, Or just match Poe against each one. PS: I was kinda searching for name on that last one, but tried to make it fair by forgetting about Hole's latest album (still seems a little uneven though) Just something to ponder on from Psycho Rob _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It's a great compilation including Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, and Sonic Youth (but only on the cassette.) The articles inside the cover sum up my feeling toward the label of "Alternative Rock" quite nicely. I'm sick of people making totally undeducated assumptions about bands they don't know anything about. I was just reading what people were writing about silverchair (which by the way isn't capitalized, never was), and i respect the fact that some people just don't like silverchair, or their music, but i happen to think they're are extremely talented musicians (who are no longer little 15 yr. olds, which people tend to forget that they are 21 now) who are way underappreciated because people hear "Frogstomp" (their 1st album they made when they were ONLY 15 yrs. old) and assume they're the same music. they're not. They have found their own personal style, and have grown so much in the last 2 yrs. daniel johns's lyrics are amazingly well written (most people would see that is they would only listen with an open mind), his guitar riffs are great, ben gillies drum ability is great (he really gets into it), and chris joanou plays the bass with such enthuisiam. I've seen them 4 times in concert and will see them 2 more times in july (in vancouver and seattle), and all i can say is that anyone who would compare them to B*witched and the Spice Girls are very wrongly mistaken. They have obviously never been in a silverchair mosh pit, which is the harshest pit i've ever been in (and i've been in a lot), and are not little sluts who sell out to get tv ads and get more listeners. I cannot respect that comment at all, or anyone who would even say it. This happens so many times to other bands, not just silverchair, that it really isn't fair to the band members, and is just plain ignorant. We need to stop making assumptions about musical groups. once again, i'm saying that if u can honestly say that you've listened to the group u say u hate, and honestly don't like it, then that is completely ok, and u have every right. that's all i have to say. kendra daniel johns: "We don't care what people think. We play music because we love it. Screw 'em if they don't like it. Don't listen to us if u don't." ben gillies: "Teeny-boppers suck." chris joanou: hmmm, chris never really says much. he has "a 2 hour limit of talking a day" as he put it. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 12:41:00 EDT From: HapaBleu82@aol.com Subject: Re: No Alternative I have that cd.. Frankly they stink. Though I must say that their guitars are pretty good. Fairly uninspired but played well. It's the lyrics that bother me. Somehow I just can't imagine the youth of today rising up against . . . what oppression? Big Banks? That's it. Maybe it's cause I don't like them. Sarah McLachlan vs. Mazzy Star. I have to say that McLachlan would lose (hell, she wouldn't even fight). and Poe could kick both their asses. I'd like to see anyone take on D'arcy of the Smashing Pumpkins. She'd kick some ass. PJ Harvey could do some damage with those long nails of hers too. In regards to australian music. He's not REALLY australian (New Zealander) but Nick Cave is awesome. And no one ever blames him for causing violence among the youth! I wish they would . . . David E. Furlong "Dr.Zhivago! Someone sent me this "Family Values - Extra Value" CD, which is a collection of songs from various artists.. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Orgy, Powerman, Sevendust, and a bunch more.. most of it bands I've never heard of.. it's an interesting collection of music, probably too hardcore for most of the psychos.. but, anyway, Kidneythieves are kinda cool.. they've a song on here called "S+M (A Love Song)".. it's kind of a techno-industrial-metal cross thingy.. I dunno what to classify it as (then again, I never now how to classify music) but, this girl just sounds like she'd kick the crap outta anyone.. ohwell, I think I'm done babbling now.. :) > Ahhh silverchair . . . those cute little aussie rockers.
