I like Antichrist Superstar better but that's just me. Oh, and of course, track 8, smells like children (Got Milk?) But....the problems develop, i watched an interview with manson and he said his new glam rock look is reflective of a rebirth in himself. ok, so manson was reborn (didn't we already do this rebirth stuff last album? Manson: It's important for a band to change the image of the band or it becomes stale in today's society where the attention span is five seconds. There, done, end. that didn't require talking about all this silly rebirth and whatnot which is not believeable since everyone in the band looks the same and everyone in the band was not reborn with new found feelings. The whole ideal of rebirth has nothing to do with the rebirth in Antichrist Superstar. The "theme", if you will, is one of the popularity of drug use and rock and roll. "don't like the drugs, but the drugs like me". or "We're all stars now, in the dope show" It can't get any more obvious than that. And yes, they are all about marketing. Marketing to the the people who love to be on the edge of what is acceptable. Does everyone in the band really look the same? I mean, those guys change their looks every 4 months. To be quite honest, I like this new album much better as a whole. The theme is well planned and carried out. I don't necessarily like the man who makes the music, but I do love his music, because it hits hard what american life is like for us all....especially in this pre-millenium age of angst and fear. I am sending this to multiple lists so please forgive me if you get it more than once... If you would like to subscribe please send email to : siren_list@hotmail.com with subscribe in the subject line Siren is for discussion of any female musical artist. I started it as a reaction to lists where people got upset to see any mention of any other artist than the one the list was for. This is the place to make comparisons and recommendations, discuss influences of one artist on another, wonder if they've met, would like to do a duet, hate each other, etc., etc. This list is NOT for flaming or criticizing artists without reason. Any criticism must be logical (i.e. accompanied by a reason) and not childish (i.e. simply stating "She sucks" or "Who does she think she is?") Posts of this nature may not be sent and excessive posts may result in the offender being removed from the list. Please keep in mind that this is my first attempt at this; it may be rocky at first and any suggestions are welcomed. Please interact on the list and post often. If Siren doesn't work as hoped I will have to shut it down and we will have to go back to posting surreptitiously on other lists about our favorite artists. Finally, I got subscriptions to the list originally by posting to mailing lists. If you subscribe to any list for an artist that might be interested in this, please let me know by sending mail to siren_list@hotmail.com with "list" in the subject line. This list is sent in digest form only, once every day or every few days, depending on posts received. Hmm....I believe the same certain someone on this list gave me a hard time for asking about that Rise and Shine cd and being a "newbie". What's wrong with that? Isn't that what this list was for....you know, LEARNING about Poe? God forbid someone not "obsessively follow" every detail of an artists life. Afterall, isn't supposed to be about the music? I think everyoneis entitled to their opinion. Obviously since we all did not see the same interview as you did we can not correctly assume to know what manson said, just as no one will ever know what really goes through manson's head. Personally I think his "new look" is just Manson proving the fact that the only reason he says, sings, or does any of the things he does is because he enjoyes seeing teeny bopper MTV idiots (true not all of you are those, but there is only a 12% true manson fan population i think) jump at his every move and every crack of his proverbial whip. He probably sits around laughing at the way he has influenced so many in such a negative way. I may not like his music or agree with what he is saying, but I have a certain amount of respect (but not too much, don't worry) for Marilyn Manson for his intentions of leading all these people around by their - well, you get my point. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 22:08:47 -0400 From: "LAFF.ORG" Subject: Re: Poe Related: strange cd...(LAFF Update) Hello all, its been a while since LAFF.ORG posted; so i figured i would give you guys an update.
