People like to sing along to the radio. If i turn on the radio and I don't know the song, I'm going to change the station, especially when driving. I like to be able to sing along and identify what I'm listening to. (Jeremy Nailor from the BBC kicks butt) College radio stations can be very cool too, as well as comercial radio stations in small college towns aimed at college students. There is a station I can get from stillwater called the Spy that every once in a while will be very cool, but often times still can suck. They usually don't overplay songs, but lately they overplayed "Sun Screen" or whatever the name of the song was, mostly just becasue after they played it a few times around graduation it started getting all sorts of requests. oh yeah, last year I think they kind of overplayed Gus Gus. that is all Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 18:57:57 -0700 From: "sp00k" Subject: NPR:Own a TV Card? Get FREE Wireless Internet (WaveTop) Hey ppl I would like to let ya in on some technology that recently came to my attention. http://www.wavetop.net/ for more info or read on, this is way kewl, especialy if your tired of getting kicked off the phone, keep in mind you cannot send, only recieve. I wont have it running for a couple weeks yet as I need a newer TV Card, if you get it running let me KNOW. WaveTop is the first-ever free, advertising-supported nationwide data broadcast medium to deliver multimedia content - news, magazines, software and more - to the home via broadcast-ready PCs. Quite simply, WaveTop has partnered with PBS National Datacast to send Internet content over the vertical blanking interval (VBI) - the pause between the transmission of TV images - of PBS's television broadcasts. What does this mean to you? It means that if you have a PC equipped with a low-cost TV tuner, and if you are part of the 99% of the US who receives PBS via over-the-air antenna or cable, you will be able to get topnotch Internet content free - without slow connections and without tying up your phone line. Internet and online service content have reached the point where they are integral parts of our personal and professional lives. But slow connections have made the location and retrieval of quality content increasingly difficult, frustrating and time-consuming. The challenge facing online technology today is to find a method of providing select, meaningful content without taxing Internet connections. WaveTop's innovative VBI data broadcast service has met this challenge. By utilizing the existing space between frames in television signals (the vertical blanking interval), WaveTop is able to embed data into PBS's TV broadcasts. This then enables WaveTop to broadcast rich, multimedia content directly to any PC equipped with an inexpensive TV tuner and WaveTop software. Thanks to data broadcasting technology and WaveTop, all you need to do to get useful content is turn your computer on and let it gather information for you. WaveTop's data broadcast content is automatically saved to your hard drive, ready to use when you want it. Why data broadcasting? You get access to content from premium information providers, free of charge, to use when you're ready. You don't need to wait for slow Internet connections. You don't need to tie up your phone line. You just tune in and enjoy! With WaveTop's software you receive over 140 megabytes of information daily - all without ever going "online." Our WaveTop server goes to work every day, collecting the most current content to send to you. You just select the WaveTop content you want and allow your PC to receive the data broadcast in the background. WaveTop has partnered with premier content providers to deliver a broad range of content to you. Our Content Partners include: USA Today, Time Inc.
