Duh--I feel so stupid! The only book I've read more often than the "Iliad" (13 or 14) is, of course, the "Odyssey" (22). Must've thought I had Homer covered! The great thing about Homer is that he never gets old or wears thin. Each time I read either of his poems, I glean something new and something significant. With the (possible) exception of Shakespeare, I've never encountered another writer with such a keen understanding of what being human really means. The last book I read for leisure was called: "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer This book was about the expeditions on Mt. Everest that went awry back in May, 1996. If you want to see, or have seen the Imax film "Everest", READ THIS BOOK! I could not put the book down. I ended up reading it in about 10 straight hours. Wow. I then went and watched the Imax film a couple days later. The film is spectacular, and it does give some of the overall feeling on the mountain. The book paints a much more vivid emotional picture of what took place. This is well worth the read. Okay, thanks for reading, now go get the book! Don't let your schooling interfere with your education!! Mark Twain also said something like that, but I can't find the exact quote. Anyway, you should re-read The Adventure's of Huckleberry Finn; it's REALLY good. I read it for honors english this summer, and I STILL like it! I know what you mean about over analyzing and picking apart every word, but read it like it's a cheap romance and you'll love it. =) Jodie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 21:57:00 EDT From: TrAgICpITy@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR Skywalker ranch In a message dated 98-08-12 13:46:21 EDT, you write: << Anyone else really DISLIKE starwars? I would like to share a conversation that occurred between myself and one of the LOVELY psychos(I do not use that term lightly) in our group. I am PeachAcid, by the way. The initial conversation began with his HIGHNESS calling me stupid and fake and all. I wish you could see that part; it was incredibly entertaining. =) MalFumed: hark, i have returned. PeachAcid: Great. MalFumed: does it bother you when i insult you? PeachAcid: No, but it bothers me that someone of your great intellect cannot use the shift key. MalFumed: i think it does bother you MalFumed: i told you my shift key doesn't work. figure it out. PeachAcid: Why would it bother me that some random person wants to tell me I'm stupid, when he/she doesn't even know me? MalFumed: you seem to be quite agitated PeachAcid: I'm not, believe me. MalFumed: ok PeachAcid: I'm curious. Why did you decide to IM me? Was it JUST to tell me you think me to be DUMB? MalFumed: of course MalFumed: what else is there for me to converse with you about? MalFumed: you're on a lower level than i PeachAcid: So what college are you going to? MalFumed: i don't want to say because then you might be able to determine who this is and i don't want e-mail from you PeachAcid: I promise you that I will never knowingly e-mail you. MalFumed: hmm, ok. MalFumed: well, let's give you a challenge. PeachAcid: Fine. MalFumed: chester a. arthur (one of the fine presidents of the united states of america) was a member of the alumni PeachAcid: Chester A. Arthur was never a President. MalFumed: Ha! MalFumed: better check that fact love PeachAcid: What president was he? MalFumed: i don't know what number, it was during Reconstruction MalFumed: you do know what Reconstruction was, right? PeachAcid: Yes MalFumed: well that's a start! PeachAcid: The South had to do a bunch of stuff to be re-entered into the Union, like add amendments to each state's contitutions and stuff like that. MalFumed: ever ask a relative to skull fuck you? PeachAcid: No. MalFumed: ok PeachAcid: There was never a president by the last name of Arthur. MalFumed: and who told you that? PeachAcid: I don't remember reading or hearing about him. Charles A. Arthur? Let's see....there was Lincoln, then...Andrew Johnson(Jackson? I get them mixed up)....that would be 17th....then Grant was in there. MalFumed: go here bitch MalFumed: follow the link... MalFumed: LOL MalFumed: not as smart as you thought you were... MalFumed: still there dear? PeachAcid: He was only president for three years; he didn't do anything significant, and he's not even in the index of my book. However, I admit that I was wrong. I'm sorry. MalFumed: awww...be mad PeachAcid: I'm not mad. I'm glad to learn that there was an insignificant president who's name was Chester. MalFumed: awww.....insult him. PeachAcid: Who, like, went to your school or something. MalFumed: have you ever been president? MalFumed: no MalFumed: you haven't MalFumed: has your dad? PeachAcid: No. MalFumed: it's not exactly an easy title to achieve MalFumed: so shut the fuck up MalFumed: you're being a stupid little bitch MalFumed: as i had expected PeachAcid: Very good. Chester was Vice president under Garfield, and was only President because Garfield was assasinated. MalFumed: was he president? PeachAcid: He wasn't re-elected or anything. Garfield? PeachAcid: Who? MalFumed: was arthur president? PeachAcid: Yes. After Garfield. PeachAcid: 21st MalFumed: did you say there was no president named chester arthur? MalFumed: (the only reason you know he was 21st is because i informed you you stupid bitch) MalFumed: i have spoken enough about this subject. i want you to e-mail the entire poe list and tell them what an idiot you are. PeachAcid: Mmm....I said that was never a president by the last name of Arthur. I then corrected myself. I admitted I was wrong. MalFumed: blah MalFumed: subject gone. PeachAcid: Fine, go ahead, tell them how incredibly idiotic I am. PeachAcid: Go ahead. MalFumed: no no... MalFumed: i want you to do that. MalFumed: don't mention my name or this conversation MalFumed: simply say, "I am so incredibly stupid! Please delete all mail from me." PeachAcid: Why would I do that? Why don't you want your name mentioned? MalFumed: don't question me. i am a superior intelligence you can't possibly understand my motives PeachAcid: Shouldn't there be some sort of punctuation between intelligence and you? MalFumed: nah MalFumed: no time PeachAcid: Oh, I see. MalFumed: now get on the e-mail PeachAcid: Okay, I'll be right back. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 17:54:58 -0700 From: "Tammie McClung" Subject: Re: Movies, TV, Books - oh my! there IS something wrong with the universe. - -- On Wed, 12 Aug 1998 14:58:26 Asuka Jenius wrote: > > >hi-ya! i thought this listing faves might as well be my introduction :) > >none of these lists are in any order whatsoever : >Movies : >Aliens >Breakfast at Tiffany's >Contact >The Empire Strikes Back >The Little Mermaid >Tommorrow Never Dies (it's a Michelle Yeoh thing) >The Americain President > >TV : >the new Star Treks (i just wasn't born when the first came out - sorry!) >ER >Caroline in the City >*and from across the ocean: >Macross 7 >Neon Genesis Evangelion >Kodomo no Omacha >Sailor Moon > >Books : >The Scarlett Letter >The Last Unicorn >almost anything by Anne McCaffery >To Kill a Mockingbird > >you'd think i was mainstream but...i'm really not. >teehee >*Asuka >---------------------------------------------------------------------- > *Asuka Jenius : Live Action Anime Girl > guvava@hotmail.com > http://members.tripod.com/~newtgirl > > "...if there's nothing wrong with me; > there must be something wrong with the universe." > > > >______________________________________________________ >Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com > get your free gURLmAIL at http://www.gURLmAIL.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 19:42:21 PDT From: "MistressOf Nosferatu" Subject: *npr* Favorite Movies I agree with steve...
