First, I don't think all covers are bad. The Smashing Pumpkins have done some decent covers of The Cure and Blondie. I like many remade songs. However there are many covers that just should not have happened. EVER. The Wallflowers slaughter of The Sacred Bowie's Heroes. Also a god awful disco version of The Sacred Aladdin Sane's The Jean Genie. Many, many others come to mind but most of them have been mentioned. I will leave this subject with a few parting words. No, Billy. NO! and why I, even though I like many remixes, covers, etc. I am still wary of them. Two words poeple (sic): PUFF DADDY. Makes me wanna throw up. David E. Furlong, Bowie is God "If you have to stop and think if something is a good idea it probably isn't. Stop. Then do it anyways." -words to lose fingers by ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1998 06:55:52 -0700 (PDT) From: GrunGGae Subject: NPR: Re: Any More From INDIANA? > i am form the korn state, indiana. > what college are u going to ? > Me too, actually. Adamanty opposed to the notion that covers are usually better than the originals!! Although, I am probably older than most of you, which means you may not have ever even HEARD the original of "I Will Survive" when it was a huge single. For me, knowing the originals, is that younger people hear a cover, don't necessarily know it's a cover, then assume it's a new song! I love the bass-line in Cake's version, but hands down pefer Gloria Gaynor's original. I do, however, *LOVE* Cake's "The Distance". My 2 cents... PeaceLove&Grace, +m ~ : ) P.S. The best artists are constantly collaborating with legends, so why not collaborate through remakes. Cake, Puffy, and Poe have done covers that make me look back at the original artist and see the quality of what they created. Covers are cool, to an extent! P.S. I would have liked Poe to have done a song with Frank Sinatra. Like "Fingertips" or something.
