Sings cover songs. can she... do justice to singing something by Janis? I happened to see some of "Janis" and I was thinking that Poe could probably pull off doing a few cover songs by Janis Joplin. Anyone care to comment on this? Am I way out of line here? I know Poe has done covers before... would she give this a shot? Personally, I think that Janis and POe have their own seperate vibe....And I also think that Janis's was so unique and monumental, no one, not just POe should copy or remake her music. It is sacred. It's Janis Joplins music...to have some one copy it is totally the wrong answer. Same goes for someone copying POe. Wrong answer. Don't mess with some thing that is already perfection. I mean, if you're covering a song that already hit it big and is popular, then, well, I don't think that's real bright, but most of the covers I know of are covers of songs that weren't very well-known or popular, and the cover of that song became popular, and possibly inspired more people to check out the original. (I'm sorry, I don't think that made much sense. Let's try again.) In my opinion, if you're covering a popular song that has already hit it big, then that's worthless. The song is already popular, let it alone. (Don't mess with perfection.) But if you're covering a song that wasn't that well-known or popular, you may be doing it a favor. The cover of that song may inspire more people to check out the original. Examples: Natalie Imbruglia, "Torn" (originally done by Ednaswap), Ace of Base, "Don't Turn Around" (done by LOTS of people...it was even a reggae song at one point), and many more I can't think of. Hopefully you understood some of that, hehe. :) == Shanna Hollich Shadow123@poe.org http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Sands/7738 Shadow123 on IRC _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? "Brand New Key" and "Why Dont you Do Right". they're covering "You DOnt own me" by leslie gore on their new album (august 4th...woofuckinhoo!). and polly harvey doing "is that all there is?" is about the cutest damned thing i've ever heard. but i really dont like most covers. Wallflowers crucifying Bowie. ug. and natalie imbruglia trying her best to sound exactly like the lead singer of ednaswap when she performs "torn" live (well, either the ednaswap chick or alanis, it doesnt matter) ;). and leann rimes is the worst. seems like the little brat only covers songs that were recorded withing the past year. i think if an artist wants to cover a song, they should have something special to bring to the song. they shouldn't try to sound like the original artist (duh), which is what most coverers (um...you know what i mean) do. which brings us to Poe. i think she could get away with covering anything:) hehehe. Oh one more thing. i was listening to Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville and my friend asked me if it was Poe. i was like "uh...NO". she said their voices sound exactly alike. what do you all think of that? :p ok, i've rambled long enough toriniss, steve "The cross has been used as a weapon, as it has been used against all women throughout the ages.
