Im adding a warning to this right now because its REALLY frickin long. I went to the third lilith show on july 8th at Pine Knob music theatre. i had crappy lawn seats so i wasnt expecting much, especially since the year before i had yummy pavillion seats. well. godDAMN, it turned out to be one of the best concerts i've ever been to! and here's why: the second stage fucking rocked. the pine knob second stage is really small and you can get as close as you want. Imani Coppola is a goddess (and if you arrange the letters in her name you get I Poop In A Clam *mad props to PopUpVideo* ;). she came out in a flourescent green wig and green faerie wings. her makeup was green and pink and she had the clunkiest boots on. anyways, the power went out and she was hilarious about it. she meditated jokingly and told us to shout out that "aliens had brought us here!" and then just decided to do an acoustic song. her performance was outstanding. imani is Divine. then we went back to our lawn seats. the lawn was packed. there was 15000 people there that day. and it rained the day before so the wetniss seeped through our blankets. everyone was walkin around with wet asses all day:). tracy bonham came out and she was pretty cool. she played some new stuff which is more centered around her violin and it sounded good. i couldnt really see her...or hear her too well because all the people around me were chatting. anyways, so we went back to the second stage to see what i considered the main attraction: Heather Nova. *Sigh*. she was just amazing. she played for about 35 minutes and i was in total ecstasy. after coming out of my catatonic stage, i went back to my lawn seat (um...i couldnt even find it it was so crowded, but these nice girlys would always wave). anyways, me'shell ndegeocello came out and i didnt really watch her (um, i couldnt even see her, there was a pavillion pole in the way!) while we were sitting there flipping through pamphlets, these girls next us began to scream and got up and ran down the hill (which is not an easy thing when there are 13000 people crammed in an area meant for like 5000). we were a tad confused, but then we noticed a green wig coming up the sidewalk...it was imani! my cousin and i got up and ran down the hill...we ended up colliding with the girls next to us and we all fell over and landed on some poor lady (anyone see the movie Clue? it was kinda like the scene on the staircase). it was hilarious. so anyways, i got to meet imani, she kicked ass, i got her autograph too. it was great. then i decided i had to go find (stalk) heather nova. we found her randomly mingling in the tower records booth with some crew people, i got her autograph and talked to her for awhile. she was SO cool. i am so mad that i didnt bring a camera...i just figured they would search us as usual...or at least look in our bags...but they didnt! so after that i had to sit down. ;). i paid a shitload of money for some food. then we walked around to all the little booths and signed about 30 petitions. that felt really great. i even donated to RAINN and got a neat little RAINN keychain:). lots of free sarah stuff too. posters, postcards, coca cola flavoured condoms;), etc. the village this year was definitely better than last year. so, we went back to our wet spot (by now we were sitting on our programs because the wetniss seeped through the jackets we were sitting on). and bonnie raitt came on. um. she was actually really really boring. we flipped through our "You know your man is doing dope when..." and our other pamphlets. the highlight of this performance was definitely when sarah mclachlan and tracy bonham came out. ok, so...for the rest of the show...natalie merchant and sarah mclachlan's performance...hmmm. well, lets just say that i went from those gross muddy seats all the way to the pavillion. second row. center. (im not going to tell how...it was really quite feindish of us...lets just say it involved a 40 yr old woman sitting on my lap). ANYWAYS. i was 5 feet away from sarah mclachlan. i could have touched her. it was amazing. natalie was good to. she's quite a character, really carefree and sincere. her new songs are pretty good, and she had me'shell do back up on Kind and Generous. ophelia wasa really powerful performance. Sarah was just beautiful. i have seen her a few other times, but never so close. however, i think she may have still been ill that night (she missed a show a few days before that due to food poisoning). anyways, she was still great and it was so weird to scream "I love you sarah!!!" but this time get a response from her. she looked down at me and winked and smiled. it was so great to be so close. sarah only did surfacing songs though...with the exception of her usual Possession, and Ice cream and then Wait (that one was a big surprise!) she only played for about 40 minutes though...i really dont think she was feeling too well. anyways, at the end, everyone came out and sang and danced. it was great. everyone in the audience sang and danced along with them. the song was Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". it was happy. everything should end with a song and a dance. (sorry...Labrynth is coming back to haunt me from my childhood) so, a day that wasnt supposed to be a big deal for me turned out to be really really wonderful. yeah, so i may have missed tracy, meshell, and bonnie, but i got to be within arms reach of the ladies i went there to see: imani, heather, nat, and sarah. :) holy shit. that was long. sorry!;) toriniss, steve PS- its back to the knob on thursday...b52s and the pretenders..80s night! woohoo!:) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 12:33:24 -0400 From: "D. Bereda" Subject: NPR:My oh my, the weather's been nice... Hey APs: Someone mentioned that there hasn't been much activity on the list lately. Here in Dayton the weather has been great lately; but now its raining so I'm back sitting in front of the computer! I went to the Lilith Fair show in Columbus, Ohio a little over a week ago. The entire day was great, up until Sarah McLachlan got sick and was unable to perform her set. Sinead O'Conner caused a bunch of rumors by jokingly saying that hopefully Sarah was sick due to pregnancy. Sarah has said in interviews that she would like to take time off after the tour and maybe have a baby, but she was actually sick that night due to food poisoning. Maybe I'll try to catch the Lilith Fair again when it comes to Cincinnati. My mom has this theory about concerts-- get there an hour late and nobody cares. ew. so i missed jabber and deni bonet, whoever they are. oh well. anybody know what they sing? so I saw imani coppola (sp?) sing the 2nd to last song and legend of a cowgirl, which was pretty cool live. she was wearing a neon green wig and a black outfit and neon green wings. then i went back to the blanket and sipped warm coke and saw garrison starr. wow she's cool live. i heard the 2nd to last song which is like "i'm a girl don't you love me" i think unless i'm getting songs mixed up. then she sang superhero which sounds good live too, but pretty much like the one on the album. i got her autograph!!!!! she was like what's your name and i was like sarah coz i didn't wanna say tobias, and i said how great her album was and she said bless you child. that sorta freaked me out, one of my favorite singers just blessed me...i treked back to the blanket and saw tracy bonham. i missed the first song (anybody catch it?) and the rest were good. 2 new songs from her upcoming fall album. something like trails of the dust devil. then i saw heather nova, who has a damn powerful voice, (aka loud) and then back to the blanket for missy elliot, indigo girls, natalie merchant, and sarah mclachlan. yes they sang water is wide (i.g. sarah and tracy bonham) and it was cool, except for my mom swaying like a dork (and looking angrily at the people behind us who were screeching the words). sarah mclachlan didn't do anything new, and i was pissed that she didn't sing ice. but elsewhere was sooo cool, i was crying and i don't know why, but the most applause out of all the songs was 'adia', which was kinda dumb. if anybody wants the full setlists of all i heard, i have them at home (i'm at the library), so email me and i'll type em out for you. nothing spectacular, but it was my 1st concert and i liked it. :o) _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I have the opportunity to go to all the New England dates of the Lilith Fair (Aug. 10 thru Aug. 15). I have some reservations though... There is this stereotype about Lilith Fair, about it being a femi-nazi, sensitive artist kinda place. I had room mate that is the stereotypical "sensitive artist" and she really turned my off to this sort of music simply through her angry attitudes about anyone that was not a lesbian. Is the crowd really that men-hating?... I just don't know about going to a show and having to deal those kinds of negative attitudes, even if I am a woman and it's not directed at me. Also, is anyone going to any of the shows in Hershey, Mansfield or Canada? I am not familiar with any of the smaller stage artists save Abra Moore. Can anyone tell me about any of the artist? I'm looking forward to it "cause I am going to drive from San Francisco to Hershey and then catch up with Abra. The tickets are from her agent as a birthday present! What a way to start out the year! But it really is a long drive (about 3days?) and the only artists that I know of are Abra, Sarah, and L.Jackson Lilith Fair fans help please, ~Veronica ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 18:08:45 -0700 From: cerceniteshade@juno.com (Erin E Wilson) Subject: can't think of subject... ok, I'm just "introducing myself" I guess... so here's the info....
