Our society is headed down a horrible path. We don't take the time to listen to people and then decide if they are right or wrong. We are becoming a breed of people who are so easily swayed by the media that we don't think any longer. We judge people long before we have all the information. I want to encourage everyone to play yourself on an equal playing field with everyone. Say to yourself each time you talk to someone new that you are equals. Then, after a period of time, decide if that person is higher or lower than you. Use your heads to decide if you should be rude to someone. If you're going to harass someone make sure you have a full understanding of the situation and don't ever believe that you're important. There are lots of people on this earth and one person doesn't mean too much to too many people. Don't get self-righteous. Never commit that sin. All that will provide is the ability to turn away from people with your snobbish attitude. I have lived this life. I tell people exactly what I think of anything they have said (Honesty is Good) then I carefully listen to their response to see if I was wrong in what I said. too often we do not listen to the responses. We don't take time to understand each other. We never think that perhaps we did not understand what someone said. Dear Angry Psychos, Hello! I just jumped on board this morning. That Spreading the Intelligence post was the first one I saw. YIKES!!! I'm on a Jellyfish E-mail list and have been for about 2 years. Although the post I read was semi-harsh, it was nothing compared to the battles I've viewed and experienced. People will be people. Go figure. Anyway, here I go : 1. My name is Adam Robinson (+m) 2. I was born in and live in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. 3. I'm currently 28 (born 02-05-70) ~ Aquarius!! 4. I first heard "Trigger Happy Jack" on the big alterna-crap station here in Portland. After calling and finding out who it was, I went to a local retailer and listened to segments of the "Hello" disc, but couldn't afford to buy it. Found the CD-single through mail order, very inexpensively, and loved the remixes too. Finally, bought "Hello". *LOVED* the entire thing!! She's one of my favorite female artists. 5. others I dig? Jellyfish, Holly McNarland, Abra Moore, NIN, ABC, Imperial Drag, Concrete Blonde, Two, Jason Falkner, JEFF BUCKLEY!!!, Steely Dan, Led Zep, Adrian Belew, King Crimson, Cult, Enuff Z'Nuff, Faith No More, Breeders, Pixies, Juan Garcia Esquivel, Prince, Mother Love Bone, Nirvana, Dead Can Dance, Alice In Chains, Loreena McKennitt, and the list goes on and on and... 6. I'm a singer, drummer, guitarist, bassist, and I also play some keyboards. I love Teletubbies, Bad Badtz Maru, Phil Hartman, Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap too!), 70's stuff, records, CDs, concerts, autographs, David Lynch film, "Santa Sangre" (foreign film), my girlie Angel, and recreational (occasional) unmentionables. : ) Oh, and beer and scotch are pretty important too. I'm vegetarian also. I roll my own cigarettes, and smoke a clove occasionally. Okay, I'll shut up nw. When's Poe's new album due out? Why doesn't the Atlantic site even mention that "Rise & Shine" has been released as a single in the discography section? This sounds like an exaggeration to me. I've met lots of very good people, that aren't headed down a horrible path, and I really don't think society as a whole is heading there. But, this is my opinion. Xeno's opinion differed from mine....he/she is still intitled to their own opinion, however, and I keep reading, with an open mind. > We are becoming a breed of > people who are so easily swayed by the media that we don't think any longer. > We judge people long before we have all the information. Ok, he just judged society as a whole in the beginning of his e-mail when he presumably doesn't have all the information (I mean, does he know everyone living in today's society? Has he witnessed society as a whole? I wouldn't think so....but I could be wrong.) >I want to encourage > everyone to play yourself on an equal playing field with everyone. Say to > yourself each time you talk to someone new that you are equals. Then, after a > period of time, decide if that person is higher or lower than you. Ok, once again, I disagree...not saying that anyone is right or wrong here, I would just like to state my opinion. I don't believe that anyone is "higher" or "lower" than anyone else....God created us all as His children, and He loves us the same no matter who we are or how we act. >Use your > heads to decide if you should be rude to someone. Maybe, unknowingly, involuntarily, unconsciously, but still. Then again, since I don't know Xeno, I will not judge him (I wouldn't even if I DID know him.....*ahem* *ahem*). Ya know, I'm beginning to think that I should check my e-mail more often, in order to be up-to-date with these things...would someone like to come to Pennsylvania and work for me?? :P j/k. Anyway, I hope this clears up a lot of things, and Xeno, I'm very sorry for any trouble my brother (or now, me) may have caused you. == Shanna Hollich Shadow123@poe.org http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Sands/7738 _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? No one is perfect, no one will ever walk on water. Maybe i'm in a pissy mood and this one set me off, and Shanna (i believe that's yr name) i have had the same thing happen to me but by a total stranger, i know how it feels and you need to ignore the hypocrits. they're everywhere, even the most nonjudging falls into that category at times. No one can go against it, i could prove it with philosophy but i have a major headache and i dont have exact quotings with me. It' all comes down to one thing--human nature and the inborn style of humans. If some one has got a problem with you, then ignore them and let the realise later if they are willing to admit to their shortcoming in being that way. you can't control others, and you cant judge a society as a whole, only truly yourself... im not big on religion but didnt God say something like not casting down a person for sins w/o having never sinned? carol ps. i am not taking side at all. i just think people should think more about what is going on in this situation... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jun 1998 19:13:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Jon Bell Subject: Re: NPR: Spreading The Intelligence Xeno now has a history of saying things that stir up the newsgroup. Now that he's gotten it stirred, everyone ask yourself a question: should you post to everyone, or write to particular people and tell them your views? I see this as a brand new form of NPR. Everyone talking and relating about .... favorite foods, for instance - you can argue that we're all angry psychos and that you want to hear everyone's favorite food. But this latest garbage is trying to prove people wrong. As thought provoking as it is, it's the prototype for THINGS THAT SHOULD BE SENT IN PRIVATE EMAIL. I don't care what you think of the new Smashing Pumpkins, although a lot of people do, so NPRs are ok. But I *also* don't care what you think about society, Xeno. In addition, I'm not sure anyone else does. All you've done in your last few posts is get people to disagree with you. Love? Friendship? Intelligent Discourse? should i leave? I could make a "Xeno11z@hotmail.com" just as easily as Xeno's obviously done with my address.
