Specifically, I am trying to find out if there is a way to go to some days of the festival and/or to see certain bands without buying the pass for all five days. I sent e-mail to the organizers for info but haven't heard back yet. If you have gone, please e-mail me privately. I went in 1996, and it was great. However, I worked for a radio station in Austin at the time, and fot 2 free armbands.. THere are certain shows that you can buy tickets at the door for (they say this for every show, but it isnt true) but they are rare, and the people paying only get in if people with passes or armbands arent filling the place up (for the true SXSW shows, more on this in a sec) There are some shows that are laminate only (I went to see For Squirrels at Emos and couldnt get in because I only had an armband, no laminate) There are other shows, non SXSW related going on at the same time, often at venues right next to SXSW venues, such as the Black Cat, which does not participate, and never books bands that have played SXSW. (They have a mini festival called South By So What) I highly recommend going, but if you do, it's worth paying the big bucks, because with a laminate you have first dibs on shows(provided it isnt full) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 16:39:05 -0700 (MST) From: "POE.ORG" Subject: POE on the Billboard Singles Chart So everybody knows...
