I'm behind it full force ... but maybe each person's vote would mean more if everyone wrote a little something about it.. rather than: These people want Poe at the fair: person guy dude gal toots eddie vedder ernie bert it could be more personal, like Jragon: I didn't get to make it to the Lilith fair last year, but really regret it now. What I do know is that the Lilith fair has proven itself already as being *possible* and *profitable* so the second year is very important as a year to raise the bar. Honestly, if the same lineup was announced PLUS all the people that are rumored to be joining this year, I know a lot of people that wouldn't just support the tour - they'd actually "go on tour".. (grateful dead and phish - style) .. like follow the whole thing. Women are truely making a fuss in recent years, but 98 offers a chance to make history. Take a good thing and make it better - and as for the cllaims that the fair is too light and acoustic, that's exactly where POE comes in. POE's intensity in concert not only reaches out to all types, but it also proves that a woman really CAN rock - not just strumming a guitar in a dress passivly, but get the whole crowd groovin ... POE's style and grace blending all different types of music together into something that's truly unique is what Lilith should be based on next year. Women don't have to be catogorized into one kind of music. Let skeptics see Poe open with "that day" (chill) and break into "cherry" (crazy) without missing a beat and the skepticm will surely shatter. Women have been here, women are here, and now Poe's going to take it one step further ... hopefully with the help of Lillith. (fwd) like the subject says, this was written yesterday...you know, it's funny how, sometimes, you are writing something in a letter to someone, and you don't realize, at that moment, exactly what it is that you are writing...you don't always realize that it is a start of SOMETHING. it is in retrospect that you see what it is... ...but that may not be saying too much, as retrospection is a very very good friend of mine... REMEMBER: as per the usual, I request truthful, brutal honesty as per the style of or emotion in my poem...(aka no flames from someone saying "oh you have an ego" or any of that b**lsh*t) ...anyways, here it is... My Particular Excellence by Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos The colors which have revealed actual definitions in my life are many: some are deep, rich, some sad, melancholic, alone...some enigmatically rejoiceful...olive green, wine, that color of blue between a rich royal blue and navy blue which can be found at that time when the resting sunset sky is metamorphosing into the deep vibrant life-giving night sky, dark browns, red-orange hues. Plum purple. I have heard the chants which no one else has heard in the sound of a sad viola, the only sound surpassed in woe by the mourning words of Anna Akhmatova, in the sway of a willow tree, in the space between Nabakov's letters forming spaces between his words, ultimately forming the spaces between his sentences. Very few people know this, but the Lamentations sung on Holy Friday are really memorials to the part of me which has been weighed down by the years, having been layered with the shrouds of necessary strength and exhausted fighting and reserving so little for myself, barely enough to get me going to help others as much as possible. I insisted. He agreed blindly, as he always does. Instead of exchanging hollow Christmas gifts, I pooled my scraps of money with his ATM findings to purchase food for people with whom I once shared cement. 1998 came with fireworked-tears of the woman who stands on the corner and toothless-rejoicing from the blind man whose hand is perpetually held out. Some people try to force a crown on my head. I delicately place it on theirs, for it is the carefree dances and skips, the light-shouldered laughter, which they share with me that allows my feet to find homes on the ground day after day, rather than resting them on warm mattresses. Wonder? Grandeur? This is my particular excellence. If you must call it that.
