AP LOVE Magan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 22:46:23 EST From: Gabri Kn Subject: Poe at Lillith 98??? Here's something i've been noticing in the papers at the end of the year: The talk of music tours for this year was definitley the Lillith Fair, brining in the most cash of all the summer tours this year. Still as good as the tour was, critics as well as musicians have been ranking down on the tour a little, pretty much stating that the way Sarah set the tour up it wasn't representing all of the women in music and more importantly it wasn't representing a great deal of styles since it was mostly acoustic and lighter performers In response I've heard rumors that Sarah plans on changing things around this year to bring in all different styles of women in music. For one there was a special Lilith Show last month in Florida who's performers varied from this summers. Along with Sarah, Sheryl Crow, and the Indigo Girls returning from the original lineup, also featured in the show was producer Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot, K's Choice, Kacy Crowley, Letters To Cleo, Ana Gasteyer and Chantal Kreviazuk. Certainly far from what Lilith had in the begging, but a welcome change So while Sarah is shopping around for her choices in performers in the next few months, does anybody think there may be a possibility that our lady Poe will be one of the artists that may be considered to join fair Lillith for the summer? Send me some responses and tell me what you think ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 19:37:52 -0800 From: dlouie3@lausd.k12.ca.us Subject: ap pix thing ok, i'm new and this is my first time posting so here goes: I like the idea of an AP photo thing and all but what about all of us unlucky people (if there are any others) who don't have a scanner? (in my > opinion) ... and it's not even that the remake is THAT bad. it's > just that the original is a classic and it'll be clouded over by > the damn remake. I agree. As a somewhat-related aside, some friends of mine have a band (which opened for Poe back in March, just to make this a little more poe-related), and they covered the Portishead song "Sour Times". Although I love the originial, I also really like the remake. But there are a lot of Portishead fans who would hate the new version (it's much faster, and less trip-hoppy). That doesn't make one version better than the other, though. I think the main point I'm getting at, though, is that I wouldn't have "understood" or "appreciated" the new remake of the song without knowing what the original was like, and I think that many of the people who hear Alana's song on the radio won't recognize it, won't know it's an Ani song, and may *never* hear the original. Which is a shame. The other side to this story is that Ani's fans are incredibly protective of her, not because she needs the protection but because we all love her so much -- both her music and her as a person. So we hate to see her not get credit for something she deserves to get credit for, and writing a wonderful song is definitely noteworthy! I'm pretty sure brett (flickergrl@aol.com) would be more than happy to scan a photo, knowing how she's been kinda scanner happy lately.. and I'll be able to scan soon.. (fingers crossed) so people without scanners can send us photographs (that probably won't be returned keep in mind.. well i guess they could if you sent a SASE with em,..) and we'll scan for them and put the pictures up.. :) I have pictures of a lot of the AP's from Richmond and Dc last year, but I dunno how many of them are still AP's..
