I just got into Ani DiFranco more seriously recently, and I was like.. hold on one @##^$$! second here.. those lyrics sound oddly like Ani DiFranco... It pisses me off... Just because Ani DiFranco isn;'t on some major record label that pays people to play their songs, doesn't mean she doesn't deserve some recognition in the music industry.... I think Ani DiFranco is one of the artists to be greatly respected for how she goes about her music... she's not out there signing million dollar deals and playing music to get rich and in the spotlight... it seems she loves her music (as do I) She's a lot like Poe in my eyes...I think a lot of the female musicians are split into two groups... and this is only my opinion, please don't let it start a flame war, cause it ain't worth commenting on.... but anyways, I think they're split into two groups.. one with Poe and Ani DiFranco and a few others, and then Alanis Morrisette and Jewel and others.... I dunno... I guess it seems to me that Poe and Ani DiFranco have more 'real' songs... songs that seem to have more meaning to me as a listener.. I'm not going to bash or discredit Alanis or Jewel or anyone, because like I said they are different types of music in my eyes... for example, I love the music of some groups, but they have no emotions or meanings tied to them for me.... alright, well I just wanted to express my thoughts to everyone, cause hey... that's what a mailing list is for most of the time... don't let this get into a Jewel is better than Ani DiFranco thing or something.. I'm already sorry I mentioned Manson (please let it go or take it to personal email)... If you have anything intelligent to say, open up your mouth and let it rip... thanks.. Ed ed@poe.org aspened@aol.com In a message dated 97-12-31 15:05:08 EST, you write: << ok, so there's this talented artist named Ani DiFranco. maybe you've heard of her. ;) and there's this great cd she put out; called "Not a Pretty Girl" perhaps you've seen it in the stores.. and there's this wonderous sweet song called 32 flavors... and it's really really good. (the live version on "living in clip" aint that good) ... I for one love it. -- so there's this *other* girl comin' along with a debut album and she mangled 32 flavors. (I think, anyway) and the saddest thing is that Ani still isn't really on Mtv or the radio, yet this new girl frigs up a great song and maintains just enough words to make it sound good (like it was intended to be) and now she's a rising star.. supposedly. anyone else cringe when they hear the new version? I heard Ani talk about it in concert, if anyone wants to hear, she said some pretty funny stuff. -jon >> ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 23:12:21 +0000 From: radiof@pop.pipeline.com Subject: Holiday PATCHES NOW! hello, I am back i made cool Patches again they are on this cool cloth, (red, with x-mas trees and other stuff) Also does anybody know if you can still send Poe stuff at modern, or know a better address please e-mail me it so i can send them a bunch of patches well if you want a patch please send $1 and a SASE to: Neeraj PO BOX 361 glen head ny 11545 if you dont want to send a $1 dont just send a stamp. seeya ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Jan 1998 21:19:10 PST From: "Angry Psycho" Subject: POE on the radio (HELLO and RISE AND SHINE) To my surprise, there are actually FIVE radio stations around here in Oregon that play POE. Two that play her all the time are 95.3 KNRQ in Eugene and KNRK 94.7 (http://www.knrk.com). Three other stations have dance mix shows... 107.5 KBBT (The Beat) plays Hello occasionally on their "Beat Blend" and 104.7 KDUK plays her every saturday night on the "Saturday Night Hot Mix"... 100.3 KKRZ (Z-100) says that that there is a 99% chance of playing "Rise and Shine" when it becomes available... their heart is open to that sort of thing. Please help me petition them though... their web page is at http://www.z100portland.com and they have a section for requests... they've set precidents in music nationwide (Including being responsible for the famous "Jerry Maguire Mix" of the song "Secret Garden" by Bruce Springsteen. Their morning show is the most listened to show in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. (Any other Oregon or Washington AP's listen?) Help get more POE on the radio... KNRK broadcasts on the 'net and you can request songs from anywhere... the link's on their page. ~jason The future is a slut.
