BEST Albums of 1997- 1. Veruca Salt "Eight Arms To Hold You" 2. Fig Dish "When Shove Goes Back To Push" 3. Poe "Hello" (it came out in '95 , but oh well) 4. Artificial Joy Club "Melt" 7. Souls "Bird, Fish or Inbetween" 6. Letters To Cleo "GO!" The albums I'm really looking forward to in 1998 is Poe's new one (of course, and I can't wait to see her again!!!) and the new one from the Breeders thats due out next spring. I think 1997 sucked for movies, the only good one in my opinion was A Life Less Ordinary. Did anyone else see this??? I don't think anyone did....but it was soooo good, like nothing else I had ever seen. When I went to see it a few days after it came out there was nobody there, and it was only playing in 2 theaters in the entire city of Dayton. =( Soo, just thought I'd share. I don't see anything really remarkable in it, but whatever.. Hard to believe it's almost a YEAR since this one came out... This, I believe, was the article that made me go, "Oh, so THAT'S the Angry Johnny person... MUST... BUY... CD..." and here we are. POE The singer's daring disc, awesome style and killer stage presence will blow you away. Poe's birth certificate says she's Annie Danielewski, but the 25-year-old singer has been called Poe for so long that it might as well be her real name. (That's what can happen when you grow up obsessing over Edgar Allan Poe's poetry.) Even Poe's mom, who says her daughter was a "little poet" from the first time she opened her mouth, calls her Poeski. Today the "little poet" is a tall, awesome-looking rock star. It all started last spring, when Poe's debut disc, Hello, was released and her first single, "Trigger Happy Jack" ("You can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being") rocked alternative radio. Now, of course, you can't surf the airwaves without hearing "Angry Johnny," Poe's haunting hit ballad. And if you check out concert listings, Poe and her tireless band are probably performing an all-ages show at a club near you. "I'm really comfortable waking up in a different city every day," says Poe, who lived all over the world with her parents and her brother until her mom and dad split up when she was 16. After that she ended up settling down in her native New York City. That's where "I really started to get into my muxic," she says. Then Poe landed a full scholarship to Princeton University, where she began recording and writing a lot of the music on Hello. "When I first started out, I couldn't afford a band, so I recorded different instruments by myself with sampling machines." Now she's got the band-and the killer show. Poe shouts to everyone through an electronic megaphone and stage-dives into her fans' arms. Afterward, she usually hangs out and makes friends with the audience. See the necklace and the hair extentions she's wearing in the picture? They're tokens of appreciation from girl fans around the country. Getting famous isn't exactly a drag, and Poe admits it. But there's one occupational hazard she says she can't deal with: the "angry young woman" stigma that she shares with fellow female rockers like Alanis Morissette and Tracy Bonham. "I have happy, sad, and and angry songs on my album," Poe explains. "Women don't have just one emotion- we're much more complex than that." We couldn't agree more. - -Sophie Knight Well, that was refreshing... Guess what... I think my friend Molly might be headed for Angry Psycho-dom!! One night she was sleeping over and said she couldn't fall asleep; it was too quiet. So I put Poe on... Now she is hunting all over for the CD and visiting Poe.org... I think she is getting an obsession... It's in the beginning stages.. that would rule if she did... Anyway, that article's probably everywhere anyway and it doesn't say a whole lot beyond "heheheh, Poe is COOL!!"
