This is a poem I wrote at the very beginning of the month, and I decided to share it with all of y'all...it's pretty short... ...oh and it has no title... her cold dimes hit my hand with silent clangs and she smiles sweetly, syrup oozing from her teeth nostrils flaring, she says "thank you, have a nice day" as I sit here, wishing that each dime was mine, as I stand here, wishing that I had a winter coat as nice as hers instead of wearing the tattered jacket that sits on my chair but then I smile, knowing, secretly, that what I have she will never have because I know how to live with only five cold dimes softly clanging in my hand and a tattered jacket which seems to be warm enough against the wind which slaps me across the face. written (c) 12.1.97 by Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos We should be very greatful to have a kartalst@hugse1.harvard.edu limited body...like mine or like The Greek Poet Chyck yours. She RULES!!) Smash Mouth: Fush Yu Mang (Excellent. Energetic, well-played. Love the vocalist.) I haven't read any cool books this year except A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell (but I hated it; Melanie RULES, Scarlett sucks), Letters from the Inside by John Marsden (it's sixth grade reading level but pretty damn cool), and The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans, which was corny and demented. So I'm not gonna put anything here really. Most of those I'd read before anyway. best movies of 1997... Scream (duh) Gattaca (this was COOL!!) Jaws (will reign forever as the king of kick-ass movies) Soylent Green (actually from the 70's, but it rules!!) best happenings of 1997... getting into the high school and finally figuring it out having my friends all get boyfriends so i could realize i could stand alone meeting real friends- the trash talkers and the angry psychos, and my freaky group- rochelle and edna, marie and marie, janet and michelle, too many to mention.. I love you all. meeting the love of my life (a horse) and getting to take part in her training, watching her go from a spooky filly to a sweet, gentle mare. I love you, Lady!!! learning to let go going to high school and realizing that i CAN meet new people and i CAN get along without Kate and Molly. starting Everything Garbage and watching it prosper to heights i could never have imagined when i first signed onto geocities having the first boyfriend i actually cared about, and learning when to lose him, and realizing it was ok volunteering at the hippotherapy (therapeutic horseback riding) center nearby, and meeting andrew, a six year old boy with down's syndrome, and learning to love him hopes for 1998... to keep on with everything garbage, the trash talkers and the angry psychos. I hope I can finish "junkie for poe," my upcoming poe site, and make my other sites as beautiful as i possibly can. to continue working at the hippotherapy center. i hope andrew learns to control the horse by himself soon. i hope one day he can ride all by himself, just like a person without down's syndrome could to make more friends and to get a boyfriend who actually cares about me exactly the way i care about him, or in some compatible compromise to learn to jump higher fences (preferably on Lady) to get better grades so I can get to a decent college to get MUCH better at the guitar to keep my band together so we can eventually learn to make some good songs to learn to like myself a lot better than i do currently. So that's my list. Whatever. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Joyous Kwanzaa, have a kick-ass New Year. Hail the Scoochie-Wah!
