I've been on the list for a couple of weeks, and I figured now was a good time for the 'formal introduction'. My name's Bill, I'm 26 and a single dad in Minneapolis, MN. I've always liked Poe's music (at least what I'd heard), of course without a clue of who Poe actually was (I know, typical, apologies to the 'true' fans and Poe herself, I have seen the error of my ways and actually listen to entire CDs now!) I actually wandered here from a site dedicated to the only other artist I'm as 'fascinated' with as Poe, Leah Andreone (different style, but a simlar sincerity and depth), and was instantly impressed with all the amazing psychos on here! :) I listen to a variety of music and musical styles, current favorites including Poe and Leah, Collective Soul, Ani, Sarah Maclachlan, Bush, Matchbox 20 (that's what's in my cd-changer in the car) :) And bits of everything from the 'Phantom' soundtrack to They Might Be Giants. Well, that's my brief 'about me' tidbit! Nice meeting everyone, and maybe I'll see a couple at the next Poe show in my area! - -Bill ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Dec 1997 12:44:39 -0800 (PST) From: Jonathan Olsson Subject: Re: New Psycho Introduction leah andrreone rocks ! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Dec 1997 22:15:54 +0200 From: "Roberto Corsini" Subject: Introduction: Me. Well now.. today was a good day for me. Even the fact that I missed two psychology classes doesn't bother me a bit, since if I hadn't missed them, I never would have gotten the address www.poe.org in my hands. :) [those who don't like bore stories, skip this section..] Before I tell you people a bit about myself, I want to explain how I desided to join this mailing-list etc.. today was an exeptional day at school since out music teacher had some business to do we didn't have our two morning music classes and so we got to goto school at 10AM. Well.. I woke up at 9AM but was kinda tired or something and fell asleep again.. woke up about 9:55AM. So I missed my first psychology class and I cycled upto the librarys magazine section to read something for the hour and then goto the second class, since the library is close to my school. I started reading Computer Life, November 1997.. got to page 61 and there was an interview of Poe. Didn't know anything about her before I started reading, but the web address etc. got me interested. Well I spent a whole lot of time reading stuff there and eventually missed the second class. After school I did some normal routines and then came up and took out my notes from the library and www.poe.org was the first one there.. so I connected and was amazed on the beauty of the pages. I'm not saying I'm an expert on web pages, but I have been around these things for quite a while and know good material when I see some. Well I was most interested in the style of music Poe does and tried the chat channel but it wasn't that busy when it was like 9AM there in the US. :) Eventually I found the samples of music from the pages.. first I downloaded Trigger Happy Jack and it knocked me out.. not straight the kind of music I like, but when I listened it a couple times, it allways became better and better. So I desided oh what the hell(pardon for the language) and started downloading That Day.. didn't get the full sample 'cause of my ISP got stuck, but I got 67% of it and it was enuff, I knew this was TRUE music. So I read a bunch of text on www.poe.org and joined this list. Hope you don't mind. [let's start the "official" introductionary..] I am Roberto Corsini a 17 year old student from FINLAND, yes Finland. Way back here in Europe. I first hear Poe's music from www.poe.org samples and that was enuff for me to get hooked. Unfortunantely that happened umm.. 6h ago so I really hadn't had the time to even search for Hello from any stores, not that I would have any hope of finding it here. I have no strickt way of music I listen to, basically anything that sounds good to me.. I haven't determined any points that a song has to have for me to like it.. all about the current emotions anyway. Well here is a short list of bands I tend to listen, but notice these are only the bands which I have a CD from or a casette: Nine Inch Nails, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Iron Maiden, Meredith Brooks, Helloween.. and I have the Michael Jacksons HIStory, but I have to be in the mood to listen to that one. Not that it would be bad music or anything. Oh and of course Broadcast.. about all the bands that I listen to these days are listed there. I probably would have a bunch of more records if I could afford to buy more.. tho I have desided that collection WILL have Poe's Hello in it. Umm.. what else.. oh yeah.. don't look at my homepages, they are old and outdated.. I'm gonna start building new ones in a bit after I finish this message. Apologies to all because my english isn't that good in writing and I tend to spell out awful sentenses or leave letters out of words etc. I'm basically, or I try to be, an objective kinda guy. Btw. my name is italian, not finnish, since my father is an italian. Yours, Roberto Corsini P.S. Please ask any questions etc, even if I'm pretty busy this week I'll try to answer as quickly as possible. Wow, we're totally internationally famous ::D If you find Poe out there, let me know, cause I do the discography...(another post on that coming in a minute) As to what Poe's music sounds like...it's kind of a tough question, because she doesn't have one particualr kind of sound; all of her songs on _Hello_ are different, and she has a different sound in concert. I live in sunny San Rafael, California, about ten minutes from San Francisco, ten from Berkeley. I first heard Poe long ago, and I bought the album. I heard Trigger Happy Jack on the radio. I have seen her in concert twice, once at the Fillmore in San Fancisco, and again at Live 105's Listener Appreciation Concert, where I met her and had a fairly interesting conversation, followed by her giving me her autograph. I'm 18 years old. I love every kind of music, except country and rap, which I despise. I like too many artists and bands to put them all here, but my favorite bands are Smashing Pumpkins and Sublime. I love ska and punk, like NOFX, Blink-182, Save Ferris, Reel Big Fish, and some others. I also love jazz, blues and funk, like Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, the New Jersey Kings, Macio Parker, Jame Brown, P-funk, Buddy Guy and B.B.King. I also love classical, like Gustav Holst. I also love electronica, like Crystal Method, the Propellor Heads, and Orbital. I play guitar, and I have my own crappy ska band. We're called Laughing Yak. Jimi Hendrix is God. The coverage will start on US Thanksgiving, Nov 27th and will go on until Christmas. It will feature Jeffrey Osborne and Modern Records, promoting the album as a buy for the public for Christmas. Randy Jackson, President of Modern Records, says; ``We believe this is a major marketing breakthrough for Modern Records and the Osborne album and it increases the sales potential for the album tremendously''. CNN has covered albums previously. In fact, one of the most successful Classical albums in the world right now ``Romanza'' by Andrea Bocelli is covered under the CNN network. This coverage has helped to increase the sales of the album significantly. The Board of Directors has also reviewed the catalogue of Modern Records and has started the preparation for a box CD Greatest Hits with Stevie Nicks who is currently on a successful North American tour with Fleetwood Mac. Although the artist Poe has also been reviewed, due to the deficit from the sales of her first album being accrued to future albums, in a mutual agreement between both the Company and Poe the artist is no longer on the label. Evaluation of other artists and albums on the label such as Natalie Cole and Boy on a Dolphin is being reviewed and decisions on any releases with these assets will be announced as soon they have been made. Poe: I've signed a five-album deal with Atlantic that wouldn't allow me to just publish independently on the Internet.
