I appreciated everyones input. I will now post the results as well as alleviate some misconceptions. Results: I got 37 replies. 17 thought they have the right to refuse 8 thought they did not have the right to refuse 6 thought police need probable cause 6 did not give a decent reply which I took to mean they really didn't know. Misconceptions: The police do not need Probable Cause to search your vehicle. Only a reasonable suspicion that they can articulate later in court. If the police have an articuable reasonable suspicion they do not need a warrant to search your vehicle. The Supreme Court has held that due to the inherent mobility of the vehocle no warrant is necessary, but there must be some reasonable suspicion. (For those who do not know, reasonable suspicion is a lower standard than probable cause but is more than a simple hunch.) Once again, thank you all for the responses. And I am once again sorry to post non-list stuff. If anyone has any questions about this (or most legal issues) feel free to ask me privately. The web version of the "POE "Angry Psychos" Mailing List Netiquette and New Member Guide" is now up and running. It (and possible soon to be text version) is the first stage of a project intended to replace the present "Welcome to POE" file that comes to each new subscriber. It is hoped that every member (new and veteran) either check out this page and/or the text version when it is revealed. The URL (Uniform Resource Locator....Web address) is: http://home.dti.net/aamato/aplist.html Feel free to set up a link from your webpage. There is helpful information here for anyone who has joined any of the two versions of this list in the last few months. It is here to get you up to speed with the basics of the list quickly, so that you can "fit in" sooner, make friends quicker and have the fun many of us enjoy with this list. There is also a lot of helpful information for the most seasoned of list veterans. Included on this page is: 1) POE (Angry Psychos) Mailing List Do's and Don'ts 2) common POE Mailing List acronyms 3) Names And Things You Should Know (a Who's Who and a What's What) 4) Explanations of the two versions of the list and how to subscribe to them 5) Majordomo School - the software that actually manages this list can be used to EASILY obtain a lot of information, such as: a] find a list members e-mail address (instead of posting to the list for it) b] getting a complete listing of EVERYONE on any or both versions of the list c] getting a listing of all AOL list members....list members who go to a certain university....list members in Canada etc (based on similarities in e-mail addy) d] obtain back issues of angry-psychos-digest (1997 only) e] obtain the majordomo help file f] obtain a new copy of "Welcome To POE" PLEASE CHECK OUT THE MAJORDOMO SCHOOL :) As you check out this and the subsequent pages, please feel free to e-mail me with anything you feel that should be included. Please keep in mind though, that this first page is not a full fledged POE FAQ or POE history, it's true definition is it's title "POE "Angry Psychos" Mailing List Netiquette and New Member Guide" You fellow list-owner & AP, Take care, Amato | Anthony Amato / amato@dti.net / amato@poe.org / | Angry Pyschos -- The Poe Mailing List | The POE "Angry Psychos" Mailing List Netiquette & New Member Guide is at: http://home.dti.net/aamato/aplist.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Nov 1997 19:06:01 -0500 From: Bill Hopkins Subject: Leaving, but resubscribing....
