Gratuitous worthless post! PR, but feel free to delete! Whoo-ha! I've got the original Junkie! I've got the horny version! After months of wondering if it was really 3:04 like it said on the booklet or whether the -0:02 that came before Fly Away didn't count, checking and rechecking and checking again and always coming up with Modern/Atlantic, not just Modern, definitely hearing horns but thinking, they're not like really obviously hey look at us we're horns and we're in this song, I finally know! And the best part is I like the horny version better, so there's no downside whatsoever! And it's still my favorite Poe song (well, maybe Padre Fear)! And I've just finished a ten-page paper on Plato, and it's only 3:15! Life is great! Okay, but now there's still a question, because as I recall, Shelly's file has the horns, but also the wa-wa-wa-waaa guitar or whatever it is. What's up with that? Twalen Fleety MonkeyMan "Is Poe in denial?"--my roommate Farley, hearing Junkie for the first time ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 09:52:22 -0500 (CDT) From: "Lawrence J. Kim" Subject: Lounge-A-Palooza I purchased my CD just after midnight and popped into my car's CD player. "A Rose is a Rose" is somewhat similar to what we have heard live. The first four lines of the lyrics are done under the impression that this song is actually from the 20s (sounds of 'static' from the vinyl record). Then there is a pause, then "I was laughing with Picasso..." comes in clear and with Cameron on the cello (maybe it's the bass...I dunno) The only instrument which prevents this song from being a 20s Swing song is Daris' guitar in the background. It's not very lounge-y, IMO, but it's still a great song. Unfortunately, Jones and Toby are not on this album. And Daris' name is actually spelled "Doris" in the CD-booklet. Shoot the type-setter. Besides that, Ben Folds Five's rendition of "She Don't Use Jelly" is excellent; as is Pizzicato Five's "Girl from Ipanema". However, Steve and Eydie (I do believe they were featured in "Swingers"?) take the cake with their oh-so-lounge-y "Black Hole Sun". The other unfortunate event last night was that the store didn't have the maxi-single for "Hello". So goes life.... Ha ha ha Ahem. After calculus class was mercifully cut back by 10 minutes, I got to Tower and headed straight for the cd singles. I held my breath, since the opinion I had received on the cd art wasn't favorable...it's the same art as the original "Hello" single, except you can see more leaves and stuff on the front...it's also a tad darker on the back...oh well. In the corner it says #1 Billboard Club Hit. Way to go!!! And since it isn't a sticker, people will always remember that. ::) What I find interesting is that the packaging itself is kinda backwards--usually when I see maxi-singles they'll be pacakged in the box like the first "Hello" single was, and the regular single will be in a jewel case...here it's flip-flopped... Enough about the packaging. Track list: LP Mix E-Smoove Funk Mix Modern Mix Nevin's Electronica Mix Generator Mix Edge Factor Mix Tribal Dub That's different from the 12" remixes. The vinyl has 3 more mixes...also the times are apparently different... Now Lounge-A-Palooza...after getting 5 store employees on a wild goosechase through the lounge compilations, the rock music, and the just-got-here-today releases, they finally found the cassette, then the cd...so if you're telling them what kind of music, say lounge music by rock artists, that just came out, and they'll find it..."A Rose Is A Rose" is a great track...as I always say, I'm a sucker for horns...Poe rules...she laughs...I'm snapping along right now...someone come in here and swing with me or somethin...and yep, it's nice and comfy between the "She Don't Use Jelly" and the "Black Hole Sun" covers... The last thing about my pilgrimage to Tower Records: I was so excited that on the way back, I suddenly looked up from my walk and realized that I had never been where I was then. I had passed by the Metro station by like 3 blocks. *D'OH* I wouldn't have minded the walk back if it weren't so hot, but at least my ears were happy. I think this'll tide me over for, mmm, a week or two, then don't worry, I'll be ranting over wanting a new album again. ;>>>> Oooh! I start my radio bit in a couple of weeks...I wonder if I get to play this...tasty... - --Michele Michele Santiago, shell@poe.org The Spirit of Serramonte Will Never Die! ;D members.aol.com/VR5SBloom/psychovixen.html by FTP and by the {{{{{Web}}}}} VR.5 Viewer's Guide, POE discography, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Live 105 Mailing list for Hibernia Beach Live! hbeach-list-request@eskimo.com Xander: "You've been studying for nearly twelve minutes."
