I've been lurking for a while. The first time I heard Poe was on the radio when they played Angry Johnny. The lyrics and the mood of the song was what really intrigued me. I first heard about the Angry Psychos from the Web magazine (July) that you guys are mentioned in. It's the one with Jewel on the cover, with a small picture of Poe too. Anyways, I think it's great that Poe communicates to you guys a lot! :) I saw the guestbook that she signed! Way cool! :) Stuff that I'm into also are Jewel (I'm an Everyday Angel), No Doubt, Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Bush, Alanis and some other people that would take too much space if I mentioned them all. :) Well, you guys rock! I look forward to all the good things to come from this list. :) Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. Dear Dan, Unfortunately, there's now a lot of wanna be 'lil nazis out there who think they should determine for the rest of us what we do and do not compose to the list. Carlos Casteneda called them "petty tyrants". Must be that they're so powerless in their own lives that deriding others for keepin' the community intact makes them feel powerful. BTW, I agree with you. In Poe's absence (in the studio), I think it marvelous that the APs keep talking, even when it's NPR. But there are too many people with brooms up their b***s--must mean they aren't getting any. I'm also interested to know what people think and, while I use private e-mail in most of my own responses, I appreciate the lengthy conversations that sometimes transpire, and I value learning about my fellow Psychos. Don't worry--I'm dousing myself with flame-retardant now, because I'm copying this message to the list. I'm reacting more, I think, to the general tone of the list lately, when so many people actively participating are being trashed for the content of what they write, especially when what they're writing isn't offensive, e.g. racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise-bigoted. And I do think people are interested in the music poll. Clearly, music binds people (why else is there an AP list?). When I conducted a similar poll many moons ago, the response was overwhelming, and I spent many, many hours tabulating the results, far more than I should have. I even constructed a complex ranking process. When I finally posted the results, approximately 50 APs wrote back either thanking me or pointing out errors. But for you to suggest that those who post NPR messages aren't Poe fans is troubling. Instead, why not be glad that we're so cohesive a community that we continue "talking" in Poe's own absense? We have the opportunity to remain something not only viable, but impactual (is "impactual" a word?). We should be grateful, in my opinion, for the AP community, and accept that whatever dialogue transpires is the glue which keeps us connected. Padma _______________________________________________________________________________ The only thing I really had a problem with was you calling people on this list Nazi's for people such as Amato and Sabreenah speaking up. I think their main point was people continuing to send public replies fot that favorite song thing, when its really only intended for one person. I think I just began getting sick of all the flames to people for not conforming--for slighting protocol--while I honestly believe that in Poe's absence (in the studio) we should be grateful to see so much activity. Dear Cocky, Then let me add my public, heartfelt apology to Anthony Amato. I should not have singled out he and Sahbreenah when my real contention was simply that while Poe's in the studio, we should be glad to see so much activity. In my mind, we will simply become much stronger in the long run if we don't keep wagging our fingers at people for violations of mere protocol. Obviously, I'd be kicked out of the military! Padma _______________________________________________________________________________ The only other thing i would suggest is that Amato is the owner of the list, and as a guest of his here we are obligated to follow the rules that he sets down. He has been involved with other lists, in an administrative role, and has seen the demise when people get too many "useless" e-mails. I like the feeling of family here, and as we all know families have there share of arguments and power struggles. What many don't take into consideration is that for many of us the main reason why we are here is to keep in contact with those people that we have met and celebrated with. Most of these people have been here since the beginning and have seen the surveys and intros, so to many of us its old hat and we become a little disenchanted with the whole process. So my point is, each of us has an idea of what this list should be, what the list is is the collective ideas of each of us. I view posting like talking at a big dinner with all your family, everyone gets there chance to talk but the ones listened too are the people who have actually have something to say. If everyone put in there 2 cents we would all be millionaires. Cocky(r) (the digit charmer) PadmaT wrote: > Dear Jason, > > If that's really your point, then I apologize.
