I wanna start by saying I like the unstructured nature of this list, in general. Mainly because at times there really isn't anything Poe related to talk about. Besides its not like this is a high volume list or anything, the most messages I have ever gotten on this list (and I have been here for awhile) was 80 in a day, though I would say the average has been more like 30, there have even been several occasions that I have only gotten 5 to ten. My point is that I spend all of 5 to ,at most, 20 minutes of my ever so valuable time dealing with the email from this list. In other words since it takes longer for most people to take a frigin' shower, what's the big fat hairy deal??? It seems like alot of people on this list just like to complain. I could understand the NPR complaints if this list generated 300 or 400 posts a day, and most of those were just fluff that wasted a few hours of your time, but we're talkin' 20 minutes, at most, here. i.e. alot of people really, really need to lighten up. One final note. While I don't mind the NPR stuff, I do strongly believe that out of respect for people who are purists and just want Poe stuff that the NPR should always be used in the subject. That way people who just want Poe info, and maybe don't check their mail every day can get past the NPR stuff quickly and easily... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Aug 1997 02:21:11 -0400 (EDT) From: VR5SBloom@aol.com Subject: Re: POE and Hanson From: Flickergrl@aol.com >in the new SPIN article (with prodigy on the cover) there's this ad about >Hanson in it, and it says > >"At a moment when MTV is lade with impenetrable techno bands, >eighth-generation grunge, and a slew of female singer/songwriters who long >for the songcraft of POE, Hanson's MMMBop may be laying down the template >for pop music in the '90s" heehee. They cast two good-looking young stars (Hawke and Paltrow), placed the action in a modern city (New York), dressed Paltrow in designer clothes (Donna Karan), changed the hero's name from Pip to Finn (Hawke's quirky suggestion), put Bancroft--formerly Mrs. Robinson--in the Miss Havisham role, and added music by Chris Cornell, Pulp, and Tori Amos. "Basically it's a huge romance," Cuar=F3n says of the $40 million film. In the book, "Pip goes to the city to become a gentleman. In our film, he goes to establish himself as an artist." Straight out of Dickens, however, are the leading man's feelings for Estella; but Fox executives initially balked at casting Paltrow. "The studio didn't really know who she was," says producer Art Linson. "She hadn't even come out with Emma yet." PC's do NOT have a build in infrastruture for networking, which has been standard on the Macintosh for many years (AppleTalk). Over 50% of the web pages you surf and over 50% of the print ads you read in newspapers and magazines are created on a Macintosh, therefore it could almost be said "Macs Rule the Net". > I'll take a command line any day > over a frekkin inefficient GUI. I could see people that had posted before his letter was written and the mail just got delayed, but the people who are still going on about non important shit have no excuse for continuing. I will be the first to admit that I have posted NPR stuff in the past, but I try to keep it all music industry related. I feel that things pertaining to other groups in modern music are important in showing Poe's place in the industry. At other times I have poked fun at the list's ramblings, including my own, and even that was stretching it, but it was AP related and it helped lighten up the tense atmosphere, so I feel that it was forgivable. I don't care if you like or don't like to mosh. I don't care if you like Winnie the Pooh. I don't care if you want to eat meat or not. I really don't give a damn what anyone's sexual preferences are. If you are using a Mac, a PC, or even a Commodore 64 with a cassette drive and a 2400 baud modem, I don't care! As long as you like to use it, then fine. I am not going to single out names, for that is immature and uncalled for, but the people that do this will know who I am talking about: Do not respond to anything on the AP list (be it Poe related or not) just to see your own damn writing in print. There are a couple of people that feel that it is their civic duty to respond to everything that anyone says. I enjoyed the few weeks when I was only getting about 3 or 4 AP emails a day. Suspiciously enough, one of the above mentioned people was gone during that time. If you need attention that badly, go to the chat room at Poe.org and interact with people in real time, or even use an IRC chat room, but don't use the AP list as the outlet for your problems. For the people that feel they have to be tough and defend their right to post bullshit and flame me, by all means do so- but use my private email address for that. There is a reason why I put it at the end of all my letters. I hope everyone takes the time to read this and actually sit down and think about it. Live in the present, any modern operating >system needs to be EASY to use. Archaic command line commands are no >longer necessary. Just because *you* are familiar with command line >OS's and are able to use them doesn't mean everyone is or should be. GUI's waste time. Did you know that it takes you 10 times longer to move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse, and back, then to just use a sequence of command keys to do something like a spell check? I'm not pushing my OS on anybody else. I'd putting down somebody else's OS. The reason Mac's have one mouse button is because two buttons are too complex for your puny brains to contemplate. Um, Lynsey dear I think you're talking about me. I didn't take it seriously. I don't believe in taking things seriously. It's against my religion. But if religion is gum, then I guess that I can't walk and take things seriously at the same time. Or soemthingl. Whatever. Getting lost in a metaohor again. Neat. Gateways suck. By bye. Flame me if you will, but I like the pretty fire. If you don't watch out, Dave will eat you. Well kids, it looks like it's time to grab your mac and run for the hills! Guess what! When Rhapsody is released, those cute little NeXT (not "Next", "NeXT") machines are exactly what your mac is going to look like! It's called UNIX. It's also called your worst nightmare. And yes, NeXT was the brainchild of Steve Jobs, not, ex-owner, but ex-founder of Apple Computers. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 00:36:00 -0400 (EDT) From: Risabean1@aol.com Subject: elvis >> Where is Jimmy Hoffa ? ? >who is Jimmy Hoffa? >Good question, where is Jimmy Hoffa?
