Hi psychos ! I was looking through the new issue of Rolling Stone and when I got to the "recordings" area where they review new releases and found a small article on an artist called Jen Trynin . (Anyone ever heard any of her tunes ? let me know if so ... I am curious ...) According to the article this is her second release . What got my attention right away was the title of the cd. It's called 'Gun Shy Trigger Happy. ' As soon as I saw it I thought - "well that's about a POE rip-off if I ever heard one ..." It just strikes me as a huge co-incidence that she uses 'trigger happy' and also the gun thing is reminiscent of the 'drive by' idea (in MY warped brain at least.) One of the songs is titled "Getaway". How one may ask ? If she mentions flying away then...-okay so I don't want to knock Jen (certainly not without hearing the tracks first)-BUT if she sounds like POE on the cd , I may just have to tempted to say she is in need of a few NEW ideas . Well they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery . I wonder if Poe would be flattered by this cd ... I thought it was kind of a co-incidence but .....hey if you get an audience people WILL copy you (sad isn't it?) just spoutin' that one psycho ward dude (yeah , me ...) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Aug 1997 18:08:47 -0700 From: silverphish@juno.com (Casey T Hansen) Subject: POE in the world Is POE like a one hit wonder, I mean I'm totally into her and I know everyone else is, but like, she dosen't make like the biggest splash outside of us, if this trend continues, will Atlantic like drop her? Because that would totally suck! I know you guys said this a LOOONG time ago but I don't remember. We don't have any video game systems except for someone's Gameboy, which I know is not the one, and I was wondering, does it come out on CD-ROM too? That we have, and I figure it should run very nicely on a 12X CD-ROM drive. Hello, THJ, and AJ. Then they stopped. But mysteriously enough, I have heard Angry Johnny the past TWO DAYS in a row on this same station. I emailed the asst program director to tell him to keep up the good work, and *hopefully* the trend will continue. They also play Angry Johnny every once in a while on another radio station here too, which I have also called to thank (the DJ replied "oh yeah, we love Poe!"). I would encourage everyone to request Poe on the radio. Even if they dont play it right off, most stations keep a request log and tally the number of requests they get for each artist. Also, maybe it helps to call radio stations and THANK them when they do play Poe. I don't think they get many thank-you's. emily "resident cheerleader" PS, Robby called me from boyscout camp today and is doing well. Incidentally, he hasn't picked up any hot chicks there. ; ) ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V2 #261 ***********************************
