The guy obviously didn't use the word to bash gay people, fags, homosexuals, lesbians, or whatever the hell else you want to call them or they want to be called. Geez, have we lost our minds? Are we so hypersensitive to every little thing, that if someone uses a WORD we have to jump to defend any and every little special interest group that might decide to be offended that day? It's like the whole FDR/wheelchair 'contoversy'. They make a group of sculptures of the guy and put them on display. All of a sudden the disability movement is all up in arms because the sculptor didn't focus on the fact that FDR was in a wheel chair. I mean, how dare they not emblazon every sculpture with a wheel chair? I guess it's just another example of scorning those with disabilities, right? No! FDR did not want to be shown in that light... in fact he took great pains to cover up his disability. He did not want it to be an issue, and wanted to be known as a fully capable person, which he was. Yet, these people have the nerve to try and impose their will against his. He plainly would not want his disability trumpeted about like they wanted it to be. They are so concerned about their 'rights' and their agenda, that they could care less about his and his family's rights. But that's just typical these days, I suppose. And don't even try to accuse me of gay bashing, because that's not even my point. I respect all people, whatever they do or don't do behind closed doors. It's not my place to judge anybody, so I don't. My point is that PC has gone way too far. It's a queer (strange!) world nowadays. Don't flame me for the word "freak" or the word "gangster" as a generalization. I am not sterotyping anyone, I do not think everyone in these catagories speak this way. This is my opinion and my question to a mature and responsive audience I feel that I can get some good feed back on. Thank you. I wonder why this entire "gay" "nigger" thing came up? I personally don't even think about useing the "n" word, in fact it was hard for me to write it. Do you think that people have been naturalized and desensitized to repulsive (I think) and "politically incorrect" words. You know, I don't even like the words "politically incorrect." SO I take that back. Replace PIncorrect with Hurtfull and distaste ful word. Same with the word bitch. Gangsters "my beotch" Freaks "Stupid bitch" etc. Before it was "what a mean person." I was watching a old movie and instead of saying " Get that fucking plane away from my boat" he said get that filthy plane away. Sounds good to me doesn't it to you? God, somewhere along the way it became correct to say you stupid bitch to someone in a joking way. You know how much it hurts when you realize what they are calling you? an unintelligent, female dog. Ouch. you Know what hurts more? When you realize that they are just saying it for the effect, they don't know what it means. They don't realize what a bitch or an asshole is, they just call people that because it is a mean hurtfull name to call someone when they are pissed. Do you seriously think that you think about what you call some one? If you call someone an asshole, you are calling him an anal sphincster. Whats uP with that? When did calling someone a jerk pass over? Why did it pass over? I'm asking a question that can't really be answered. People grew and revolted and felt the suppresion and blossomed into something else. Maybe it's shock factor? i'm not mentaly insane....Just confused. A hand in a dark cave trying to find something besides cold hard rock. I'll get to the main question. ~~*~~ Do you think that people have been naturalized and desensitized into speaking words of hurt and distaste?~~*~~ Punk~Bitch JEss Don't push me cause I'm close to the edge I'm tryin no to lose my head ha ha ha It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from goin under - ---Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 1997 17:03:17 PDT From: "garrett vice" Subject: npr*huge hug* I just think everyone needed that!!!! Webster's definition for music seems to be made as vague as possible in order to leave nothing out, but I think it gives us an important clue. Notice that the third difinition of music contains the words "pleasing sounds." Okay, we see that music must be audible and "pleasing." I think that the word "pleasing" totally redefines music in its own definition. Pleasure is all relative based on the individual, so music must also be relative. What is music to one may not be considered music to another. I find this to be very true when discussing the topic with different poeple. Some people do not even consider techno or rap a type of music. I believe that everyone must make their own definition of music, so here is mine. Music: sound, produced by man or nature, that is listened to by ANYBODY for pleasure. My definition is easily torn apart by even myself. In Mr. Holland's Opus, the deaf children were able to SEE the music in the colorful arrays of light that represented it. Was this not music too? The deaf people that I know turn their stereo up extremely loud in order to FEEL the bass vibrations. Is this not a part of music too? I try to be very open minded about music. I listen to just about all types of music and love all of it very much. I love country, metal, techno, blues, classical, opera, death metal, rap, old country, rock, oldies..... Every type of music is liked by SOMEBODY in the world, so I do not think that it is very polite to bash it. What even gives us the right to catagorize music in the way we do? I cannot say that I like or dislike "alternative" because I have mixed feelings based on the different bands so piously thrown into the different categories. Although I do not care for most of the music of the groups that are labeled "alternative," I love Poe's music and quite a few other "alternative" groups. Some music makes me laugh. Some music makes me smile. Some music seriously makes me cry. Some music makes me dance. Music is a small speck of warmth in my cold-black heart. I fully understand that this response is totally useless. I in no way expect those who form prejudicial additudes towards groups or types of music to alter their attitude in any way. I do expect a fair amount of flac and "you are stupid" remarks, but this is totally normal when presenting such opinions to a general group. The sole reason I wrote this was to hopefully find others with the same opinion. I hate to admit, but I do not know many other "true music lovers." Before I send this, I would like to add one final paragraph as a response to Cocky's remark about country music. He said that is is "angry men music." I am a big country fan and listen to both old and new country all the time. I would like to point out that 90% of all NEW country songs are about women and love. No, they do not portray women as sex-objects or any anger toward them. Most country songs I hear are about being thankful for a mutual respect and love in a good relationship. This is portrayed from both sides. Women sing about being true to their men and how important they are to them. Men sing about being true to their women and how important they are to them. I firmly believe that country music is more about love and respect than anger. This is my message... I have rolled it up and stuck it in a bottle... And have thrown it out to sea... In the hopes that somebody will find it meaningful...
