I just got done watching Extreme Measures, with Hugh Grant and Gene Hackman... SOOOOO what'd everyone think of this movie? I thought it was cool, but it kept starting and stopping storylines. It started the moles, then he didn't care about them. IT showed that homeless person strapped to the bed, and it never followed up. They said he had been in a coma for five days, which meant having that machine hooked up to him for five days, but then later the bad dude person said he had it on for 24 hours... OOOOOOOOOOOK I'm done rambling, I reeeeeally like the movie, but it had a lot of loopholes. One other thing I had to say about SCREAM. This is one of my favorite movies. Not for the cast, how it was directed, or any of that, but for the plot. That is one hell of a good plot. Even if you hate gore and stuff, you have to give Kevin Williamson the credit he deserves for that twisted great plot. BUUUUT I wanted to say the loopholes I found, I just rented it 2 days ago (I saw it at theatre's, but just re-watched it on video). ONE: The part before the party, when Sidney is talking to Tatum, (also the part where the self reference "You're starting to sound like a Wes Carpenter or something" is) they show the killer in the background running through the woods, buuuuuuuuuuuut the killer is shown somewhere else in the next scene (I don't want to give details out, so everyone who saw the movie should know who I'm talking about). Everyone has been discussing the "Angry Women Rocker" thing, and it reminded me that I have an article on the subject that involves POE. Instead of quoting the article, I'll just type it out for you to read. "DON'T CALL THEM ANGRY WOMEN ROCKERS" Ever since Alanis Morissette's unapologetic debut album became a megahit, the music industry has tagged almost every young woman who shoulders an electric guitar and sings independent-minded lyrics as an angry female rocker. Time magazine proclaimed the "take no prisoners angry young women" todays "hottest rock archetype." But there's something you oughta know: Many "angry" women musicians aren't mad, or even miffed, and, they told Glamour, they think the label is ridiculous. "The way people talk about us, you'd think the moon aligned our cycles and we all have PMS all the time," says singer POE, who donned a T-shirt that read Happy Female Artist during her concerts last fall. Patti Rothberg got so sick of being called angry by music writers that she started claiming, tongue in cheek, that she had a disease called T.F.S.-Tortured Female Syndrome. What women singers want, it seems, is the freedom guy rockers have-to be angry and happy and complicated. Men make angry music and it's called rock and roll; women include anger in their vocabulary and suddenly they're angry and militant," says acoustic rocker Ani DiFranco, who thinks she's one of the most easygoing musicians she knows. Notes folk singer Michelle Shocked: "Mens debut albums are not compared to each other simply because the musicians have the same gentitals." -Caroline Hwang To the right of the article, it has a picture of POE with a T-shirt that reads "Happy Well Adjusted Female Artist." I don't know what magazine it's from because I'm not the one who found it. One of my friends found it, and ripped out the article for me. I knowwhat these words mean, I don't need you guys to help me figure them out. But that is not what people use those words for today, when a person says "queer" or "gay" chances are, he is not referring to the fact he's different or happy, he is saying this guy is stupid, I don't like him. Fact is that some of the funnest people i know to go to the bars with are lesbians... Why? Cause we have the same likes and straight women love to talk to them. Its kinda weird, its like straight women want to know if their attractive to the same sex. Its kinda like flattery.... So when we talk to women its like we have all the bases covered, plus they like to talk about my favorite sexual act.... anyway, this is one staight white male that likes the fact that "homosexuals" are gaining more acceptance in pop culture... I understand that. I just don't think it should be practiced. If you don't want to be called something, don't call yourself that. By casually calling other people of your sexual preference group/race/religion whatever by a derogatory term, you are telling people ignorant to the situation that it is okay to call that group by that name. I think that is stupid. I know that it all depends on the context but some people get upset just by the sound of whatever the word is. Like the O.J. trial ("So and So said the N-word"). That's why I respect people like Scott Thompson, or John Leguizamo (One of his shows was called "Spick-O-Rama"). They casually use the derogatory terms but understand if they are called by that. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 13:59:10 -0500 From: Greg Luhman Subject: IRC CHAT IS THE BEST Hey all Get on the IRC and find a poe chat room. Just because it has another meaning doesn't mean someone who used it correct should be attacked. BUT there's a good chance he meant it in the other form, and then yeah you should say something. Just because a word has another meaning doesn't mean it should never be used again. My baby sister has a big bird video where he uses the word queer. Yeah, I do agree with your post, but you don't know how he meant it. - -Landon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 15:38:11 -0500 (EST) From: Padre Fear Subject: Re: FOR EVERYONE who thinks he had the right to use that term Right on Jezebel!!!
