Why are all you dogging the Spice Girls? Has pop music taken such an elevated status in life that it is to be judged by a different set of standards, or are you all hippocrites? First off, I read someone say "slick packaging" etc refering to the Spice Girls. Does anyone really think that music is the only thing that has slick packaging? Lexus? Infiniti? Gold Foil on cassete tapes, Xtreme Baseball cards...our whole culture is innundated (sp?) with things that have slick packaging. Some have content, some do not. And WITHOUT FAIL we all GLADLY partake in this. It's called "living in a capatilaistic society." Notice, I'm not excluding myself here, and I'm not even going so far as to say that this is bad. It just seems a bit odd to single out pop music for lack of content when our whole culutre is practically based on it. And if you think you're exempt, fat chance...if you're reading this on a computer, you're part of the cycle. Again, not that any of this is bad (well, it may be bad, but can you think of a better way?) it just seems you people should just state your opinions as just that: opinions on a subjective matter (quality of music) instead as an analogy for today's world. As far as music goes, I'm indifferent to the Spice Girls. Their music isn't bad, it isn't good. It might be interesting to note, however, that their music, on occasion, get's more musically "interesting" (read complex) than some of Poe's. Just food for thought. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jul 1997 18:38:06 -0700 From: Clint Doyle Subject: Re: A gift to our friends from Over seas! Look at her... she looks like some 30 some year old, good looking woman. I personally think she's a record company manufactured artist. Dress her up in a plain old dress with some boots, give her a goofy looking guitar, and give the video some sort of 'alterna-vibe'. With her looks and their marketing, I'm sure they figured she'd be a success. Plus, give her a song like Bitch and people'll buy the song just for the title. I can't stand her. Maybe I'm wrong about her, but somehow I don't think so. Just food for thought. I agree with you on some parts. Those who reject the endless cycle of capitilism are in fact, in it themselves. By fighting against it, they accomplish nothing because capitilism, as it is based on chaos, intermeshed itself with every single denizen within it from the moment it came into being. In order to end it the people subscribing to capitilism would need to hunanimously agree to end it, or have the military involved, which many countries have done unsuccessfully in the past. So don't complain to people complaining about the state of the U.S.A. who are hypocritical as they are "contributing" to it, for a Democratic government relies on the people, and the people like capitalism. The people do not hunanimously give up capitalism, so it stays. Final word: Let those who wish to complain about capitalism if they want to, even though they can't do anything about it. I, as one of them, do not complain because I knew the entire world was screwed up anyways and so I just live a sort of Epicurian bon vivant life. Okay, enough with that. I don't want this place to become a political forum. I agree with you about the Spice Girls. Their music is nothing special but it is not bad, like some British punks I know who like to fill travel bags with sharp objects. Man, I am rambling!!! Somebody please shut me up! ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V2 #234 ***********************************
