I think that whoever chose her singles (Atlantic?) might have done her an injustice by not diversifying their choices. In my opinion, Hello, AJ, and THJ are not wholy representitive of the HELLO album and I fear that some radio-listeners might shrug her off as just another "angry chick singer". This, of course, is their own misfortune, but I know that alot of ppl dont take the time to really listen to lyrics, and as a consequence I dont think that they "get" Poe. In my opinion, Hello, AJ, and THJ are not wholy representitive of > the HELLO album and I fear that some radio-listeners might shrug her off as > just another "angry chick singer". but see, that's just it. Angry Chick Singers are what's "in" now, so Atlantic thinks that by releasing all her angry songs, she will become more popular. I mean look at Alanis Morrisette, Tracy Bonham, Leah Andreone, Meredith Brookes, Garbage (kind of), Liz Phair, sooooo many more. Every other woman is cashing into the angry chick fad, so Atlantic thinks that by (to an extent) "selling out" Poe, they can make her sell more. I mean selling out because she's definately deeper than a psycho bitch who sings "I wanna blow you... away" and talks about fathers as black holes who suck up the light. I've never heard anythin but the singles from Tracy, Leah, or Meredith, so I'm not claiming to be any expert on them, but I'm willing to bet that not all their songs are angry either, cus Alanis, Garbage, Liz's songs aren't, but their record companies are following the fad that Alanis (? this could be wrong, who started it?) started and pretending that the singer is like Alanis so all the angst-crazed teenagers will buy it and bang their heads into the walls and rend their clothing, or whatever it is record companies think teenagers do. I think that's horrible for the bands because if those angst-ridden teens buy the music and find it to be NOT all angry, their not going to listen to it, so it was a waste. However, if they released good, deep, meaningful (not saying that ThJ and AJ aren't meaningful...) songs, then the normal human beings who aren't all that impressed by the angry female trend will buy it, love it, and support the artist. Now, I hate almost all of the songs, because too much of a good thing is bad. Every one of you who say you hate Alanis, the biggest complaint is the "crappy songs played every five minutes". If tons of people started obsessing over poe overnight like with Alanis, would there still be this many AP's, or would the ap's be one big family or more like a ton of people crammed together thinking everyone is a stranger? Would the AP's get to do stuff with Poe? The radio's would dominate her songs, and we'd get sick of them. You can't say "I'll NEVER get sick of that!!!" cuz it's not true.
